Yo, just wondering somethings - I've been using Waninko's Rev17 ever since first softmodding my Wii and have had no problems at all. However, After I updated USBloader I found that SMBB would have a long load on starting, or just not proceed at all with the loading screen still looking like its doing something (I would have to hold the power button to restart and try again - happens with USB loading not with real disc). So I figured it might be related to the cIOSX?
Should I update? what exactly does Rev21 have over Rev17 besides whats already mentioned in the sticky? from what I've read it seems to have created issues like the controller lag and some VC/WW not working?

And if I do update, I have a WD Elements 750GB, so I assume I would have controller lag issue, what .wad or fix do I download for it or is ModMii straight forward with this?

thanks!

Instead of Wanins rev21 you should use the d2x cIOS (v6 or above). Read the thread about it and you will see all the benefits and improvments.

It all depend what you want to do. (playing Wii games from USB, or playing wiiware/VC on emulated NAND)

For USBloader, Rev17 is just fine (except Call of duty (or was it medal of honor?) game which require a cIOS with base 57, and some music games which require base 37+38 or 56).

cIOS rev17 is based on IOS38.
cIOs rev18 to 21 don't have a fixed base IOS, you can decide the one you want to use.

cIOS rev17 is great for installing WAD (older wad managers required base38). You can install IOS236 instead which have the same hardware/software access right.

cIOS rev17 is fine for NAND emulation. (but may have some bugs).

cIOS x rev18-19 allow the user to select the base IOS, but introduced some bugs with NAND emulation.

cIOS rev21 fixed most NAND emulation bugs, (but not all the same good compatibility than rev14 and rev17), but introduced problem with USB loaders (controller lag, mic problem).

That's where d2x enter the scene, it's based on rev21 with fixed and improved features.

d2x can now :
Reload dol without rebooting the game
return to loader is working with all games
improved emulated nand support (like games with incompatible FAT32 characters)

Either
- keep rev17 249/250 base38 if everything is working fine for you.
- install a cIOS d2x in any slot you want (you can keep 249 with rev17 and install d2x v6 in slot 250 or 248, etc., then in USBloader just select the d2x IOS slot as base IOS)

Best choice for d2x are :
d2x v6 base 56 : best compatibility for games and best USB reading speed. You can install it in slot249, it's good for almost everything (except old Wad Managers if you don't use BASE38).
d2x v6 base 57 : for the FPS game which need base57 only.

SMBB lag shouldn't be caused by cIOS rev17 (I have it, and didn't notice any lag with latest USBloader GX release/beta)

lol when i said rev21 i actually meant d2x. Thanks for the feedback, completely forgot about just installing it on 250. I'll probably do that.

I know this is off topic though, but any possible reasons for the SMBB starting load issue? I never use to have it before and only noticed it after updating USBloader.

I don't have any idea right now.
Did you try to revert back to an older USBloaderGX version? if you can find the exact revision which make it slower it could help fix it.

I have some problems too:

Rev 17 and previous: HDD detected
smile.gif
!

Rev18 to latest d2x: HDD not detected
frown.gif
...

I tried different hard drives (laptop, desktop) but none of them can't be handled by rev18 to rev21 and d2x cios.

Did somebody know some "fixed" method to get to work the drives
unsure.gif
? I would like to use d2x version.

Does it work with d2x with ios58 as base?

No, it doesn't... also I tried ios36, 38, 56, 57 as base and none of them worked.

edit:okay,i found a forwarder on the site descriped in the "read me".you have the choice between a classic one that runs on any wii and one that requires ios58, all downloadable as wads.

d2x can play ios-reloading games without rebooting? Man I've been out of the loop...
If you use the latest version plus Cfg or WiiFlow, then yes. Alt Dol is a thing of the past.
biggrin.gif

or USBLoaderGX 2.2 (with altDol option set to default)
That is a really strange place for Block IOS Reload, since it is completely different from the alt dol method. As far as compatibility/stability/features, Cfg is way better than GX anyway, so I still don't suggest it.

Pick one of the following and install it with a wad manager:

GX 2.2 compatibility/stability/features are pretty much the same as CFG. Give it a try.
And the last GX beta release is able to manage emulated saves for wii games.
AFAIK there's a IOS Reload Block option in GX just like in CFG.

yes, it's "block IOS reload" which should be set to default, not altDol, it's me who said the wrong option, sorry
tongue.gif

default = if d2x is detected, then "Block IOS reload" is set to ON, and alt dol is set to "don't prompt for alt dols menu". You may don't know, but GX had an automatic prompt for Metroid Prime Trilogy to let the user select the chapter without going to the settings and change the alt dol manyally each time.
Now, "default" just detect if this prompt is needed of not.

So, like you see, both "block IOS reload" and "Altdol" are connected.
It's just noob proof.

And like Davebaol said, GX is now pretty stable and share the same features as the other loaders (except "sneek+all" patch option not added yet).
But if you still don't want to recommend it, then ok it's up to you. It's just strange to boycott it without trying it first. It looks like you didn't use it for few months. I don't see what is not stable. which features are missing? maybe HDD compatibility issue?

You're right, I exaggerated. I have tried it, but not in awhile. From reports the newer (official) versions are far more stable than before. The unofficial ones were terrible, causing HDD corruption, crashing, and even resulting in full bricks (only one revision caused bricks). I still see far more reported GX issues than Cfg issues, but not nearly as many as I used to.

Btw, you never had to select "alt dol" each time. You can save your setting in Cfg. Later versions actually detect if it is needed automatically and prompt you if there are multiple dols (although that can also be disabled).
