So, I have two PSPs. One's an old PAL, fat PSP1004, working fine aside from the rather rapidly draining power. Other one's (one of?) the first Slim & Lite models: PSP2004, also PAL, and, unfortunately, bricked. It's been a while since that happened, so I can't really remember what I did exactly. Also, I was like thirteen or something, and I must've Googled something like "1337 PSP hax guide" or something. What I do remember, however, was the name of the software I used to brick it: Chicken was its name, I believe. The instructions included loading an image or something from a memory stick, then having the screen turn green or blue or something. I believe it bricked when I did just that. Now, the two PSPs are old and dusty, and I can't sell either one of them in their current state, as the old one's worn and its battery weary, and the newer Slim & Lite one's flat out bricked. Solution would be unbricking the Slim & Lite, if possible, and buy a new battery for the old one. Could anyone help me out with the unbricking of the Slim & Lite part of the story?

I've considered the fact that this may be a recurring question, but I'm new to these boards, and my ability to navigate said boards is shit. So, if this topic's allocated memory on the forum is useless, linking me to a proper topic/guide would be much appreciated. Hope I'm not too big of a burden.

Thanks,
Glys

If it's an old Slim, you can try to make a Pandora battery and unbrick it. It's should be doable since you have a working Fat.

There's a sticky on the "Magic Memory Stick" and the Pandora Battery.

If your Fat is already hacked running Custom Firmware, DO NOT follow the sticky guide on how to make a Pandora Battery.

Instead, you can go here:

http://dl.qj.net/download/psp-tool-v100.html

and download the PSP Tool program, which you can run on the Fat to turn its battery into a Pandora Battery.

The PSP Tool download should also come with a document on how to make a "Magic Memory Stick" or you can follow the stick posted on this forum.

Remember, this works only with the Fats and the older Slims.

My fat PSP is second hand, so it may have been running custom firmware without me knowing. How can I tell?

>Remember, this works only with the Fats and the older Slims.
"This" being a reference to the guide that tells you how to make a Pandora Battery without custom firmware, or with custom firmware?

"This" means in general. The Pandora Battery only works on older hardware.

You can check to see if you're running custom firmware by going to Setting>System Settings>System Information. If you see M33/PRO-B6/HEN/GEN etc after the version number then it's running custom firmware.

So, that Pandora Battery's basically just a modded PSP battery, which will help me unbrick my Wii? Cool. Also, is the Magic Memory Stick also just the same, but with an MS Duo?

You mean PSP? Yes.

It's a modified PSP battery that puts the PSP into a service mode, which allows you to flash the PSP with a firmware. The Magic Memory Stick is just a MS Duo with some special files to allow it to be read and this is where the firmware will be stored to be read when flashing.

Alright then.

Regarding hacking/modding my PSP; there's two stickied guide threads in the PSP boards that seem rather similar in function: one for softmodding and one for Pandora/MMS.

If you're hack/modding (not unbricking) then I would follow the softmod guide. It's a lot more current then the MMS/Pandora guide.
