another question should i softmod my 4.0u wii before updating to 4.2u or update my wii first before softmoding?
If you don have HBC yet its your choice (download hbc then update then soft mod or update then download hbc then softmod) id just update first if u dont have hbc yet

i have black wii console and i have used modmii a few good times before. i have downloaded the files needed to softmod the wii using the logo indiana exploit. after putting the files onto the sd card and starting indy, when selecting the icon and pressing the a button i get a hanging message on the screen and the process fgoes no furthur. this is the message i get on screen just after pressing the a button in indy:
"cleaning up enviroment..... eventhook release failed with code 0.
ok.
sd card not present? (-1056964576)
sd card not found (- 10569457)
usbgecko not found
no code found to load, hanging."

the sdcard is in the slot with all the files copied from the "COPY TO SD CARD" folder in the modmii directory.
i have alwasy done this the same way and this is no different from the norm. can anyone help me get to the bottom of the issue. thanks..............................sudeki300

EDIT: i have tried a smaller size GB sd card and it's all good. thannks.............................sudeki300

Worked a treat as always. BUT I think I should point something out for other users.

This release includes cMIOS as part of the latest files. This allows you (in conjunction with cIOS) to use backup Gamecube discs. An unfortunate side effect is that you cannot use retail Wii discs via the disc channel anymore. It always says cannot read this disc. (Retail discs play fine using a USB loader to launch)

If using retail Wii discs via the disc channel is something you'll need (as I do) then you need to overwrite cMIOS with the official standard (v10?) MIOS. Download using NUSD, remember to set the option to pack as a wad. Transfer the wad to your SD card and then flash using WiiMod v3 included with this file.

Only retail GC discs should be affected. Not Wii discs from my understanding. Are you saying your Wii retail games wouldn't work either?

Not sure if this is the place for this but:

I have an older wii with system menu 4.3U that I soft modded a copule of weeks ago via letterbomb. Got homebrew channel, bootmii, nand backup, priiloader and boom the usb HDD was going great. Fast forward to this week when I decided to take the mod to the next level (channels, emulators,...) but wanted to make certain I had actually got my backup and priiloader brick protection. So, I re-modded with letterbomb again and did another nand backup to be sure. Unfortunately, the mod pack I used suggested to run some IOS wads which I did. That is where my issues started.

Now, I get:
"ERROR!
USB loader GX needs unstubbed cIOS 222 v4 or 249 v9.
I found
222 – 36868
249 – 0
To figure out how to get some cIOS action going on
in your wii and come back too me."

I am guessing the IOS updates removed the trucha bug. I have tried unsuccessfully to get it back. I tried the IOS36 patch from multi-mod manager with no success (I was using the option to download from NUS). Can I use this guide from the point where homebrew/bootmii is installed? Do I need to do the IOS15 downgrade? I know this issue has probably been resolved time and again but there appears to be many opinions on a solution. Thanks for any help.

Assuming you have a HBC installed that supports ahbprot >1.0.6, then you can just follow the Mod section of this guide. You definitely don't need to downgrade anything, and you shouldn't need to worry if you do or don't have 236 installed.

I used modmii to grab the offline files and ran that with success. I now get usb loader gx to run (although there is a message at its start stating an IOS236 or IOS249 error). However, I am now getting an exceptopm DSI occcured error during some applications (homebrew browser) forcing a reboot of the wii and the gamecube forwarder channel reboots the wii. Makes me sick because my first mod went flawless with no issues and for some stupid reason I felt the need to do it again (and used some failtube suggestions).

Thx for the info.

Let me start off by saying you could've posted a new thread. No hard feelings there.

What you want to do it is use ModMii to remod your Wii and that should work (follow the guide generated).

Nah, we keep it up to date for people who want to use this as a base mod, and then do stuff by themselves (as opposed to ModMii doing it for them). When people have to do it themselves, they learn more, which means less silly questions when something messes up.

So you don't think they will learn more if they use this guide to mod their Wii, and then work on figuring out the USB loaders, etc etc by themselves as opposed to ModMii doing it all for them? Well I disagree.

I think it's better not to start someone off with a sucky setup with the potential to brick a region changed Korean Wii (most owners don't realize they have one) for no reason at all. You have people update to 4.2 "firmware" for no reason with nonsense about it being homebrew friendly, when in fact it is designed to remove homebrew and brick region changed Korean Wii's.

I guess you could say following this guide then having to start over so you can fix it's mistakes is a learning experience, so there is that.

ModMii is much easier besides, and it generates CUSTOM guides tailored to your needs! And it likes to point out talented dev's (including giantpune, deadlyfoez, etc.)
