So I got the Zelda OOT 3DS bundle for my birthday (2 weeks ago) and decided to pick up MK7 to give me something else to play so I don't get burnt out on Zelda. I loved the older MK games (especially SNES, N64 and Wii) but for some reason I just can't find myself falling for MK7 in the same way...

It feels like Nintendo replaced any sort of skill requirements with the randomness of the item slots when it comes to winning. Be in the lead for 2 1/2 laps and then the guy in 5th gets a blue shell and you suddenly lost your position. I don't remember the blue shell seeming quite as OP in the older entries (except maybe N64)

Otherwise the game seems good. I do enjoy the level designs + the selection in retro courses that were brought back (Would've also liked N64 Rainbow Road :D), the graphics are really good and the options for cart custimization are good also.. but I just don't like that sometimes it seems as though you would be better off cheesing the race by sitting back in 5th-8th for 2 rounds and then move in for a win after you getting something nice off the slots.

Anyone else feel like the game can be quite frustrating at times? I like to think I am not alone, RL friends seem to go on about how great it is and say "U MAD BRO?" if I even mention it to them -.-

The glitches (well, people that exploit them online and ONLY pick glitched courses) and the randomness of it is a little frustrating.. I still find the game fun though.

That's been in like...every Mario Kart game ever. This always happened to me in 150cc in N64, Wii, and DS versions.

True, too an extent. It seems like it is more in favor of it this time around though. 150CC was always a bit worse than the others because of this, but in MK7 I am still pushing through 100CC and I have had quite a few levels where I get blue shelled right at the finish line and come in 3rd because of that explosion lol. It's like the computer won't actually let you get too much of a lead ahead of the pack like in previous games?

I have heard about the online glitch issue and have stayed away from online play for the time being. I would like to see it get fixed though so the playing field will be a bit more fair :)

Mario Kart Wii was horrible with items compared to Mario Kart 7.

You just don't know how to race, I never have any problems staying in first.

I've followed this video, and I rarely get hit by blue shells. It's awesome, makes the game more fun because you're not getting hit by multiple items while in the same spot.

This exactly. Never had no problems.

Mario Kart has never really been, and certainly never will be in the future, fair.

Mario Kart is about how to use every trick to your advantage to do one of two things: stay in first place, or stay in second place and get really good at stealing first when it counts. It's a competition from beginning to end -- fun and/or fair don't even factor in to it.

Where Mario Kart shines is that it's accessible to everyone, and everyone can learn the skills required to be really good at it. You have to abuse driving techniques, items, glitches, anything at your disposal to win.

It's a dirty, dirty game, and you have to play dirty to win. If you aren't willing to play dirty, you're better off getting a different racer.

I will need to look at these. I have had lots of internet issues lately so my only chance to do much on the web is at work until they fix the lines, but it sounds like it might help.

I am no stranger to how MK plays though, and I can still pull myself ahead to get a win in the cup with maybe 2 stars (again, in 100cc atm) but there are so many times when that has almost been stopped.

I didn't really have any issues on the Wii MK though, which is why I wondered if there is a sort of leash or anything that prevents you beign too far ahead of the pack. In past games you could be so far ahead that even if you got hit with something, you could recover and keep going without anyone coming close to you, but this doesn't seem to be the case for me at least.

Funny, ever since I watched that vid, I would be able to be ahead, take a blue shell or two, and still be up front a decent bit.

I feel like blue shells were less of a problem in this games compared to MKDS, but the damn Bullet Bill is a real pain in the ass now for some reason.
And the online glitchers suck too. Plus I feel as though they removed too many features from this game that were present in the previous games, and I really wish they would bring back 40 courses.

I honestly feel items in general are much less of an annoyance in this game than before. The blue shell is much rarer than in Mario Kart Wii, where in 150cc it's common to get hit by 3 or 4 in one race compared to MK7 where there are maybe a maximum of 3, and the lightning no longer removes your "reserve" item, so you always still have the chance to defend yourself while in 1st. Race well, and race smart. That's really all you need to stay put to.

Mario Kart 7 is a lot fairer than Mario Kart Wii, except for the glitches but you can also glitch to beat the glitchers (I choose not to cause I want to get as much coins as I can).
If you get far ahead enough, blue shells won't harm you, it's fun to have a threat to your first place and a reason to get as far ahead as possible.
Too much people are comparing the difficulty to the insanely easy Mario Kart DS.

Played 4 games online the majority of the people I played with chose the Maka Wuhu. this glitch sucks.

I'm pretty tired of seeing complaints about this track.

The glitch is there, USE IT. It doesn't ruin the game. Practice it! You think N64 Rainbow Road was ruined by its glitch? No! It just becomes an extra skill to nail it successfully each time. Mario Kart is about winning. Nothing else. The more people use the glitch, the less interesting the track will become to all but the hardcore, who will fight for microsecond dominance.
