What EXACTLY are you learning? Japanese or romhacking?
If it's Japanese, you may want to put off on a translation for a looooong while, because it will take years to be fluent.

If romhacking, then you may want to try working on easier games, even games that are already in English, for practice.

I am sorry guy but if you can't figure out how the names work while you are working on this game since 1 year, then you will never get anywhere with this translation. Start to learn how to translate first (probably another simplier game would be better) and then come back to this.
Not to make myself good but I was curious about this game after i saw some movie on youtube and this post but just after working on it for 15 min, i got this:

Don't ask me how I have done it because it's just elementary hacking and I don't have time to teach to somebody.

UPDATE:
Playing around a bit more, you get this:

PS: Yes, I know I am evil sometimes but I love this kind of slaves :P

PS2: this game accept ASCII out of the box, has english alphabet out of the box, VFW out of the box and no pointers.
It really only need a good translator and it could easaly be done.
At RHDN, they are talking about "open source" translations, maybe I should propose this :)

If you don't know how to romhack, you should probably try learning first.

You can't learn romhacking by pictures. You learn with hands-on experience and documents.
I don't really have the time to teach you and you don't really seem like listening. I've linked you to sites that can help you with romhacking before and it seems like you just ignored them(Just check the first page of this thread.).

If you can't put in the time to learn romhacking or Japanese, then don't try to "translate" a game. It involves quite a bit of time, patience and learning.

Hi, afraid not this is my first project of this kind. My japanese is alright and computer ability is good(ish) :) lol but self praise aside I'm struggling with changing some of the graphics, for instance I can't get the main logo to display properly so I can edit it but I'm sure I'll figure it out :s

I'm going to make it available here : http://ikaros.site88.net but this is something I'm doing in my spare time so no eta.

whoo awesome, I can get those bits out of the way now but how did you manage to get them to diplsay like that? I was using Tinke and CrystalTile2 but could not get them to display properly?

There are other graphics that need translating but I managed to do them ok.

Well, your tool choice is not bad but I would expand it with Console Tool (http://llref.emutalk.net/projects/ctool/) especially if you want to see NCERs (not important for this graphics).
Anyway, you probably saw that CT2 say the NCBRs are compressed so you sure need to decompress them.
After you do that, you open them with an hex editor and take a good look at the beginning of the file (the first line) and to the NCGR documentation you find here: http://llref.emutalk.net/docs/
What is the difference between NCGR and NCBR?? Only that in a NCGR all tiles have the same size and in the NCBR they have different sizes (normally already composed so like they appear on screen).
Can you continue from here??

Yes, I believe I've grasped it now, thanks very much :)

Edit, when I goto recompress the edited images with LZ volume compression in CT2 the filesize is always bigger than the original, even if i change nothing in the image, is this normal?

Well, assuming you do the things right, it's possible because the algorithm for compression are probably not identical but it shouldn't matter, the NDS file structure is flexible.

Well, there is no translation group that i know of.
You see yourself that the guy above disappeared longtime ago.
Anyway, because i liked the anime and because it took me only some time to make some batch files to get a text dump in a good formatting (thanks to Sjis_dump), I made probably a pretty complete script dump for you (or somebody other that want to translate).
In the zip you will find always 2 files with the same name but one .dat and one .txt extention.
You need to care only about the TXT that you can open with win word or any text editor that supports Sjis encoding.
The script dump look like this:

Position : b0
……んん……

Position : cb
ん……朝か……

Position : 10e
おはようございます……マスター。

Please insert the translation just below each japanese phrase.

I am actually not working on this project but if there is a good translation around, I am sure somebody will pick it up or at least publish a "paper translation" for the game.
If one day i will have more time, it's good possible that I will pick it up if nobody else do it before that time.

Here the files.

Have fun
