Yeah, I knew the link on the site itself was down as well, shoulda mentioned that. Doesn't affect me since I have the deluxe version, but yeah.

Now the r4ids.cn team made, the same beta patch I downloaded earlier, the official 4.4.0-10 firmware patch. It has no mention of it not working on the Actel Pro Asic revision "8" and lower models of the R4i Gold 3DS. I e-mailed them for a response, asking if they know it doesn't work on Revision 8 and lower cards. I will report back what they respond.

You have been misunderstood by super card team.

As you know, r4ids.cn and two other cards have released 3DS 4.4.0-10 patch just several days later after dstwo.

that is because all teh cards that have recived updates are Class 2 cards

the supercard team are 100% accurate with what the problem is
the error in what they said is they did not know what % or the flashcard market is class 2 with the IC chips

Revisions 8 and bellow saddly do not have IC chips hence why they fail the check as even if the new header was updated it would still fail the 3DS IC chip check and fail to load

So... Since my r4 says FAIL while trying to do the update, I guess that means mine isn't one of the working ones?

Yeah.. can you confirm the revision number for us anyway? It would be a tiny number or letter printed in white just above the far right "tooth" of the contacts at the bottom. You can see what I'm talking about in the pictures a couple posts up.

just had a weird experience

the firmware on my gold plus seemingly corrupted, card would not read in the system at all until i popped it back into the usb burner with the 1.9 update again.

might keep that file handy... just in case.

Well, I ended up emailing the r4ids.cn team earlier today prior to knowing the exact working behind why the older revisions (< 9) don't work.
Their response?

"Please note: this patch is just for those of PCB digital number >8 (means 9,10, A,B,C), and we are still working on the old revisions (below "9" ...), will keep it updated on our website soon... "

Now, as far as I understand it, there's not much they can do to they older carts due to them (apparently) missing the IC chip.
But, hey, at least they're working on it, I guess?

EDIT: or they're just quoting what they have on the download page for the newest patch to haphazardly answer my question.
Still, could lead to good(?) things.

All flash carts have ICs. IC = "Integrated Controller", and an FPGA is one.

The whole "can't update because they lack an IC" is false.

According to some info I got from the r4ids.cn team while doing the review, the 3DS and older non-3DS models are different hardware, with the 3DS being a better design (not just a newer bootloader). Whether this is a class-1 and class-2 difference, I don't know, I've never touched one of the older models.

If somebody has a non-3DS model (and the sticker isn't the dead giveaway, my review sample lacked the sticker since it was from one of the first batches but is still the second-design hardware) and can do a little testing, it'd be appreciated.

yes, I saw it's very different.
But it's still on "highly possibly blocked" instead of "confirmed blocked".
It was just to get a definitive answer.

i just had a reply from a team

As we mentioned in early email, we are still working on the patch for those number below 9....It might take a while but will be released sooner or later, it's nothing to related to "unmodifiable IC" as some other team stated...
