I was going to say Scribblenauts, because everything pointed towards "groundbreaking", but the reality was, "fun for 10 minutes". Super fixed the busted touch controls (sort of...), but the game didn't quite live up to its potential, which was "a game whose enjoyment is only limited by your imagination". Not so, unfortunately.
So yeah, I
was going to say Scribblenauts, but then...
SNK vs Capcom: Card Fighters DS. Awesome games on the NGPC, but gash on the DS. Horrible cheesy graphics, unwieldy interface and, best of all, a bug that meant the game couldn't be completed until they sent out fixed version.
This is, by far, the biggest gaming disappointment in my entire life. Finally, one of the most addictive cult titles in gaming history gets a vehicle which should surely bring it the recognition it deserves - a sequel on a system that people actually own. A system that a LOT of people own. But no, not only was the art handed over to the 2-bit blob Falcoon, whose interest in breasts and more breasts led to several terrible character choices (like 4 different versions of several girls), the entire game system was changed to a broken mess. The player that goes first wins, absolutely no balance, design decisions that were clearly never tested (throwing a horde of vanillas at the opponent is more effective than using card abilities)...
And even if you have no problem with the way the game plays or the fact that they took out over half of the roster from the original two games, there is the unacceptable molasses-slow transitions, which make every minute of the game seem like a slog. Collecting cards is an absolute nightmare until you finish the game and can get more cash/better packs. I could see a first-time developer struggling a bit with the DS, but not TWO huge seasoned mega devs. I don't care about the game-breaking bug because they fixed it, but yeah, that was pretty loopy.
And just in case you fools think I'm riding the nostalgia train over a passable game, I, to this day, still play the original games (the first on my NGPC and the extend version via emulator on my PSP). Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........
