The cult of Apple is real, according to neuroscientists.
They compared MRIs of Apple fans' brains to those of people who call themselves "very religious" and found that Apple and religion light up the same part of the brain. This means that Apple triggers the same feelings and reactions in people as religion.
BBC highlights the finding in an upcoming documentary, Secrets of Superbrands.
The documentary also likens Apple Stores to cathedrals. "Apple stores often feature stone or other types of austere, simple flooring like a church with products mounted on pedestals like individual altars," writes Inc's Renee Oricchio.
Apple store launches are like religious experiences too. "The scenes I witnessed at the opening of the new Apple store in London's Covent Garden were more like an evangelical prayer meeting than a chance to buy a phone or a laptop," writes Alex Riley and Adam Boome of BBC.
"Inside the store, glassy-eyed staff were whipped up into a frenzy of excitement, jumping up and down, clapping and shouting. When the doors finally opened, they hysterically "high-fived" and cheered hundreds of delirious customers flooding in through the doors for hours on end."
It seems Steve Jobs really is a God to some people.

Personally I love Apple products, but not to the point of making them my new religion.

Steve Jobs is god to some people o.O? WTF?
Scientology = There are aliens on our backs that we can't see and the only way to get rid of them is through expensive therapy.

Worshiping Steve Jobs isn't as ridiculous as compared to this. Hell, Jedi is a real religion.

I don't get the obsession for Apple products. There's nothing special about them.
The brand name. It's basically equivalent to a fashion statement. No matter how you look at it, some people prefer to have what's considered as "In", what's cool and hip and stuff.

Let's pretend there was a Prada bag, and there was another bag just like it for a quarter of the price available at a bargain store that was EXACTLY the same. If the woman buying it had a substantial amount of money on hand and had an interest in fashion, it's safe to assume that she will buy the Prada bag. Why? Cause it's branded. Some people don't buy the products anymore, some just buy the brand.

Makes sense.

Publishers use Macs and get sick of having the piss taken out of them, Apple release the iPod, media goes nuts even though it wasn't the best or first or best value on the market. People working for the media go nuts pushing it down everyones throats, 'caus it's not fair everyone else gets to use real PCs. People listen to the views of people who use Macs on what makes good tech. A religion is born.

He's easy to keep in check. Just ignore it and point out that he's never going to get enough money to buy a 3DS AND a Macbook in 3 months.

I have issues with Apple but its all over pricing. Their products are nice, well made and yeah they need to be a bit more expensive to cover those aluminium unibodies BUT they overprice like HELL!! My laptop is just as good as my friend's Macbook. exact same spec pretty much (mine might actually have more RAM now). The differences are in the keyboard hardware and trackpad (I'll admit they have lovely trackpads). The difference? My Sony E-Series cost £700, his Macbook cost £1400 with a student discount. Is that nice body and trackpad worth double the price? HELL NO! Another example. The RRP on an iPod Touch 32GB is £250, this includes manufacturing cost, tax, R&D etc. AND a very decent profit margin for Apple. The iPhone 4 32GB? £612. That's a £358 difference. I doubt the glass, slightly better display, aluminium, better camera and 3G equipment cost £358. Some of that £358 is extra tax but whatever. I believe Apple could easily sell that phone for £100 less. EASILY!
Do Apple products need to be more expensive? Absolutely, they're a premium product. Do they need to be double the price of everything else? ABSOLUTELY NOT! I reckon my friend's Macbook is worth £200-£300 more than my laptop, not £700.
