They still have a long way to go... they have to spec the device, make the SD (or microSD) card interface, and so on. Gonna be at least a few more months.

If you want the cart to fit flush in the 3DS slot, it will be microSD or nothing. And I mean that literally ... the way it looks right now it will be nothing, i.e. no removable media at all. Just a bank of flashable memory that you can load one game onto at a time. If this is what the 'crown3ds" turns out to be, then the quality of the PC hardware interface and the client software is EVERYTHING. I still use an EFA-Linker GBA cart, which is relatively easy and reliable compared to some of the old carts, and yet most of you who've only been around for the NDS slot1 carts would still pull your hair out if you had to use it.

Actually, seeing as this is just a programmable jtag controller I don't think that booting multiple games is even possible. To boot multiple games without an exact copy of the device, they'd have to figure out the boot signatures. It will likely need to be completely flashed every time you want to play a different game (in which case they will have to make the onboard memory pretty large). This could easily cost $100.

Try using a X-Rom 512, the thing is you had to use your GBA and transfer the Rom from the PC to the card through the COM port of the GBA talk about SLOOOOOOOOOw as snot. Still use it today in my GBA but i have 2 GBA roms that i love on it and the rest of the space is poketnes.

Looks good but since it only plays one game I wonder what will happen when they pop in a new ROM or if they have to make a special algorithm for each individual game.

Also not to be for or against piracy but personally I've been into this for so long that I definitely can be patient and wait for a flash cart because for the time being buying games is fine but I got bored with buying so that pretty much ceased my 3DS buying habit. Not because I can't pirate the games but because owning about half a dozen games is more than plenty to game on, unless you're one that takes each game and finishes it then I can see the need for many more games on hand.

After the last game I purchased, I was like yep..I'm done. I haven't finished any of them yet, besides I may have played through with one character story mode on dead or alive dimensions..but though I was planning on acquiring star fox, kid icarus, and mario kart and just leaving super mario alone.. that plan is in hiatus except they are spreading out the games now. Kid icarus is delayed til 2012 from what I heard briefly rumored so that puts out a decent spread right there.

I think for me, all I'm really waiting for is mario kart and the others hmm.. all those games are hit titles and always will be available

ah well I ventured off with a rant. just my opinion.. now to go back to playing more mario kart on previous consoles

shouldn't have shown which damn game they used...now Nintendo is probably going to quadruple check the source code in the Splinter Cell 3DS game to see if there is any exploit or backdoors in the code that they can "patch" and quietly release a "patched" market version.

inb4 3DS WAD Installing, just for the record..

Anyways, I'm guessing that this flashcart doesn't have access to the 3DS NAND, SD card or System Menu, though it would be interesting to have pirated games "Installed" like 3DSWare onto the SD Card.

BTW, I always thought that the 3DS would be softmodded. Maybe we can consider this a "Modchip" of sorts, and eventually we'll get a softmod.

Why is no one breaking this whole demonstration down?

I'm going to call it a fake, unless they can provide new video of the following..

Show me the bottom of this specific 3ds so I can clearly see what country it's for.. ie CTR-001(USA) or whatever it is..

Then play a game from a DIFFERENT region.. if it's a JPN model, I want to see ANY US/EURO english ONLY game playing on it.. If it's a USA/EURO model then I want to see a JAPAN region game playing on it! PERIOD! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Sorry but if they can't do this, it's either a 100% fake, or they can't figure out how to run non regional games on whatever specific model the 3DS is made for. Which in that case it's pretty much useless to EURO's who want to play either US/JPN and for US to play JPN/EURO and of course JPN to play US/EURO..

I CALL B.S.!!! We saw this same video from the other group MONTHS ago and nothing surfaced.. really now.. think about it..

FAKE AND GAY.

No, but in all seriousness I hope this isn't true. I don't want devs turning their backs on the 3DS thinking that their software is just going to be downloaded...

Actually, if it works by doing a 1:1 copy, it could still be real while being region locked, since the region is in the header data. I don't see what the region has to with anything about this being real, even though I do have other doubts about the video.

I think you're right , even if they release it as an jtag with program loaded, if they could install it directly to the sdcard , that could cut the price in half because they wouldn't have to install much or any memory on the card

All the people who are saying this is fake because there's no hello world, no menus, no region-free:

IT IS NOT HOMEBREW!

That's why it won't allow you to play games from different region than your console's, why there is only one game at a flash playable, most importantly why there is no menu and "Hello World". It won't allow people to run custom, unsigned code on the 3DS, just pirated/backed up copies of retail games.

Please, find another argument, then call it fake. I'm not saying it is real, but the lack of region unlocking and homebrew doesn't make it fake.

The Acekard isn't homebrew, neither is the DSTWO, or any of the other flashcarts. That said, I can still play One Piece Gigant Battle on them. Pokemon BW in Japanese, too.

Despite the fact that I'm not a fan of this phrase, practice what you preach and :

they can still play homebrew though, if this is real it CAN play homebrew, the homebrew just needs to be "signed"

I forgot to add that I only own a DSi and a 3DS. Pokemon BW is Region Locked (well, the Japanese version)
