Hacking 3DS, confused

So I'm about to buy a 3DS today, and I obviously don't want to pay alot on games, so I'm going to try and go the piracy way. I tried to inform myself about what exactly is needed to make the 3ds work on homebrew, but everytime I read a new article, it just gets me more confused, so I got a couple of questions.

I heard that the current 3ds 'R4' cards cannot play 3DS games, is that true?
So the more recent firmwares block the 3DS's 'R4' cards from working. If I buy one from the shop, will its current firmware be old enough?
I've seen it around but, is there actually any software-related hack? Such as a custom firmware(Because I would find that more efficient than the R4 card itself)?

nothing can play 3DS roms period, the best you can do is play DS roms on the 3DS in DS mode. The 3DS just got an update and blocked some flashcarts, but i think they should all be working now so if you order a 3DS and a flashcart, i would go with either the ak2i, r4i gold, or scdstwo, those are the 3 top cards on the market by far. There is no custom firmware for 3DS, and most likely never will be, dont get your hopes up, and dont ask for hacks that just annoys people. But enjoy your 3DS and all of the DS gems on the market!

3DS games cannot be run on a flashcard
DSi Games cannot be run on a flashcard

DS games can be run
R4 is a generic name that has been used by millions of terrible cards and only 1 or 2 good ones

the origional R4 will only ever work on DS Phats and DS Lites

there is no other way that you can hack a 3DS to play any other games
there was DSi exploit but was patched so it no longer works and the cards are no longer updated that did so

the 3 top flashcards are:
1.Supercard DSTwo
2.R4i Gold (created by r4ids.cn team, many use R4i gold name but are different and do not work with the desired kernel and cannot be your with the r4ids.cn teams work)
3.Acekard 2i

You know what.... I think the ? mark on the sticky is what makes people confused, maybe they dont understand the part where it says NOTHING PLAYS 3DS ROMS... oh well...

Maybe there should be a prompt that says NOTHING PLAYS 3DS ROMS when you try to start a new topic.

Or maybe everyone should be FORCEFULLY redirected to the 3DS nothing plays roms sticky every time they log in until they learn

Stickies don't work. I've never read them; never even notice them on most forums. Something about them says "naaaaah". They're like the terms and condition - pointless.

What might be a better idea is, say for users who have less than 10 posts have a "do any of these topics answer your question" page forced upon the user before submitting a new thread. After 10 posts, the user could be given the option to switch that feature off.
