I'll leave the news thread with some random gaming news site as a source for someone else to make, I just wanted to mention that Team Fortress 2 is free to play this week. This coincides with a major update coming on Thursday, June 23rd. There should be a good amount of new weapons as well as the Meet the Medic video.

Valve is going to be releasing info on the update on a daily basis. What has been revealed so far is here. The first day features a full set of new Heavy weapons, a new revolver and knife for the Spy, and a new Payload map, all on Mobster Monday!

Update Summary:

Heavy: Black Market Business

Tomislav: Minigun - +75% faster, silent spin-up time. -20% slower firing speed.
The Family Business: Shotgun - +40% clip size. -15% damage done.
The Eviction Notice: Fists - +50% faster firing speed. -60% damage done.

Spy: The Man of Honor

The Enforcer: Revolver - +20% damage done. 0.5 sec increase in time taken to cloak.
The Big Earner: Knife - +30% cloak on kill. -25 max health on wearer.
The Made Man: ? - A gentleman always has a flower handy to drop on an opponents grave.

Map: Barnblitz - "Prove that you’re 'born in a barn' (secretly in the Mafia) with this Valve-made Payload Map! Show your enemies you can 'hit the broad side of a barn' (be really good at the Mafia) while you make them 'buy the farm' (quit their Mafia jobs and becomes farmers) on one outdoor and three indoor capture points (including a final indoor capture point)."

Personally, I'm most excited about the new minigun. It seems like a better way of dealing with the faster classes and could lead to stealth heavies, which should be interesting to deal with. It's also nice that the Heavy finally gets a replacement shotgun, instead of the food. I'll try to keep this thread up-to-date as more info is released.

Day 2 of the Uber Update was revealed - Timbuk Tuesday!

Update Summary:

Sniper: Lawrence of Australia

The Bazaar Bargain: Sniper Rifle - Each consecutive headshot gives +10% charge per second. A body shot reduces the bonus. A missed shot clears the bonus.
The Shahanshah: Sword - +25% increase in damage when health is less than 50% of max. -25% decrease in damage when health is more than 50% of max.

Demoman: One Thousand and One Demoknights

The Splendid Screen: Shield - +25% fire damage resistance on wearer. +20% explosive damage resistance on wearer. Can deal charge impact damage at any range. +70% increase in charge impact damage.
The Persian Persuader: Sword - +100% increase in charge recharge rate. All ammo collected becomes health.
Ali Baba's Wee Booties: Shoes - +25 max health on wearer. +100% increase in turning control while charging.

The new sniper rifle should really buff the class for skilled players, and the new sword seems like a great alternative (most snipers would only melee after they've taken some damage IMO). The Demoman weapons have a huge focus on melee, which is really where the class has been going for a while. These items are most based around charging than previous ones, so it should be fun to play around with.

EDIT: As pointed out below, the Scout items were apparently also confirmed. The page is here (found by clicking a crushed Bonk! can on the Timbuk Tuesday page).

Scout: The #1 Fan

The Soda Popper: Scattergun - +25% faster reload speed. +50% firing speed. -60% clip size. No random critical hits.
The Atomizer: Bat - Grants triple jump. Third jump deals 10 damage. -30% slower firing speed. -20% damage done.
The Winger: Pistol - +15% damage done. -60% clip size.

Added above, thanks for pointing it out. I don't play much Scout, so I'm not that excited, but the items definitely seem pretty cool. Triple jump should be fun to play around with.

Hopefully we see the Pyro and Medic updates at some point tomorrow; they're my favorite classes, along with Demo and Heavy. Engineer updates are always cool too, as it seems a hard class to really tinker with.

As mentioned above, the World War Wednesday update was revealed! With TWO Soldier packs!

Soldier: The General's Formals

The Mantreads: Boots - -75% reduction in push force taken from damage. Deals 3x falling damage to the player you land on.
The Disciplinary Action: Riding Crop - On ally hit: boosts both players' speed for several seconds. -25% damage done.

Soldier: Airborne Armaments

The Liberty Launcher: Rocket Launcher - +40% projectile speed. -25% clip size.
The Reserve Shooter: Shotgun - +15% faster weapon switch speed. Mini-crits airborne targets for 3 seconds after weapon switch. -50% clip size.
The Market Gardener: Shovel - Deals crits while the wielder is rocket jumping. No random critical hits.

And just to be trolls, they added this Pyro page, found by clicking on a Pyro mask on the whiteboard.

The Detonator: Flare Gun - Alt-fire: Detonates explosive flare. [Possible other effects].

From what I understand, The Detonator is a weapon that was added in beta that many players wanted added to the game. It'll allow explosive flares, opening flare-jumping as a possibility. The downside appears to be that it only mini-crits burning players, while the normal Flare Gun crits burning players, and that it adds +20% blast damage to self (as these are unconfirmed, I left them out above). It'll be interesting to see exactly where this leads.

My quick notes on the Soldier weapons: the riding crop sounds fun as hell. I don't really play Soldier, so the rocket-jumping stuff doesn't appeal to me, but certainly sounds cool. The rocket launcher should be pretty nice too; the speed of Direct Hit with splash damage.

Last update day - The Uber Update! (I'm calling it that, it's the Medic stuff). Note that the site is getting some heavy traffic and has already been down once tonight, so here's a screenshot of the page, just as a backup.

Meet the Medic

Medic: The Clinical Trial

The Quick-Fix: Medigun Prototype: UberCharge increases healing by 300% and grants immunity to movement-impairing effects. +40% heal rate. +25% Ubercharge rate. Move at the speed of any faster heal target. Can't overheal.
The Solemn Vow: Bust of Hippocrates - Allows the wielder to see enemy health.
The Overdose: Syringe Gun Prototype - Movement speed bonus based on Ubercharge percentage - to a maximum of 10%. -10% damage.

The game is also now free to play.

My thoughts on the Medic weapons: I'm not sure if the Quick-Fix will be enough of an improvement. I can see it working against sentries and Natascha Heavies, but a regular Uber or a Kritz might be just as effective. The Solemn Vow's usefulness will depend upon if it's an actual melee weapon or just a passive buff. It could be awesome, but you'd need to be able to quickly relay the info to your heal target, so it might not be effective in a lot situations. Losing a melee weapon would also really suck. The Overdose looks pretty sweet. I do like the Blutsager (?), just because of that awesome heal-on-hit, but the speed bonus could be really awesome when fighting Scouts and getting away from high danger zones.

Whew! This is probably the most work I've put into a thread, but I think it was worth it. Can't wait for this update to actually ship!

Yes, I know, I mentioned it in the post before yours. I made this thread on Monday when that news had not been revealed.

when i try making a steam account
There are tons of problems right now. The game usually doesn't do well after an update, but this is a whole different story, what with all the new players coming in.

You get a limited edition free hat if that's anything.
And since you bought it, your account is now premium.

Well you get a premium account which has more backpack slots (which if you're crafting is a huge huge win). Though yes, 9.99 is 4.99 more than you would have to pay today to become a premium member ($5 in Steam wallet, then buy a 50 cent item). The 'waste' of money is kinda relative
