I've been ripping GameCube discs using the r31beta airline38 linked
here, but it's choking a bit. I think it has something to do with name detection.
To start with, the folders the games get stored in each have the first four characters stripped off. Pikmin, for example, gets "in [GPIP01]", Soul Caliber II goes in "CALIBUR2 [GRSPAF]", Animal Crossing - "alCrossing [GAFE01]" and so on. Not such a big deal as the GUI doesn't have this problem.
Some games don't rip, though. CFG Loader goes from "Installing..." straight to offering to get covers, without ever showing a progress thingy or actually ripping any data. In these cases, a folder gets created on the SD but the name has an extra ] on the end. For example, 007AUF gets "Agent Under Fire ™ [GW7P69]]". In one case, WaveRacer, the folder was just "RACEE". A couple of my Zelda games (Four Swords + Collection) didn't get a folder at all.
There's also the matter of two-disc games. I've got three - the Baten Kaitos games, and Tales of Symphonia. The loader refuses to rip the second disc if the first disc is on my SD/HDD, giving an error stating it's already ripped (sure, they're technically the same game, but I'm hoping it may be possible to differentiate the discs by title at least).
If I copy the first disc from SD to my computer then wipe it from the card, I still can't rip the second discs - not because the loader throws an error at me, but because it just skips the ripping process like with the games I mentioned above (also skips the folder creation, as with those two Zelda discs).
If it helps, the titles / folders for the first discs are:
Baten Kaitos - "n Kaitos [GKBPAF]"
Baten Kaitos Origins - "n Kaitos Origins [GK4E01]"
Tales of Symphonia - "S OF SYMPHONIA Disc 1 [GQSPAF]"
If they're needed, how can I work out the titles for the second discs?
Edit:
I've worked out part of what's going on. I thought maybe if I started ripping eg the 007 disc, then pulled the SD card to my computer and removed the extra ] from the folder name, I might then be able to put the card back in the console and start ripping.
While I was at it, I figured I should also create a secondary folder that started with a space. But I found my OS wouldn't let me do that.
It was then that I realised that all the games that generate a folder with a double ]] on the end (and fail to rip) "should" have a space as their fifth character. As CFG Loader strips the first four characters off the title when creating the folder, this leads to it trying to create an invalid folder name - it WANTS to make " Agent Under Fire ™ [GW7P69]" but instead ends up with "Agent Under Fire ™ [GW7P69]]", gets confused, and gives up.
This doesn't explain the games that don't get a folder at all, but hey, it's something.
