Been hard at work on the game...Here is a quick screenshot of one of the levels.

I have added almost double the areas of the last public revision. I also have also added a lot to the physics of the gameplay, There are new abilities, more hidden passages, and a lot more areas to explore. The way the game is now, there are so many things to find and discover, that you will be constantly anticipating what is coming next, or what may be behind the next door. The game is getting very cool. I am glad I continued here....Would have missed a lot of new things if I had released it early. Don't worry, the release is still on its way, but I guarantee it is worth the wait.

The bottom screen is from Super Mario 3D Land? Did you recreate it or something?

Huh, no it is original NSMB. I haven't bought a 3DS yet. For now the bottom screen is the original. It is a beta, eventually I am going to mod it too. Putting everything into the levels right now.

So what's the tentative alpha date (that you'll completely change because your mad genius will come up with months worth of added material) this time?

Not sure yet, but I sent the beta testers a rev to check out today. I'll see what they say and try and predict a date.

Edit....and for more info on what I am doing right now... I am adding a lot more Super Metroid into the game. The core of the game follows the original Metroid. But, as you go through the game, you visit Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Metroid Fusion, Metroid II, as well as a ton of retro Nintendo games. The levels progress through original Metroid, but flash forward or back through the equivalent areas of the other Metroid series. As somewhat of a time warp.

The graphics are pretty intense. I have maxed out what the rom and the DS can load in levels. Every tile in the game is the correct tile in the original retro games. In a lot of cases, like in original Metroid, I have made transparent tiles with backgrounds to give them a more modern feel, but also not loosing the original feel. The graphics design on this has taken thousands and thousands of hours. I am keeping with the originals to the point of the backgrounds scrolling at the same speeds, and the secret passages in their original locations.

I found a lot of new abilities that were not used in NSMB. They took months to figure out and use well. So there are a lot of puzzles and things to do that you have never seen before. The puzzles are not overly difficult, and I made sure there are no blind puzzles that only I would know how to solve. A lot of them involve exploring areas and progressing like the original game would.

I have also gone through the boss fights and improved them. There are some big surprises in those too.

Anyway, I am heading back to it here. I'll post more screens as I go.

For all others...
It is possible that his hack beats even mine :)

No modesty.
If anything, NSMB3 and NMB would be on a equal level.

If you want NSMB3 to really be the best hack ever (And thus be better than Mario Adventure), you would have to find a way to include the items and game mechanics from the original NES version as well as hack the overworld.

For now, both games are remakes of older games, limited by the current game's capabilities.

Though your hack does have the advantage of having those additional extra levels and puzzle rooms that weren't in the original version and that do pose a challenge.

NMB uses graphics from older games, but is a completely new game in gameplay and progression. I am working on the title screen hack right now. I added a lot of new levels in the last few weeks. Also waiting on one more feature coming out for the editor so I can finish. I have improved all the level graphics significantly over the last couple months, as well as added a lot to the NSMB physics of the game. There are a lot of things in this hack that were not in the original NSMB and are not in any other hack. The last beta is nothing like the game now. That is a very beta revision.

I have a problem. I patch the game, and in my gamesfolder, it appears with the metroid picture. When i start it, the ORIGINAL New super mario bros game starts...???!!! And, curiously, the patched game has the same size like the original game, I thought i made everything right, but it doesnt seems so.

I have been working on the editor a lot to try and get all the features possible out of the sprites in the NSMB game. There are going to be a lot of cool things coming out of all the NSMB hacks soon as a result. My game has a lot of things that you will not expect. New Metroid Bros. is almost done, but I am making sure it is as perfect as possible. All the areas that were kind of so so in my opinion, are being redone. I have added a lot of Super Metroid in...In fact, most of the new areas I have built lately are Super Metroid areas. I have thousands and thousands of revisions that I have not released. I must have played and tested NMB thousands of times as well. Wish I could release it now, but quality, replay value, and smoothness in gameplay are the major focus before release.

It is close. I could have released it a while ago, but the graphics, camera, gameplay, and a lot more wouldn't have been as good as they are now. Besides that, the editor has been improved so much lately,my hack would have missed a lot of features.

I'll get ahold of you SKJ....There are a lot of levels to test. I would appreciate the help for sure. As long as you are not planning another release, until after my final revision is released.:

Alright, SKJ. My current revision is pretty stable. We can play through I think all but 2 areas this weekend (even those I may have ready by then). And yeah, you will get to trip out on some of the things I have done in my levels. Or you will also see what the time has been spent on. Overall though if you are up to helping, I think I can shave a lot of the testing and debug time off my hack. The hardest part as you know, is I can only test for my playing style...
