I recently got my hands on a second PS3 with OFW 3.55, which I was planning to use as the console for when I need to play online with original games or PSN. However I was wondering if once I update it to the latest firmware and then I happen to want to downgrade it back to CFW, what tools do I need?

E3 including:

- The E3 flasher & front panel switch/led controller
- E3 NOR solderless ribbon cable
- E-SATA docking station(2,5 because of SATA PS3 HDD nature) & E-SATA cable
- A 2,5 SATA HDD over 80GB preferably
- Micro SD(required) & USB cable(optional) to update E3 flasher

Once you've downgraded install the QA Flags so PS3 won't brick when you move from OFW/CFW (be it downgrade, upgrade).

If you're on 3.55 you'll have to choose to:

- upgrade then lose any cfw/downgrade possibility without extra hardware (like E3/infectus) (you can't downgrade on 3.56+ OFW unless a new "hack" is found)
- don't upgrade but you'll be able to use any cfw. (kmeaw/ rogero v3.1 on 3.55cfw recommended! )

I already have a CFW PS3,
Since E3 needs a lot of tools, isn't there any alternative?
What about progskeet or whatever that thing was called.

Uhh if you have a phat PS3 you'll need to solder +30 NAND points to hardware like likprogskeet/infectus, if you've got a slim ps3 you'll need to know its base FW version first (some 320GB models and up can't do 3.55 OFW so you can't til someone finds 3.56+ metldr keys), then solder to NOR chip.
