my old xenon is over heating in this heat wave im having

is there any free short term fix
A fan next to it, if you have a fan.

Overheating can't be "fixed" without "monetary input". Thermal grease, thermal glue or copper shims cost money, y'see. :P

The best you can do is store the console in a cooler place, make sure that the fans are clean and rotating fine and that there's enough space for the intake/exhaust, and you should be doing that already anyways.

Set the fans to 100% if you haven't done that already.
Stick some extra fans to the 360 if you haven't done that already.

Xenons are always overheating so you're basically trying to put a forest fire out with a squirtgun.

Sometimes putting a fan next to electrical equipment that produces heat can be a bad thing, It can interrupt the airflow or even blow hot air back into the system. I'm not sure if it will have a negative effect for the 360 though,
