Got mine today and love it so far.

However, I was doing a system transfer at gamestop, which takes a LOOOOOOONG fucking time....
And after about 20 min of system tranfering, and it enter the last stage of tranfering (eshop data)
It got fucking interupted (the original 3DS Disconnected from internet) and I would have to do the shit all over again.....
I said screw this shit, and just told them that I don't care anymore...
20$ of eShop stuff down the toilet.

Is the screen a lot more pixelated than 3DS or is it not very obvious?

EDIT: fking typos

it's not much more pixelated at all.
Everything looks nice, though Tales of the Abyss does looke a bit more pixeleted but that's because it looked bad in the first place, we didn't see it as much on the normal 3DS small screen.

Tested Kid icarus and Legend of zelda and both looks amazing on the XL

I also own the DSI XL. Some disappointing things Nintendo have done to save money on the 3DS XL. One of the things is the adapter, you get only one stylus the big pen like stylus has been taken away, also the box is smalled and looks cheaper. The screen are bigger than the DSI XL but to me the buttons on the 3DS also feel a little cheap (It doesn't help when I got the Red/Black 3DS and the black buttons start, select and so on you cannot see unless you have good light). The other good thing is I got mine yesterday as I ordered it online.

I'm not going to trade my 3DS for a 3DSXL because:

1. Apparently it comes without a charger so I will have to buy it seperatly. I don't have a DSi(XL) so if I trade my DS I would lose my charger too.

2. No 2nd analog and it isn't compatible with the Circle Pad Pro. I don't really need a 2nd analog, I can play KH 3D just fine, but can imagine that for a future shooter it will be more fun that way.

3. The 3D gets blurry and isn't any better than on the 3DS

4. I have no problems with the 'shinyness' of the 3DS.

5. Just put a piece of cloth between the screens when you close it and there are no anoying lines.

6. I can read everything just fine at the current size.

7. I have no problem with the angle at which you have to watch, it feels quite natural to me and if someone else wants to watch you just turn of the 3D or let him play for a while.

8. Also I like a compact handheld that easily fits in your pocket ( GBA SP/Micro, DS/i, 3DS) over a bigger one which you really have to shove in and has a corner sticking out of your pocket.

Really, if they would have just added a 2nd analog and improved the 3D significantly I would have bought it no question, but I think I'll let this one pass.

8. And most importantly: To me a console of that size isn't a handheld anymore, It's not really easy to slide in you pocket is it?

My ds phat fitted in my pockets and it's thicker than the 3DS:XL
So far all the DS's and 3DS have been able to fit in my pocket.
But I would never dream to ever ever ever have any handheld console in my pockets.
Not even a Gameboy Micro.
But then I always my "IT Lab" with me in my bag. (phone, laptop, handheld gaming device and much more treasures and junk stuff)

Well it's not that I put my 3DS that much in my pocket (I only do this when I'm going somewhere without a backpack), but it's just some kind of standard for me.
And yes my DS phat fitted perfectly in my pocket, but thickness and width x length aren't the same.
I can put my DS phat in my pocket and walk around with it without even noticing it, while you really have to shove your DSi XL in your pocket with a corner sticking out of your pocket all the time and when you're walking around it's annoying.

I don't know, to me a handheld console has to be not too small (because then it really has a small screen) and not too big and the 3DS XL is just a little to big to me.
It's not that I dislike big handhelds, but I like compact ones more personally, so maybe I shouldn't have said that it's the most important factor, but it is a significant one.
I rephrased rule 8 because of this.
But it's not only the factor that it's too big that's stopping me from buying it. I mean, the PSVita can't fit into your pocket that easily because of the analogs but that didn't stop me from buying it either.
If I didn't already have a 3DS I would have got me this one for sure, but the changes and pro's are too minimal for me to trade my 3DS for it.

Would it be worth it to buy a 3DS XL after only having the original fat DS model?

Yes a 3DS XL would certainly be worth buying if you don't have a 3DS yet.

but the circle pad pro was released by Nintendo after the 3ds release. so it would just be a matter of time before they will do the same for the 3ds xl. so I think you can't really say that is a con. sure it would be much better if Nintendo actually included it in this version, but maybe they just want to earn some extra money.

on the other hand, the lack of a charger completely astonish me, because why does the consumer wants to pay seperately for his charger. this is just one of the most stupid decisions Nintendo ever made.

I agree with Beertje about the annoying lines on the upper screen, a piece of cloth is the most easy solution for it. however, I don't think it matters enough to choose a 3ds over a 3ds xl.

the biggest advantage of the 3ds xl is in my opinion that the screen size will be perfect to watch movies in moonshell or the build in movieplayer. maybe even subbed anime would be readable now.

anyway, I am still waiting for a pricedrop for the 3ds now, because the same happened with de dsi when they released the dsi xl. a mere 10 € here, but it was something. though I got my dsi on the release date.

2. No 2nd analog and it isn't compatible with the Circle Pad Pro. I don't really need a 2nd analog, I can play KH 3D just fine, but can imagine that for a future shooter it will be more fun that way. - Irrelevant, a new CPP is coming, ninty themselves already confirmed this.

3. The 3D gets blurry and isn't any better than on the 3DS - Wrong, i have had the 3DS and traded it in for the XL, the 3d is clearer, there is less glare on the screen and everything just looks nicer on the XL, seriously!

4. I have no problems with the 'shinyness' of the 3DS. - Personal choice i guess, i hated the glossy 3DS

5. Just put a piece of cloth between the screens when you close it and there are no anoying lines.

6. I can read everything just fine at the current size. - Yup, me too but bigger is WAY better!

I have answered a couple of your "facts" that are clearly based on personal opinion which has no basis as you've not tried the unit yet.
I respect that YOU don't want to get an XL, but to make up negative stuff that has no factual or experience basis is just silly, you simply could of said "nah, not for me".

All but 2 of the things he said were either a matter of preference. Only 2 of them are "facts" that were somewhat incorrect (2 and 3). If he wants to speak his mind on why he doesn't like it, he's completely free to do so.

But anyway, what are they talking about when they say "shiny" 3D?

Yes of course it's almost all personal and in never said anywhere they are facts, also I didn't know about the new CCP.
This is just based on what I have seen and heard from sources I trust.
From what I have seen I think it's not worth it to trade my 3DS for the 3DS XL.
That doesn't mean I can't revise my decision after I tried it.

I've been toying with this ever since i read the news that the 3DS XL was to be released.

1. I already got the 3DS

2. I don't really wanna trade it in my 3DS for the 3DS XL, due to how much less i'd get for it than what i paid for it.

3. I doubt i'd play it that often (like the 3DS i have now)

4. I always want the best, the larger screens are much more preferable to me.

5. So if i bought the 3DS XL that would mean i would have two 3DS consoles which i would seldom use.

So the outlay for the 3DS XL i am thinking, will be a waste due to me not playing it more than the 3DS i have now, but i want it so bad.

I had the same feelings of wanting an item when the Vita was released but i managed to control myself with that, i hope i can now with the 3DS XL.

So is it worth it?

I always value worth by, an item is only worth what someone would pay for it.

In all honesty I would say the 3DS XL isn't worth it to current 3DS owners. I mean it's just a bigger screen. It may sound nice but all your add-ons won't work for it (battery packs, Circle Pad Pros, etc) and I've heard the data transfer is a pain in the ass.

It's not as much of a step up from a DS Phat to a DS Lite or even a DS Lite to a DSi. I think if you've got a 3DS already, stick with it, if you want one and you don't own one already, XL looks to be the way to go.

...Of course I would still want a built in second circle pad.

Fuck yeah, it's worth it. That 4.88" screen will give 3DS games a new life. It don't need no battery pack thanks to the increased battery life and it's getting its own Circle Pad Pro.

If you got a 3DS, you should trade it in and get this. Better ergonomics, bigger sexy screen and better buttons.

And bigger pockets required to tote it around comfortably. Unless of course, you want to hold it everywhere you go.
