Sucks to be EU region :P
Not really, it's stupid to go to GAME/Gamestation anyway since they always charge more, going to supermarkets, CeX (for older games) and even just stores like HMV is always likely to be better.
No FIFA Street for you guys
implying thats a bad thing

Only retail that sales video games in my area are walmart, target, and kmart. All three charge far more then Gamestop. Making those 3 stores useless. I guess there is toys ur us and best buy. But they like the 3, are only good when they have a holiday sale.

We're talking about England here, not America.

Although I agree it is probably not ideal for them I do have to look back at various services in the film and music worlds not carrying items from certain distributors over the years.

I do also have to wonder if it will be EA reducing their stance a bit a few months from now although the sales from specialist retail and how it will all change is something I am not especially interested in.

What would be interesting to see is if someone else can become a bigger player in the field.

Edit- forgot to also mention game and gamestation (I am not sure if they are franchised but they do have a bit of autonomy) have been seen plundering supermarket deals on occasion (the 360 deals at I think it was sainsburys last year being the main example of what I was thinking of) so I am sure a few shops will get a few copies via sidechannels.

Edit 2- not entirely what I was thinking of but http://www.reghardware.com/2011/03/30/game_gets_pre_owned_titles_from_tesco/

In the past few weeks they haven't carried the following:
Tekken 3D Prime
All 5 of the PS Vita launch titles from Ubisoft
The Last Story Collector's Edition
The Last Story (mention seperately because they cancelled the CE then two days later the normal edition)
Mass Effect 3 (standard and collections edition, CE was GAME exclusive)
Mario Party 9

Now all future Nintendo and EA games aren't going to be available for the foreseeable future, probably more publishers will follow suit.
Basically it's all due to them loosing their credit insurance and publishers not wanting to take the risk/re-negotiate terms in time.
The day after they cancelled pre-orders for The Last Story CE an interview was conducted in which many things were said, including:
Can you guarantee pre-orders for games that you are currently selling?
Anna-Marie Mason: Absolutely.

Here in Portugal, the last game that GAME stocked for 3DS was Super Mario 3D...

I waited for like 3 weeks before going to FNAC to buy the game, they just kept saying "Will arrive soon!"

They did stock Tales of the Abyss, I got mine pre-ordered from game.co.uk and got it around launch day (one day later, blame mail service) but I got it nonetheless...
Well, I haven't ordered any games from it after that so I dunno what happened afterwards.

A game shop that doesn't stock games?

Yeah, they're going bankrupt within the year.

Wrong. An UK friend showed me an article from digispy. Game doesn't own gamestop. Game is actually looking for gamestop to buy what's left game's stores.

So now that we know gamestop and game are own by two different companies, the over seas members can now stop incorrectly bashing gamestop.

I think this is actually more down to the fact that Game recently had a huge credit crisis - EA and other won't let them stock their games because they don't trust them enough to give them credit so Game cannot therefore purchase massive amounts of copies of the games as this would knacker their cash flow situation, and they can't generate enough cash flow without selling the games in the first place. Catch 22, and the end of Game.
