To a hacker they can't tell the difference between a Credit Card and a Debit Card. Here in the states, anything that works like a credit card is called a credit card. That's why you see every site that sells shit under the sun ask for your Credit Card number. Not your Debit card number, not your Cash card number...but you can put those in too and it works just fine.
At this point you're just playing a trivial game of semantics.
It's not. I was replying that it's a simple matter of calling the card issuer to tell them of the fraud/loss/stolen card. A new card will be issued.
In the case of a debit card, I'm sure the ACCOUNT NUMBER REMAINS THE SAME, but the card number, chip, pin, and other details someone would need to attempt fraud on your account would be changed by the issuer.
If you don't know, transactions from a debit card debit from an account using an account number behind the chip, pin, charge-card number, and possibly other details.
So you wouldn't have to do anything but change your debit card number on websites that allow you to store your number and details for easy payment.
Actually, since I now remember losing my debit card multiple times, I can confirm the account number remains the same and debits you may have set up on standing order or the US equivalent of direct debit would be unaffected.
