Heya! Rather new to this boar and modding in general, but a good friend directed me here in case I needed any help.

Well, basically, I've successfully managed to get the HBC and BootMii/HackMii up and running. Now, I've already got a bunch of really neat Apps installed, but the main purpose of modding the Wii was so that I could play the games that I'd be leaving behind for my brother when I leave for College. So I looked up some ISO Launchers, and unfortunately the only one I could find was "Coverflow", which relied on some cISO file that had been uploaded on MegaUpload - meaning it was gone for good.

Now, the same person that directed me here also told me about WiiFlo. It seems like a stable and reputable App from what I've seen and read, but I can't seem to figure out the Installation. Their specific Wiki instructs Users as follows:

NOTE:With the lastest d2x cIOS intaller you can install IOS 236 too.

If you are using the installer, make sure to install all bases, starting with ios 245 and the lowest available base, working your way up to 251 base 58, using IOS236 to do the install.

In the first option you come in the intaller(cIOS Selection), it will choose automatically IOS 58 (AHBPROT) for you. If you don't have it , select IOS 236 and then on the following page where you actually install d2x, you select it like this:

version: d2x-v8-beta(r41)
base: 56
slot: 249

Press A and wait for it to complete, then Press A again to continue.

version: d2x-v8-beta(r41)
base: 57
slot: 250

After this Press B to exit.

Be sure to delete gameconfig1.ini and gameconfig2.ini in /wiiflow/settings, all WDM files /wiiflow/codes/wdm, and also your /wiiflow/cache/lists folder!

Note: These dol's are less tested than previous betas, but may very well be more stable than the most recent releases. The entire sound handling has been changed/rewritten and things seem to freeze up a lot less.

(Source.)

Marked in red are the portions I don't understand. In fact, I don't understand any of it, really - They're not telling me what to put on the SD, what to do with the thing on the Wii, nothing. I'd really appreciate it if someone could clear things up and perhaps give a better explanation of its installation.

Thanks in advance!

Sigh so I must be totally blond when it comes to this stuff. I am trying to figure out what I need to play gamecube iso's on the wii. I know dios mios is what I need but what is the latest version and is there anything else I need? Also where do i install dios mios and what ever I need to run the games? What format do the games have to be in and where do I store them on my usb?

What is the best injector tool nowadays? I wanted to inject fan-translated Majora's Mask rom into a .wad. My brother can't understand english very well and I wanted him to be able to play the game that has been fully translated to portuguese. I could use Wii64, but it has bugs and etc. It would be best if I could inject the rom into a .wad file.

Is this possible?

I've been away from wii hacking for a long long time so I'm still a newbie and I seem to be having some trouble with Hackmii (Bootmii).

I wanted to get back into testing the latest developments on the Wii scene so I thought I'd start out by checking my Wii brick protection. I have a launch day Wii with the homebrew channel already installed (installed years ago so I wasn't sure how I had installed bootmii) and I've been reading up on what I should have for the best brick protection.

From what I've read so far it appears the best protection is Bootmii from boot2. I also read that the way you find out if bootmii is installed on Boot2 is to look for 2 LED flashes on bootup. I only get one so I assume it's boot1 (IOS). The thing is, I think a very old preloader is also installed on this machine but I'm not sure (I'm also still on Wii system menu 3.2). I really have no idea what I have installed on this thing since it has been so long and I'm so far behind on the latest developments.

So I thought the best place to start is to try and get Bootmii on boot2 before I do anything. Except I can't seem to reinstall it. How do I go about doing that?

i downloaded the file here and extracted to root of an SD card:
http://bootmii.org/download/

Then I booted up the Wii with the SD card but I see nothing in the Homebrew channel. I pressed the wii home button and tried "launch bootmii" and all it did was go to a black screen with the LED constantly flashing as if I didn't have anything on the SD card. The SD card was definitely working because I had USBloader on it before I cleared the files to unzip Hackmii installer to it. What gives, what am I doing wrong?

Try creating a new folder within the apps folder named "Bootmii installer" and place boot.elf from the package in that folder. You might be able to run it from the HBC that way. I recommend you download Modmii and follow the instructions after that.

So I got the latest DIOS-MIOS and I've been trying to get games running off of my SD card. It's a 32 gig class10 card and I set it to FAT32 and set a 64KB cluster size.

I have tested 3 games so far that I have ripped through the latest CFG mod (as in, I'm no pirate) I used official memory cards and tried with the disc both in and out of the drive

Shadow the Hedgehog: Works fine, seems to load faster but it just freezes a few hours in, seems to be completely random when.

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door: no music, I pressed start and it just didn't load the next part of the game

Super Smash Bros. Melee: NOTHING. Simply a black screen after the DIOS MIOS logo.

Help?

Good evening everyone. So today I bough a used Wii, which was already softmoded with FW 4.2E. HBC is already installed. I even managed to install USBLoader GX v3.0, but it doesn't want to see my USB HDD. I do connect it to the left USB port (because when I connect my HDD to the right USB port, I get the message "Waiting for HDD"), but I don't see any games. I've tried putting them into different folders (games, gamez, wii, iso, root folder), but everything I get is the list of channels and a text line "13 games, 0.19GB of 0.19GB free".
Additional facts:
1. Games are ISO's;
2. HDD is NTFS-formatted;
3. I don't know what is my IOS, cIOS and all these things, and I don't know, how to view them.

So, I don't (yet) care about emulators and VC, but, as far as I know, they're just WADs which are simply installed through WAD Manager or other similar soft.

All I want is to play my Wii and (in future) GC backups. I've been trying to get everything working for ~3 hrs, but still can't figure it out.

if you want to play wii and Gamecube from usb, the drive MUST be formatted to FAT32. the entire drive.
If I were you, I'd softmod over again, dont uninstall anything, just run modmii, from your PC, it will generate a step by step guide you can print out and follow, have a 2GB SD card handy to put the files modmii dl's for you onto, then into wii,
Use Wii backup manager to transfer your isos from pc to usb with. it will create a folder on your usb called wbfs, thats the folder usb loaders look for, thats why you didnt get anything working there.
And dont worry, Wii backup manager automatically splits files/iso's over 4GB for you. how easy is that?

use ModMii :D

I used modmii and it did everything for me. In a way It made it too easy so I'm none-the-wiser about the inner workings of anything.

Can I ask what exactly is a forwarder? The reason I ask is because I noticed the new priiloader can install some file to the nand and I've read that you can install forwarders here to autoboot USBloader, etc.

I've noticed that forwarders are very specific. For example there is a different forwarder for Wiiflow and Configuable USBloader, even a specific priiloader version of that forwarder.
That's why I'm quite confused as to what exactly a forwarder is.

I was wondering Is it possible to install a "generic" forwarder here that boots another forwarder from a specific folder on the SD card? That way I can avoid having to write to nand whenever I wish to change what autoboots from Priiloader which I think is safer.

In my quest to find such a generic forwarder I came across CrazyIntro. It seems to do what I want, that is the ability to autoboot something else entirely simply by changing what is on the SD card or a button press.
I found this:
http://gbatemp.net/topic/189411-x-flaks-crazy-intro-videos/

Other than that thread information on Crazyintro is quite scarce and it seems the package in that thread is for an older priiloader, does that matter?

@[member='Cue2'], you can think of a forwarder as a windows shortcut. It launches an application saved at a certain location. For example, a usbloader forwarder would load an app saved to sd or usb:\apps\usbloader\boot.dol and\or sd or usb:\apps\wiiflow\boot.dol, etc.

an app for the wii generally comes in either a dol or elf extension. But you can save\inject a dol\elf into a Wii Channel\WAD so that after installing the WAD it appears on the main wii menu and can be used as a shortcut to access other apps (dols or elfs) saved to your sd card or usb.

You don't need to worry about installing a file to priiloader, it is harmless. It doesn't overwrite anything other than other files that have already been installed to priiloader.

That crazy intro video thread is one of mine actually. It doesn't matter if you're using a newer version of priiloader, that's okay. Btw, there's a difference between crazy intro and crazy intro video. Other than the obvious (replacement video vs. replacement health and safety screen), crazy intro video can only autoboot to installed channels (including forwarder channels) on your wii, whereas crazy intro can also launch apps directly based on their path.

I've written pretty extensive instructions on crazy intro video, if you have further questions after reading up on that thread let me know.

edit: btw, u can build your own forwarder dol's using ModMii Classic's advanced downloads feature. And you can inject those dol's into WAD's using customize mii.

@[member='Fazermint'],
Devolution has antipiracy protection measures whereas Dios Mios does not. If you're not pirating your games, that shouldn't be a factor. Other than that, for now the main difference is different game compatibility. Why not try both and see what you prefer.

Ok thanks :)

Moar questions!
- Will my Wii lose the ability to play real game disks via the standard disk channel if I replace the mIOS with DIOS MIOS?
- Can I use the same USB hard disk for the gamecube games as the one I use for Wii games?

Great! Thanks XFlak.

Can I also ask, Is the crazy intro project your project, and whether it is still active?
The last upload on the project page:
http://code.google.com/p/crazyintro/downloads/list
seems to be from early 2010, I've been looking at the CrazyIntroVideo source to maybe add looping videos to it but I need advice and I don't want to try something which may have already been considered not a good idea.

Actually I just created that thread and detailed instructions on customizing or creating your crazy intro video. The project itself was entirely done by WiiCrazy, hes also on gbatemp, but Im not sure how active he is these days, but u can try contacting him via PM. If youre serious about enhancing the project, might I suggest USB support?
