P4 is bad about honorifics but still mostly listenable. P3 dips in and out of outright incompetence on a frustrating basis.

The biggest offender is Fuuka, who takes over as spotter halfway through the game (like Rise in P4); practically every other word out of her mouth is an honorific of some sort, and her dialogue is (for the most part) painfully stilted. And it's not the VA's fault, either: it's Mela Lee, who's also Rachel Alucard in BlazBlue.

But the absolute worst line in the game is delivered by Chidori, one of the members of rival group Strega: when she finds out her Evoker's been taken, her reaction is vomit-inducingly awful. The crazy part is that her VA, Karen Strassman, is also Aigis: while some of Aigis' battle cries are similarly nauseating, she absolutely nails the final scene where Aigis confesses her love for the protagonist. This, FYI, is the sort of scene that English dubs typically never get right. In other words, the same VA delivers both one of the absolute worst lines in recent English dubbing history as well as one of the best lines in English dubbing of all time.

In short, I blame the writing and direction, both of which improved dramatically for Persona 4 (even if they insisted on shoehorning honorifics into the script for no good reason).

Never heard of this before.
Now that I've read up on it a bit, I'm quite excited!
It's too bad more games don't make it outside of Japan.
Thanks to great translators and modders, English speaking people get the opportunity.
I have no problem at all waiting.
Thank you for taking the time to help us play games we otherwise couldn't understand!

October is almost here and that mean's this game is getting closer to being released. Perfect month to,Halloween and all. I'll be done Aliens and Kirby by then, leaving Professor Layton and this filling out the rest of my DS gaming for the year. (Blood of Bahamut my be released to, fingers crossed.) But yeah, then there's not much after that....Devil Survivor 2 next year and maybe replaying Tales of Hearts in English if that long project gets done, but this is a big deal release/translation since there's nothing to look forward to on the OG ds. Maybe I'll start playing the 3DS more finally since at this point I use my DS 10x more and I have a ton of 3DS games to. I can only play so much Zelda and DOA. But Mario 3D is coming so, amen to that to. Haha, sidetracked much. Anyways, awesome stuff, keep the ball rolling til release and thanks for keeping the DS alive just a little bit longer for some of us. /rant

Er, because it wasn't on Page 1? It was on page 2.

Anyways. I hope this is released before Halloween! Would make for a great game during that time XD

I actually didn't see it either, on page 1,2 or 3...which at that point was older threads that hadn't been posted in for a while. And I know this thread had been active so I just assumed it was a glitch. Regardless.....Here's to a release soon. Cheers! *raises imaginary beer mug filled with Dr. Pepper*

In some ways, these translations are better than getting an official release over in the west because I can see them butchering it (cutting and localising). Part of the charm of these amazing Japanese games are there japanese-esque quality and immersion.

I hate to break it to you, but by your standards, the fan translation is "butchered." We have changed things to make them sound better in English, and we're proud of the end result. The title screen now reads "The Nameless Game," just for starters; "Mienai (Unseen/Invisible) Mode" is now "Blind Terror"; the Misaki Hotel is now the Capeside Hotel; and the "Hidamari no Dress" (or "Sunny Spot Dress") is now simply the "Sunshine Dress." The game is still set in Japan, of course, and none of the character names have been changed, though honorifics are absent from the script.

In short, we've done nothing to the game that respectable publishers like Atlus, Aksys, or XSEED wouldn't do. If the official English versions of games like Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (PSP), Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS), and Fragile Dreams (Wii) are "too Westernized" for you, you won't be happy with what we've done with this game.

Thanks for the great work. I can't wait to see this patch released!
About the changes, removing the honorifics doesn't really matter, at least to me. What I found odd is that even though you preserved the Japanese character names and the fact that the game is still set in Japan, you changed the hotel's name. Was that really needed?

Thanks again for your great work!

I was hoping for a translation of this game ever since it came out pretty much, but all I heard was that it was "impossible" for whatever reason.

I didn't know there was a translation in progress until I saw this just now, so I'm super excited! I can't wait for this, I'll have to start bringing my DS with me so I can play it between classes. :3 A big thank you to all of those involved in this project!

It wasn't ever impossible, just improbable due to the way the text was stored inside the ROM. It supposedly required more work to get the text to display properly than to actually translate the game itself and most people didn't want to take up such a daunting challenge.

If you looked at the previous posts, you'd see I've been following this project quite avidly since July/August and cheering them on the whole way
