This is a big problem. 8GB of internal memory isn't nearly enough. I need the SD card slot to watch movies and play games from emulators. I've been waiting for this thing since January and this news is like a punch in the stomach. I don't know what to do now. I need a 7 inch tablet with a quad-core processor, android 4.0 ice cream sandwich and micro SD card slot. Is that so much to ask for?

Not that this is very relevant to the topic(Well it is and isn't) but I don't think it should have one. Call me biased, but this (if it even exists) is going to be a budget tablet for budget people. Should lack features. For a premium tablet get an iPad(Or the other shitty Android tablets that will never be updates from ASUS).

But here's what else I think that's off topic. A 7-inch "tablet" isn't even a tablet anymore. Without the screen size being over 9.7-inches(which is on the small side in my opinion) it's useless. It's too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet.

Lol at the iPad being a "premium" tablet. The only premium thing about it is the $200 engraving of the Apple logo on the back.

OP, you could always consider running something like Stick Mount on it if it doesn't have native support for USB storage. Not exactly the most streamlined solution, but it is certainly a viable one.

Also, in mention of the 7" screen - like I said in the rumour thread, the same scenario I have with my phone applies. On the Galaxy Nexus (toro), with a 4.65" screen, the stock DPI on it is 320. This gives you a 4x5 home screen, and a 4x5 app drawer. Drop the DPI down to 240, the norm for a rooted G-Nex, and your app drawer suddenly increases to a 5x7 grid, and using something like Nova Launcher gives you the ability to comfortably set it to a 7x7 grid on the home screen, portrait and landscape. Same exact aspect as increasing the resolution on a computer monitor - the screen size stays the same, but everything on it is smaller, giving it the perception of being larger than it really is.

iPads are quite affordable in Singapore, and is much cheaper than some other Android tabs with similar specs.

But really, at US$199 I don't care about external storage. Get Dropbox (maybe Skydrive?) for extra storage.

As long it has a decent camera, decent screen and decent quality.

Since it is budget, it probably has to cut down on the features out of necessity, but that does not mean that it should lack features. Having a MicroSD card for easy expandable storage is a cheap addition that allows customs to increase the storage on their tablet without the OEM having to pay for it, it's addition would make perfect sense. Not only that, it allows for easy reading of digital images from cameras, or it can just be an easy method for moving files around your devices as opposed to having to pull out a USB cord. The MicroSD cards have always been a huge advantage for Android devices over Apple devices.

As for the 7-inch tablet thing. Your opinion is completely subjective, there is definitely room for different form factors in the tablet space. Ever since the original Galaxy Tab came out at 7 inches, people have always said how great of a size it is for holding with one hand and how portable it is. Also, ~10 inches is definitely not on the small size, have you seen that 13-inch tablet by Toshiba? That thing's a monster. I personally see the tablet space as having room for both ~10 inch tablets and ~7 inch tablets for more portability.

Well you could get the 16GB version for the rumored $250 instead of the 8GB for $200.

Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) is rumored to have native USB storage support. We'll see later tonight.

huge fail

even 16GB isnt enough onboard so I have added a 32GB microsd card to mine
They're saying there isn't going to be a MicroSD card slot so you can't expand the storage.

i would gladly buy it for that prize, converted thats about 150 euro's, for a fucking quadcore tab?

hell yeah, screw storage xd
How are you supposed to put movies and N64 roms on it that you've downloaded from the internet? That's my concern.
Either through USB or by various apps that allow you to connect to a drive on your network.

That's what I'm saying! On my phone, hard limited to 32GB onboard with no expandability, I'm using maybe 7 gigs out of the 32, spread mostly between apps and game files, downloads I haven't cleared, and Pictures/video. Everything I could care about I have on my server, so I could ftp it to my phone, or stream it off of Google Play.

I think that not having expandable storage is limiting, but certainly not the worst thing in the world.

I'm very confused by the point you're making. You're saying this tablet shouldn't have a micro SD card slot, because that is a feature for premium tablets. Then you say that the iPad is a premium tablet. Maybe I always look at iPads from the wrong angle, but I've never found a micro SD card slot on one of them.

The lack of an SD card slot doesn't really matter with this. Here is my 2c on why.

Everything is being pushed to the cloud. For someone wanting to run emulators and such yeah, there isn't really all that much space to do so. But this isn't an emulation device, it's intended to play music, watch videos, and browse the web. Google is banking on you already using Play Music so you don't need to store music on it. They probably figure most of the space on it is going to be used for apps and video that you record. Are you going to store your entire video library on the thing? Highly unlikely. And if you really need your massive video library to be available at all times I'd say to just use Qloud to stream the video from your computer to the tablet. You'll need to have WiFi connection to do so, but you'll need that do do anything else on it anyway. Store just what you need on the tablet for wifi-less emergencies and the rest of the tile stream it. For music just use their Play Music app and set the songs you listen to most as play offline. The main thing here (and this is something I've been doing with my phone for a while now) is figure out ways to use as little of the actual device memory as you can.

Personally, I've been waiting a long time for this tablet. I had thought about getting one a while back and then the rumors of this one started and I figured I'd wait and see what came of it. I still like what I see, and that one thing isn't a problem to me.

If I pre-order this from google play, will they charge my credit card right away? Or will they wait until it actually ships before they charge it? Also will I have to pay tax on it?

Charged me right away so I'd say yes. Also yes on the tax. They'll give you the total of everything before you have to confirm to buy, so you can go make sure shipping and such.
