Sony: It would be undesirable for PS4 to launch significantly later

Isn't the xbox multicore? Didn't devs say that it is the easiest for development?

There's a difference between having a tri-core CPU that works as a single entity and having several SPU's and cores that work separately as specialized units, computing only given aspects of a game. That's a whole lot of extra programming to be done.

Oh yeah, Sony, do it again. Get rushed by the competition into releasing a huge, heavy, hard to develop for machine with hardware failure issues.

The important thing is getting it out at the same time as Nintendo and Microsoft, right? Right?
This is why it is an incredibly stupid idea to buy a console at launch.

That sounds very much like the original XBox if you ask me, much less than the PS3, although it had its share of problems.

And yes, I mean the PS4's from 2016-2017. I'm just kidding, ain't no point in waiting.
The original launch PS3s have fundamental issues. At the time, they were forced by some regulations to use leadless solder on the boards. This caused problems. Under the extreme heat produced by the console, despite the hilariously huge fan inside, the solder could crack or bridge. This is the cause of the YLOD issues.
I own a 60GB launch YLOD PS3.

And yes, original PS3s are fucking huge and heavy.

Edit: I hope nobody's denying how comparatively hard is is to develop for PS3. That's why all Multiplat games on PS3 are 360 ports >.>
Yeah, just like Final Fantasy 13, DMC4, and Vanquish.

Final Fantasy (at least from VII+) and DMC are traditionally Playstation series, ported over to 360 due to demand. Vanquish is an odd exception.

Edit: Do you really have to nitpick a largely true claim just for the sake of it?

Oh, I also missed Dark Souls! Originally developed for the PS3 by From Software (a PS3 exclusive in Japan), and Bandai Namco ported it to the Xbox.

I just like pointing things out. :)

Edit: LA Noire too! Gosh! Zero games!

That's three good titles you have to your point.

How many multiplat games do you think are out there? Do you just enjoy being contrary?

I don't know! There's zero right?
Ah, I understand your confusion. You were looking at the words themselves, not what they meant in context.

You're welcome to read things that way.

The Dualshock 4 will have a 1" 1920x1080 touch screen built into it. They'll find a way.

Hahahahahahaha stealing AGAIN from Nintendo? Whahahaha not so smart.

also it would indeed be smart to release console around Wiiu an 720 time.

You're not so bright, are you?

OT: Sony will do fine. The PS3 had a bit of a rough time, but it has pulled itself from the ashes to become a respectable, well priced system.

Dude I have both ps3 , Wii, my age is 34.

PS3 dusty, has'nt been played on for about 1 year,
Wii it's on EVERYDAY.
The games are just so much more fun on Wii, VC, Wiiware.

My tastes > Your tastes.

I owned a Wii until last month. I owned it for almost two years, and owned more than 20 games. Unlike most people here, I actually went out to buy them. Half of them on the week of release at full price.

Yet, the only game I ever bothered to finish was Sin & Punishment: SS. I didn't find a lot of the games fun. I felt that the experience in some games were completely ruined by the motion controls. Xenoblade Chronicles, along with a few other games, weren't coming into North America. I find Mario games fun, but I'm growing tired of it. While I feel that Zelda games are well designed and produced, I find the experience to be dull. DKCR was not a DK game to me, although Retro did a fantastic job with the level designs. Metroid is as good as dead. If I want VC, I have an emulator. It's not like the money goes to the devs or anything. I sold my Wii two weeks ago. I checked the machine out to make sure it was functioning properly, and it told me the last time I touched it was in May. I don't even recall playing a game on it in 2011, except playing Wii party (Not my copy) with friends.

Meanwhile, I've spent over 40 hours into Dark Souls by itself, which I have owned since October 4th. Recent pickups include Child of Eden, and Uncharted 3. I'm having a lot of fun with them.

*stuff*

Good God this, taste really is subjective.

I've owned a PS3 for over two years and Wii for several months and the Wii just doesn't get played. Even though I can easily pirate the games, I have no motivation to do so as the games lack any kind of appeal to me. The only time the Wii gets used is when my Niece and Nephew come around to my house.

If I was Sony I wouldn't trust IBM again. They sold Sony's PS3 research to Microsoft to make the Xbox 360's (non-slim) Motherboard and CPU.

No, no, no, they sold *their* research that they've conducted for Sony, but that didn't belong to Sony, to Microsoft.

Also, enlighten me, who would be a better candidate for such an R&D operation...?

AMD? :tpi:

The research was a co. done with Toshiba and Sony. The former wanted to sue but a tank size loophole in the contracts with IBM prevented them from doing so.

I would continue to do R&D with them but I would have new contracts wrote to prevent them from selling the research to Microsoft.

If your lawyers are incompetent and prepare a crappy contract that allows the other company to sell theoretically "your" assets, then excuse me, but you have only your lawyers to blame - you can't be butt hurt over IBM just because they chose to cash in on their discoveries. At the end of the day, they did improve the PS3, so their part of the bargain was complete.
