This coming Sept. 30th, 2012, the CycloDS domain will expire. It is anyone's guess what will become of the site, but based on their track record it is more than likely that we will lose it forever.

The iEVO is a pretty good DS-Mode flash kit with potential for DSi-Mode Homebrew. Some DS Homebrew developers have expressed an interest in updating, fixing, and adjusting the iEVO code. However, for that to happen the sources would need to be released, either to a private developer as as opensource code.

Before all contact with the CycloDS team is lost, why not make an effort to obtain the sources? Perhaps consider registering at their forum and making a few threads, or perhaps take a moment to drop them an e-mails requesting that the sources be released into competent hands.

Team Cyclops left us with a promise to support their card, right before they disappeared for more than a year. They took with them thousands of dollars in iEVO sales from unsuspecting gamers who anticipated future updates. As consumers of their products we must take a stand and demand the source code or watch as the CycloDS iEVO becomes another DS-X.

Just buy a better card.

very few cards support DSi mode, genius.
And out of all that support DSi mode, how many have been updated to run on new firmwares? From what I read, you can only run it in DSi mode because it hasn't been updated to allow DS mode again, and DSi mode has some issues that need to be addressed, but can't be fixed because... you guessed it. And if Nintendo hasn't already blocked it's ability to boot into DSi mode, they will soon, and of course Team Cyclo won't be there to patch that. It's not about what mode it can run in. It's about compatability and support. If there is no support, then there is no updates. If there's no updates, well then that card will blocked sooner or later completely, and it won't be patched. Those who bought this card early got the most for their money, but in the end, if Cyclo doesn't release the source code of their flash card and they vanish forever, then people will now have to pay for another card.

So needless to say, many cards can in fact be considered better than this card, since they have been updated on a regular basis. DSi mode isn't required. It just has to be able to run, and run with excellent compatability.

Holy hell, do any of you actually know about this cart?

- As expensive, or more so than the DSTwo
- The only cart to support DSi mode
- DS mode has been blocked for ages
- DSi mode was blocked pretty much a single update later
- Team Cyclops disappeared shortly after the DS mode block, without an update to be seen
- The CycloDSi is now a huge waste of cash that is totally unsupported by anybody
- Without the sources, nobody will be able to update the firmware or modify the kernel
- Even with the sources, there are no guarantees that updates will be seen

I think Team Cyclops has totally abandoned everything to do with the forum or their emails, so nobody remain hopeful that dropped the cash on this terribly useless cart that it will actually see anything that resembles an update. It would be pretty nice if we had the sources, as DSi mode would actually be worthwhile for homebrew developers to focus on again, and DSi mode could even be improved. Now, a question, if anybody can answer: with these sources, would we potentially be able to see DSi mode on other carts? New carts specifically for supporting DSi mode?

Yeah. I couldn't find all the information about it, so thank you for the post. Cyclo iEVO is no where near the best cards. It was completely blocked long ago, and it has the worst support in existance: none.
And you are right. If they released the source, there is a chance that other carts would be able to use that to make their carts, either existing or new, run in DSi mode, but then that would also give a means for Nintendo to block the cards that are based on that code.

I was a Cyclo user, and obviously, feel let down by TC's total disregard to their customers.

The iEVO buyers must really be peeved to be duped by TC, as they were led to believe their DSi mode cart would be well supported as the Cyclo DS was.

As for demanding the source code to be released, i think hell will freeze over before that happens, as TC has shown they don't give a damn about their customers.

I'm so glad i didn't get round to purchasing the iEVO, as i was thinking about making the purchase, but feel for the those that did purchase it.

I was contemplating buying this card, but I decided against it when Team Cyclops dropped support for it. If a source is released and someone manages to piece together updates for the card, I may buy it.

When I read the title, I was like "lolwut the source code was released??"

But there's no reason for TC to release a source code. They used WinterMute's exploit for DSi mode, which is already open source'd.
You can't be certain of that until you see the source for yourself. All I know is that the exploit involves the WiFi chip somehow, or at least so I've read.

I doubt that the source will be released, and without any support for the DSi platform, I doubt that'd even be beneficial for the scene. What we really need is some form of a system exploit, but with everyone busy with the 3DS nowadays, I doubt that we'll see a DSi Mode flashcart or Custom Firmware on the DSi itself anytime soon.

Damn, look who's butthurt. Very few cards? Is there another card that supported DSi mode? Look who's a genius now. LOL I'm smart enough to have never bought that card, and I'm smart enough to know they aren't coming back to offer their code. Bye Bye Coto :D

Damn, look who's dickhead. Very few cards yeah. There isn't another card supporting DSi mode. I'm the genius now ROFL. I'm stupid enough to have ever thought buying that card, and i'm stupid enough to know they may, or may not come back, even if they offer their code. Hi whatevermunoz

So what, DSi mode isn't even that great anyways. It was pretty much an advertising gimmick.

Yeah, even wifi's bugged due to exploit's nature, but, faster cpu & ram, could help too. The thing is, very few cards support DSi mode even if it's kinda underpowered.

regardless of how under powered the dsi is, dsi-mode makes a noticeable difference with emulation and homebrew. many ds-mode homebrew projects could greatly benefit from dsi-mode. run any project compiled for both modes side by side and you will instantly see the differences.

besides that the ievo is an excellent ds-mode flash kit, as its basically the evo. if it had updates it would be contending with all current gen-2 ds-mode flash kits. while the dsi-mode is inherently flawed due to the nature of the hardware mask, it still has untapped potential that will never be discovered if the source code is not released.

it is a bit upsetting that this community can't rally together and attempt to bombard cyclops with emails requesting the source. instead the responses to this thread have been to point out the negative aspects of the card. we shouldn't be concerned about the current state of the card of the lack of support, all that could change if the source was placed into capable hands.

I gotta love how people are saying "Good that I didn't buy the (i)Evo! Such a bad card!". The user interface is quite versatile and - for quite a few people - it's considered better than many others.. I don't know about you, but my Evo from 2008 is still live and kicking with few games that don't work. I've sure as hell got my 40€ worth out of it. If you consider under a half a cent per day worth out of a working flashcart bad, I'd like to see what you consider good. If the iEvo was just patched to work with newer firmwares, the situation could be the same.

Why should we bombard them with emails and their forums? GBAtemp wouldn't like to be bombarded at all, so why should we stoop to such a level?

Do you not think that individuals have tried contacting Team Cyclops to get the sources since they hopped off the face of the planet? It isn't like Team Cyclops just doesn't want to give them (although, that isn't an unlikely scenario); they likely don't even check their email or the forum anymore since it's 90% people asking for updates that will never appear. By the by, spamming is an inappropriate measure, no matter how much you want to save the cart. If they haven't replied to any emails since they disappeared, why would spamming their email now suddenly present the sources to one and all? Plus, you don't think that those emails would get lost in the sea of "this game doesn't work" emails? Hell, I'd be pissed off if I opened the email for the first time in a year and found hundreds of emails of people begging for the sources amongst hundreds more begging for game fixes. Screw the more well reasoned ones, they'll just be lost amongst the demanding and poorly thought out emails.

C'mon. Even I can see a lost cause when it presents itself so plainly.

If you want to try, good on you, but most have accepted that the Cyclo and Edge carts are as dead as dead gets and have moved forward.

To note, that isn't to say that I don't want to see the sources out there, but I don't think you're going to get anywhere near the activity you were hoping, regardless of your attempts at trying to guilt the community into participating. To be entirely blunt, most people just stopped caring about this cart.

i will admit that it is a last-ditch effort. something that did work before. perhaps it will help, perhaps it won't but what harm is there in trying?

spamming would denote hundreds of emails from just me. 1,000 people sending them 1 or 2 legitimate request is hardly spamming, that's just the nature of e-mail.

regardless of your attempts at trying to guilt the community into participating.

careful of the words you use. i am not using guilt to attempt to course anyone into anything. pointing out that the thread took an instant-negative off-topic turn hardly denotes guilt-tripping.

I agree with Another World. Also, don't be douches please.

All I see is her trying to promote something like "Teamcyclops if you're no longer offering any updates, at least give us the tools to support CycloDS iEVO". I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

Why should we bombard them with emails and their forums? GBAtemp wouldn't like to be bombarded at all, so why should we stoop to such a level?

If I had a -rare- DSi flashcart in my hand, which has a lot of potential, i'd do anything to enjoy the best of it. Team Cyclo failed and we should do something to at least have some support, this, because we have some wonderful flashcards developers around the temp.

I don't think you're going to get anywhere near the activity you were hoping, regardless of your attempts at trying to guilt the community into participating.

Hey hey, AW deserves at least a bit of respect, after all. Noone's forcing you to do it, as you shouldn't denote or tarnish her rep using words like that. Sorry but I rarely do this by someone else, but AW's effort in a much richer retro/DS scene activity is worth it.

EDIT: mail sent
