I haven't kept up with the Wii hacking scene for probably over a year now, but I plan on buying Skyward Sword soon. Is there anything I should know to keep my Wii hacks going? I was thinking of just blocking the updates, but I realize that there are probably some files needed to play to game properly (especially for a first time motion plus user). I think I am not a modified version of 4.2.

Are there just some WAD files I need to find, or am I okay updating?

Well, I had the same issue.
I downloaded ModMii, but I first did a sysCheck on my Wii (you can download the WAD from ModMii), imported it on ModMii, and it told me exactly what I needed to download.
It's pretty easy from there on. Just launch the WADs you downloaded from ModMii, and you'll be good to go.

Alright, thanks! I can tell this system check thing will come in handy!

I can't get my head around all this.

I have a launch wii with a wiikey installed and no homebrew channel. I don't think Zelda will work without the latest cIOS - or the ability to use the fix to update the cIOS. Do I need a legit copy of certain games for the hack to work, or will downloaded games work? I need to get the homebrew channel again!

A friend hacked my Wii two years ago. At the time he noticed that some games would have a few crazy pixels here and there but I was playing on a smaller tv and it never mattered. Now that I have a big tv it is very noticable in games like Goldeneye, Modern Warfare 3, and a few others. Some places it doesn't happen but then some it can be pretty bad and about 1/3 of the screen has bad pixels spread out. Does anyone know of a fix for something like this?

sounds like a bad rip of the game. Just re-rip them from the original disc and the problems should go away.

You can also update your softmod using ModMii if you like. This will ensure u are using the latest cIOSs and usb-loaders (some older cIOSs had a bug effecting the ripping of dual layer dvd games)

I don't think its a bad rip since I acquire them by other means. My buddy suggested it might have been a "bad hack" and need to be completely redone but I can try updating some cios's again.

In what version do you have the Wii?
If it's below some version, you can use Zelda. My experience was if you have wiikey, you can use its backup with a saved game to do for the homebrew channel. xflak is right. At least ModMii would do it for you.

Like the photos on this site?

It's nothing to do with what you've got installed, it's a known hardware problem with older wiis.

Yup, that's exactly the problem. Damn, I guess I'm just out of luck since I don't want to send them a hacked wii in... Thanks for the information though!

The latest, 4.3E I think.

Thanks! That really helps.

You can use ModMii to softmod your Wii and get the HBC back.
Thanks for your help! I got the homebrew channel back with the help of your program. It still won't play through the disk channel, but at least I can use gecko OS to run it. Now to figure out how to make it work with my hard drive...

@MADKATZ99,
try using ModMii's usbloader set up guide :D

@AlexanderRonzhyn,
there's no need to update to 4.3. If you want to check for outdated IOSs or other softmods, generate a syscheck report then use ModMii's syscheck updater, it will analyze what is already on your Wii and get you to update only what is outdated.

Hiya folks, von Noobenstein here... I softmodded my 4.3E black wii yesterday, Letterbomb -> installed HBC, BootMii as IOS, IOS236, Priiloader v0.7(r137) and waninkoko's cIOSX rev 21. Of course, this has everything to do with the Skyward Sword, and trying it before my preorder comes in. I've already found out (I think) that this setup isn't going to run it, but that's a problem for later.
Before I even get into USB loaders and the correct setup for TSS, there's a more pressing problem: I've got wii sports resort in my drive, and my disk channel is proposing to update my system software. Up to this point, I was happily coasting along on this Complete Softmod Guide I found, but now I'm scared shitless that I'll brick the damn thing if I try to run any games from disk. Please advise: can/should I update the system software from the disk, and if not, is there a workaround? I don't wanna be stuck like this when I get my hands on TSS this weekend. I have a backup of my NAND, if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Okay, how 'bout I just follow the advice in http://gbatemp.net/topic/313425-preparing-for-skyward-sword/ and use ModMii? I wish I'd known about it yesterday, would've saved a lot of hassle!

Yup, remod with ModMii, should solve your problems. If you still have the disc channel update issue, go in to priiloader (hold reset while turning on your wii), go to system menu hacks, and enable 'block disc updates'.
