Black because I typically custom-skin my DS and black tends to go better with the very few exposed parts of the DS after my skin is applied.

I have Cosmic Black, but if they release the orange 3DS I'll probably try to trade in for that or something. That orange from E3 is so snazzy.

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
