i've had no problems with the one for review and it was one of the first 50 built, all of which have a crappy shell and a crooked msd slot. what problems did you have?

the ak2i, r4i gold 3ds, and scds2 all work on the 3ds. of the 3 the r4i gold is probably the best buy as it supports the wood firmware and has an excellent build. acekard and akaio is a great combination but the ak2i has a really bad build quality. i've had problems with a few of mine, though they are problems that can be fixed with the paper trick. the scds2 would cost more than the r4i gold but it has more software features (gba emulator, snes emulator, ebook reader, music/video player, slow-motion, fuzzy cheat finder, real time save, etc). the ismart premium also has 3ds support, i’m not sure about the ismart mm. the ismartmm is actually the iplayer and while sold by ismart it is supported by supercard, it would be one to consider if it has 3ds support.

I just got mine in the mail today and it looks cheap. But I wanted to add it to my collection because it is a fanboy product.

Here is the current status of the flash card with the 3DS:
  • If you haven't upgraded your 3DS original FW, the latest iEVO FW/Bootstrap would let you run in both DSL and DSi modes on your 3DS (with prior version of the firmware only DSL mode was working )
  • If you upgraded your 3DS to the recent FW:

    - The iEVO does NOT work with the 3DS in DSL mode

    - The iEVO DOES work* with the 3DS in DSi mode (*=some features like WiFi still don't work in DSi mode)

Note: iEVO starts out in DSL mode, so if you don't have a DSi, then you can't switch your iEVO into DSi mode ( the community is working on a custom boot tool to default the iEvo in DSi mode )

For the DSi, the latest DSi FW update (1.4.3) breaks DSL mode, which means you can't even boot your iEVO on your DSi in order to switch it to DSi mode.

I bought a CycloDS iEvolution, and followed the steps you provided in this review. However, I've run into a brick wall--the red LED starts to flash rather than go out after I insert the micro-SD card. My unit arrived with no instructions whatever, so I know only what you've told me in this excellent review--thank you! I'm hoping you can provide or point me towards additional resources in getting past this problem. (I'd love to try the DS Lite or Phat solution, but I don't have access to either; only my DSi.) Any suggestions?

Thank you,
steveguy

QUOTE said:
9.The red LED should switch off after a few seconds, which indicates that the iEvolution bootstrap update is in progress. If the LED does not switch off, or if it flashes on and off, then there is a problem. This is often simply the result of contact issues with the microSD card, so try again from the beginning if you get such an error.

try reseating the micro sd card a few times. if this fails, you should write to your reseller and request a new dongle.

in the future you may get better/quicker answers by posting in the cyclods sub section of gbatemp.

i posted an update to the review. edited my 2nd post in this thread, so the update follows the review.

to sum it up? -- the ievo has not changed and it seems cyclops has pulled a disappearing act.

Sad, but true, the iEvo never managed to become even close to what the Evo was. It's a good DS-mode cart, but as long as it doesn't work on latest firmware, I don't see the point in recommending someone to buy this, especially for the 3DS. DSi-mode is just too flawed at the moment

ps. A good add to the review, nice to see that even though the cart was a disappointment, you managed to make it from an unbiased point of view.

Hi folks, I managed to get my hands on a pre-owned DSi XL (very good condition, and thanks God, version 1.4E so not updated yet).
I wanted to grab a free Zelda 4 Swords on the market, but I was told I needed to update the DSiWare Market...

Well, I saw the trap here : my console would get to the 1.4.3E version, right ? And my iEvolution is shipping right now.

Here's the question : Should I leave behind DSiWare to make the iEvolution work ? Or can I update (after switching to DSi mode, since I also have a DSLite) and play anyway with the iEvolution in DSi mode ?
Do I lose much functions by staying in DSi mode, or is it just some kind of bonus compared to DSL mode (anything lost) ?

Thanks in advance guys.

Regarding your problem here, I can give you one advise. The iEvo is not really that compatible with all games in DSi mode. You also lose all multiplayer options, since WiFi is disabled in DSi mode. By updating to 1.4.3, you lose the option of DS mode, which has WiFi and quite a good compatibility excluding latest releases (which can be patched to work AFAIK). I'm currently in the same situation as you are in regards to having the iEvo work on the DSiXL, but am leaning to updating the DSiXL for the free Zelda 4 Swords.

If you want to update the console to 1.4.3, change the cart to DSi mode before hand. If you're already on 1.4.3, changing to DSi mode is impossible without a DSL (there is a homebrew for this) or a DSi prior 1.4.3 (ie. 1.4.2 or below firmware). If you find some game that doesn't work in DSi mode, you can always play the game on your DSL (might have to reinstall the firmware via the dongle to enable DSL mode, if it was forced via the homebrew in the first place). Hopefully this helps you solve your dilemma.
