Android has really grown quickly in the realm of mobile gaming, especially with the influx of Tegra 2 phones and tablets. Keeping that momentum going, Madfinger (creator of Samurai 2) is currently working a new game optimized for Tegra devices called SHADOWGUN. There will be two version of this game – one for Tegra 2 devices, and one that takes advantage of NVIDIA’s next-gen Tegra 3 processor, the quad-core Kal-El.

SHADOWGUN is a tactical combat game, but I don’t think I can explain it any better than this:

Authored with the Unity development platform, SHADOWGUN combines tactical combat with third person harrowing action, ushering in a new visual standard for handheld gaming. SHADOWGUN puts players into the role of John Slade, a professional bounty hunter in the year 2350. Slade’s mission: hunt down Dr. Edgar Simon, renowned geneticist and former employee of the trans-galactic corporation Toltech Enterprises. Players must lead “shadowgun” John Slade as he infiltrates Dr. Simon’s mountain fortress and fights his personal army of mutants, cyborgs, and genetically-enhanced humanoids. Using state-of-the-art weaponry, ships, and the assistance of S.A.R.A.—Slade’s personal android assistant. The story is written by award winning author Micah Nathan who has joined the MadFinger team as executive creative consultant for SHADOWGUN.

Yeah, that sounds awesome. I know, I know – a description isn’t enough… so here are some screenshots:

The future of Mobile Phone gaming looks pretty... Well, awesome! What is your opinion on Mobile phone gaming? Do you think games of this caliber should be on phones, or do you think people should stick with Angry Birds/ Fruit Ninja esque games for their mobile devices?

Discuss.

On-screen controls suck and will always suck for gaming(exceptions being games like Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies and that stuff).

Also, about that game; it looks pretty, yeah but I've seen pretty games on iPhone and that shiz and the animations are just terrible. They really make the game ugly.

We are not talking about Iphones, we are talking about phones that have yet to be released that will have Tegra 3 proccessors. 9Which are probably going to be over kill on what a phone needs, but great for gamers none the less)

Who said that there might not be alternatives to on screen controls by the time this comes out? Technology is progressing everyday. Who knows what they will come up with in the next year or two.

The PSP Go/Xperia Play is as much as they can do in terms of controls. And I don't think non gaming oriented phones will use that. What else? A peripheral joystick for my phone? No thanks.

Sorry 'bout that, should have just quoted the previous guy.. About the xperia play, It won't hold up in the long run video game wise, it already had outdated hardware compared to other Android devices from day 1.

The sound of mobile gaming sounds nice, but I really can't stick to a game all that long without physical buttons, either that, or most mobile games just bore me, whether I pirate them or not. I bought Zenonia 1,2, and 3 for my iPhone, farthest being Zenonia 2, and have yet to finish any of them. Zenonia 1 bored me right away, probably because I preferred the 2nd one, and I'm not even a quarter of the way through Zenonia 3 yet, and have dropped it for a month already. While compared to my DS and PSP, I not only have finished every game I have ever downloaded, but replay them over and over, part of it being that it's alot more comfortable to play than on a touch screen for hours on end.

I have this feeling that android tablets and phones are going to be like computers.... there are cheap low-end ones and high-end ones and they get outdated in 3 months XD

Odds are Tegra 3 chips will also be marketed towards mobile computers as well and not just phones and tablet computers. I can see laptop manufacturers going away from Intel and AMD in order to use something more battery efficient and high performing in a smaller space so that they can provide more technology in their computers like better batteries, wireless N, better speakers and all of the things that laptops and netbook computers lack but still have performance. Dedicated graphics eat up battery and one would think that a performance based portable computer with a solid state drive, high def screen, keyboard and a good chunk of memory would be better because you wouldn't have to run dedicated processors or graphics cards in order to get good graphics.

I still think it should be on a gaming handheld device....

why dont people understand if they want good quality games on a phone
why wouldnt they put it on a phone that is
A gaming device with the features of a phone instead of
a phone which can play games ... :I
