There has been little to no topic on these two 3DS games. I recently purchased these two games at a sub total of around 57.99 CND (Nano Assult was 19.99 and Doctor Lautrec was 29.99)
I would like to encourage anyone who going to be purchasing a 3DS later time or already own it to consider try it.
Both Nano and Doctor look great in 3D mode, however I must give it to Doctor Lautrec for fully using 3D from gameplay to anime cut scene.

Nano Assault is just your normal shooter game, however it's not your normal go from A to B and fight a boss or finish the map shooter game.

Nano Assault has 3 set of gameplay and they are:

1) A single cell world, where you have to kill all the enemys within this cell in order to purfie the cell (aka complete the mission). However each cell contain 3 sets of DNA and each stage / cell require a set amount of DNA been collected. In this game mode, you're allow to go anywhere within the cell world ( think it as Mario Galaxy World but much much smaller)

2) A monster cell world, where there a boss that you must face off. After defending this boss, the game will grant you a power up weapon for your use on other stages.

3) Rail type shooter, where your main objection is to get from point A to B and kill a boss at the end.

Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights

Doctor Lautrec is different from any other puzzle games. Where puzzles are not the main forcus of this game but exploration is. The puzzles I encounter so far are the mini sweep type / Spot the different / puzzle pieces / and cross words. With a great voice action and the ability to explore the city of Paris in the game whether it's from doing quests or just looking around. They also have battle system where you summon spirit that contain within treasures you find by doing quests. The "Treasure Animatus" are spirits that protect the treasures from "Treasure Hunter" and in order for you to retrieve the Treasure, you must battle it by using other Treasure Animatus you owned. (Treasure Animatus = Monsters Collecting) and yes they do level up.

Here are the trailers.

Well everyone has their own opinion. I think a lot of people try to compare it to Layton and...that does this title a disservice. I, personally am enjoying my time with Lautrec.

I am tempted by Lautrec, played a little bit of it and it seemed quite good. The only problem I have is that GAME are the only chain to stock it and they are charging £38.99 for it- a good £7 more than any other game. And it's not in their 'Buy one get one free' section- the only game I'd want in there is Shinobi.

Then I really wonder why DL was so badly rated.

The game has few underlying reasons as well as being seen as a layton rip off. It will suffer thanks to this idea, and the trailers didn't help showing him wearing a layton like outfit and saying "ALL PUZZLES HAVE ANSWERS MY DEAR" < not spot on but you get the point.

Anyway I've been interested in Lautrec enough just don't want to put money on it. Usually I can demo (via pirating) before buying a game :S so unsure if will take risk. The battle system just looks to strange :wtf:

Think the battle system as a 1 turn only pokemon battle system with 1 move. You carry 3 main treasures that contain different classes of monsters. The collecting part is what I'm hook on due to the fact I LOVE collecting monsters games.

I'm interested in Nano Assault, but I hope the game has lots of replay. I remember getting Nanostray for the old DS, and it was one of the only games I sold back because it was too short. I love shmups, so I might pick it up when the price is right.

Please didn't dash Doctor Lautrec as just a Layton clone (even if you do, it not like we have that many) because
I think the game has great originally and it is at least pretty fun. ^_^

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't reviewers meant to review it as it's game and not compare it to other games anyway?

I posted my review in another topic, but I want to post it here too. I'm enjoying dr lautrec a lot!

I got it yesterday at bt games for 200 (ZAR south african rands). I love layton games but I think that they are overpriced.

That is why this appealed to me.

There are a few basic types of puzzles to be done, and then the adventuring type thing in between. If you go in store, and ask to look at the pamphlet that comes in the packaging you should get a pretty good idea of what the game is like.

Personally I find it different to layton games in a lot of ways. So far I am enjoying it, I am worried it might get repetitive though, as so far the puzzles have been quite easy.

I like the puzzles where you have to get through a maze and avoid police officers.

Others include a minesweeper type game, blocks that must fit into certain shapes, spot the difference, words to be fit into a crossword puzzle, and a sequencing type logic puzzle where you should guess the missing shape.

There are living treasures that must be "tamed", and there is a hierarchy of types that are weaker or stronger, with various attack and defense stats.

The game is set in paris, around various famous sites. A friend of mine who'd been to paris got quite a kick out of seeing certain places she had been to.

I know this was pretty long, but all in all, I'd recommend the game at R200. And it came with club points, surprisingly.

(I'm stingy about spending 400 to 500 on a game though, hence me never owning a layton game. I'll pay that for mario or zelda though, happily.)

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
