@Auryn I was joking about the apostrophe, I think you're doing a wonderful job. For a moment I though I would have to learn japanese to play the game...And no need to apologize. Just sent you the PM bye the way...

correcting the false affirmation
I might help with english to french translation

As Edgeworth's fan, I think I should contribute something to this project.
So, here you go. Take this!
happy.gif

AAI2's table file (including all Kanji's)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/474wtq54ekwc...wel_AAI2Jpn.tbl

I might have missed something, so if you spot any missing characters, let me know.

Wow I'm bumping a many months posts but I noticed a lot few of errors in our table : EAAA, F6AA etc...
Some characters are missing too (yen symbol, borgian, etc...)
How did you find this one ? By trial and errors ? It's a table of another CAPCOM game maybe ?

[Edit]Translation mistake by saying "a lot", I'm deeply sorry of that !

No, I've never seen a table like this in other game before. I just made it from scratch by comparing the game scripts and the output scripts.
(Ex. if you see the code in the rom that XXXX outputs to a letter A, then that means XXXX=A, etc. So it's more like manually matching the codes, but you can call it trials and errors as well.)
I didn't test much of the symbol outputs since I didn't need them to extract the scripts, so it's possible that they are wrong or missing.
But most of the common Japanese kana's and kanji's should be correct as I briefly checked them with the extracted scripts.

Yes there are very few erros and only with symbols. I was curious because that's a huge work you did there just by hand. I'm really impressed.

But the yen character is still missing and I fail to find it. Could you help again with that ?

[Edit] I re-read my previous post, "a lot' instead of "a few" was a translation mistake ! Sorry and I hope I didn't hurt you ! :(

I can't find the yen character either. But if you need to use it, you can replace any kanji character with a yen sign and output that one instead. I'm pretty sure you'll have plenty of unused kanji's left. (Ex. If you don't use 見, just find the font for 見 and draw a yen sign on it. Then whenever you need to output a yen sign, just use the code for 見 from the table.)

Haha, you scared me a bit when you said 'a lot.' ^_^ I'm glad there were just a few.

Edited: I went to the forum to read why you needed the yen sign and I think the approach I posted wouldn't help. Hope you find a solution to it. (Seems like the hacking process is getting very complicated. I don't really understand what you're doing or trying to do. Sorry that I can't help much. T_T)

The project is still alive.
We have now most custom tools (see here we managed to enlarge sprites).
Thank you for the update. Looking forward to this.
You may have heard this a million times already, but thank you for doing this. Though the language in that image is French (thus making me unable to read it) it looks great. May you succeed in this and later go on to win the internet.

Edge is so awesome.
The first game was awesome.
I laughed so hard in one of the games when he said something like 'would you like some cheese with your whine'.

What better way to start a new year with an update on this project??
It's just a copy/paste of my post in the other forum for Christmas so if you are a follower of the backup board of court records, you don't need to read this.

So here we go:
Well, I wanted to be here with a nice present for you but I failed because life is a bitch and work even more. In the last month my work took me to 3 of the 4 corner of my country (lucky that I was not somewhere near Choky or I would have kicked his ass
wink.gif
). The present would have been a video of the intro of case 1 all translated.

So the answer to the question that people asked in the various forums is yes, we are still doing this for you.

I take this occasion to make an update mixed with some thanks to all the people that have contribuited to this project till now.

Latelly much as been done graphically thanks to the wonderfull work of mrichston...thanks alot.
For other graphic parts, we thanks to Hamster and 6Toushiro9.

HanOnimous is doing a great job collecting the voices for the dub...thanks alot.

BigKlingy, N-forza and Tanaka are doing a fabolous job translating literally and after a re-check of case1 / 2 texts, they will soon start the translation of case 3...thanks alot.

I hope I will hear more from DeMatador/Gerkuman for the localization team soon...thanks as well.
Thanks to Fatalfeline (you are sure missed) as well.

Henke and Hacko are continuing creating tools for make life easier for all of us...thanks alot.
Here naturally a thank to jjjewel for the initial discoveries and Whivel for creating the font editor tool that should be completed soon.

This is probably a Christmas miracle because we are very near to have all names of the game finalized
smile.gif
so thanks to all that have helped out finding this names....thanks.

Some thanks go to Choky and Secretmonster as well even if they are a pain in the ass sometimes (just like me
tongue.gif
) especially for the always present Choky and his expertise on japanese and cross game references and Secretmonster for creating the new font...thanks.

Naturally a thanks go to Tateyuki that is more or less the father that started all this, all the people I forgot in this post and all the people that are showing support in any forum.

So I wish all the best to all of you and all of us as well
smile.gif

Have nice holidays (for who has some) and a nice slide into the last year of the world... let's hope we finish the project before then and that we still will have time to play it at least once

Happy 2012 and good luck

See yaa

I can't wait! I do have two questions though... (They may have been answered already so bear with me)

-Are you using fan names for all of the new characters? I would prefer that to their official japanese names because I would never remember any of their Japanese names. The puns are also fun to figure out. Who knows? It may even become Fanon.

- Are you translating EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY LINE literally with no edits whatsoever? Aren't there puns in Japanese that only work in Japanese? If I said something like: Where do sheep get their hair cut? At the baabaa shop! It's not funny, I know but the point is, is that that joke would not work in any other language. There are also most likely japanese pop culture references that we (and by "we" I actually mean "I") would not get.

Obviously, since you are already partway through translating you aren't going to change anything now, but it would be nice to know.

or if you prefer, for what we bother with the names if we not change/translate/adapt them??

@All:
For making this post a little bit more useful as it is, we are still looking for people for the localization team.
Your job would be to check/adapt/and naturally localize the text that is literally translated (so a english to english and no japanese knowledge needed even if it would be better).
Naturally we are still looking for script inserters that will insert the text in the game with tools created for this task.
Some good hackers that could make the game experience even better as it is would be welcome as well.
Last but not least, voice actors.
Everything else can be found here: http://z11.invisionfree.com/court_records/index.php?showforum=26

Thanks

If you are still looking for people to change the literal translation to a more natural one, I would love to help. I have no real japanese knowledge, but I believe I am able to talk English quite well. I might also be able to insert the text into the game using a prebuilt tool; I know how to use computers effectively and I have some programming experience, but I do not have any previous knowledge of ROM hacking or similar activities, so inserting code manually is someting I cannot do.

And voice acting, Of course :D. Who doesn't want to shout into a microphone and get their voice into an Ace Attorney game. I have played AA Investigations 1 and I absoltely loved it. ^^'

I wonder if they're going to make auditions for the new characters
