Going by that definition, what kinds of obscure games are on the Nintendo DS?

However, if you look at it, it's actually a very well-known series due to its slight similarities to Pokemon or Digimon.

Regardless, this list is going to be rather subjective to ones opinions, as a game might be less "well-known" to one person as ~~obbosed~~(rofl) apposed to the another

I mean in general, not obscure according to one person or another. Those games that are undeniably obscure from 99% of all standpoints.

I thought that was another fashion sim. I guess not...

Wait wait wait... you're making this as an update thread and not just general chit chat? You gotta do a little bit better than Contact, Lost in Blue, and Wizard of Oz. They were kind-of big when they did release. They made splash... Its just its 2012... I'd argue that they're more forgotten than they are obscure. Lost in Blue had 3 games on the DS and one on the Wii. Games that aren't well-known don't get more games, especially 3 more...

And Contact got buzz because not only was it one of the few NinWifi games at the time, but it was an Atlus RPG. And Atlus, especially Atlus RPGs don't go unnoticed.

And before RIZOAWD even released in Japan, it got alot of talk just because it was based off Wizard of Oz, and made more splash when announced for English, was pretty popular among RPG enthusiast with a DS.

The only real reason these games aren't talked about are either because they're old and forgotten, or never received proper advertisement to appeal to gamers who aren't aware of every release. I'd say they're more known among everyone than you might think.

Though the honorable mentions will probably attract people who aren't active in the culture, system, genres...

In Japan, Pinky Street Kira Kira Music Hour came out, and soon after, Pinky Street Kira Kira Music Night.
Europe got their versions, just Kira Kira Pop Princess, and then a year+later finally got the 2nd, but its just called "Pop Town"

Its a Rythm game based off of the Pinky Street Dolls. Do a dance fight, win clothes/accessories. Like the Pinky Street dolls, the game also let you customize your character. Where the dolls you could swap heads/body parts to make your own doll, in the game, you swap clothes, hairs, faces, and accessories to c\make your own character.

Naturally, the Jap version have cuter voices. Music Hour/Pop Princess, has an Easy and Normal Difficulty only, and you can't change them. Music Night/Pop Town has an added Hard difficulty and you can change difficulty. Both games share the same engine, and so they share most of the same collectible items. Theres also some pretty nice tunes from the game, and the OST has a few awesome remakes.

Though I really have a hard time understanding exactly what is "obscure" on the DS. I've followed pretty much every DS-related News article since early 2005, and tried nearly every unique ROM that wasn't based on an old European kid's show, or some sort of learning "game" sim thing... You'd be surprised how many great games you discover when you force yourself to try nearly every one of them. As soon as I got my 1st (Technically 3rd) Flashcart, I started from Rom #0001, and downloaded pretty much everything up to #1100, and from then on, I kinda just kept up with #1100-#5900 as they released. The only games I can't give you opinions about are that one Furry game that shall not be named, any DSiWare that is not Shantae, and technically any DSi-exclusive game, but we all know DSiExclusives were jokes.

I kid you not, that game is what made me buy a DS. I mean, there were other games I wanted to play, but I was like, AHHHHH, I want that one!

Years ago I did a couple blog posts outlining some "obscure" DS games. If you really want to search for them then go ahead but I remember a few off the top of my head:

Culdcept DS: Basically Magic the Gathering meets Monopoly, good for fans of TCGs. Translation patch translates all the cards and rules so you'll be able to play it fine. Pretty sure there's an English PS2 game for it but it's ultra rare.
Sideswiped: Best racer on the system. Basically Burnout for the DS but not shitty. Really fun and it has a surprising amount of content and stuff, in some ways I would play it over the PSP Burnout games.
Chronos Twin: There's a DSiWare/Wiiware version of it but years before that came out there was a DS version for Europe only. Translation isn't perfect but it's really challenging and fun.
Zombie BBQ: Loved by me for obvious reasons.
Fighting Fantasty: A little rough around the edges and the difficulty curve is supposedly atrocious but its got a lot of fans around here. I'm not the best to ask though, I haven't gotten too far.
Orcs and Elves: First person grid based dungeon crawler, basically just a high fantasy version of Doom RPG/Wolfenstein RPG (pretty sure this was a precursor to both). Really fun as well.

Don't now how obscure this is, but Dun-Dam: Dungeons and Dam doesn't appear in a lot of conversations (and not because it was garbage, it's actually pretty fun!). Can't find the related thread so I can link it - if someone can, can they please tell me how they found it. I'm usually really good with search bars, but nothing I put in is giving me any results.

Well, actually, I've seen that BTYBR is pretty obscure now because it was only a limited quantity release and never received proper advertisement (sure, there's a trailer for it, but it's so poor that I could make something better in Windows Movie Maker for the Windows 98). I've been following a friend's tumblr account and when she posted screens and video of the game, a lot of people said things like "Woah, this looks cool. Never heard of this!" And these are people who boast upon their knowledge of games.

Even if it's not obscure in America or Europe, I can at least consider it to be obscure in Japan, due to its release coinciding with that of Mother 3. It was basically overshadowed by a much better game didn't sell well and if that doesn't make a game obscure, I don't know what does.

...Also, I'm still updating the list. I'm not really good at these things. Maybe I should have a rating system or something.

Eh.... I don't know... maybe Oz is considered obscure... but I know it was one of those games that many people were waiting for. Like I stated before somewhere else... I pretty much know most DS games' release dates weeks-months in advance at like all times. And I know that the game had it's fair share of blog/news articles via IGN, DS-Fanfoy, (now joystiq), and other miscellaneous sites. I'd say I'm one of the rare ones like that. To me, through my point of view, I only view games as obscure when they totally surprise me after they released, not before it. The games that hit the DS Release scene/list that I never saw coming are the games that I claim myself are obscure. Which is actually not many...
