Many of you may have already heard on the rumor mill of extremely heavy stirrings, talking of a possible new Nintendo console. This thread exists in an effort to consolidate and compile as many of the possible rumored tech specs and information we have so far about the alleged new system. It is important to remember however, even with the sheer amount of sources citing all this, we still haven't got any sort of confirmation from Nintendo. So take all these rumors with a grain of salt (or an entire bottle). Until we get any sort of confirmation, ALL rumors about the system (and the system itself remain unconfirmed and are subject to change. I will attempt to keep this thread updated as new rumors are available. If and when the real thing is announced and solid information is confirmed first-hand, a new thread will be created by someone to formally announce the system. If the system and all rumors turn out to be untrue, an update will be posted here to confirm and the thread will be locked. Any, all, or none of these rumors could actually end up being true as far as we know. Some rumors may also contradict one another as different sources say different things. So, with that out of the way, here are the rumors we've heard so far in regards to Nintendo's new console (sources are in parenthesis)-

- Codenamed "Project Café", final name unknown (CVG)
- Formal announcement E3 2011 or before, with a targeted release in late 2012 (CVG)
- Developers such as Ubisoft, Activision, and EA have had the devkit for months (EDGE)
- Controller has 6-inch touch screen, front-facing camera, D-Pad, two bumpers, two triggers and "possibly more," functions as a Wii sensor bar (CVG)
- Conflicting reports on the controller screen resolution, some say it's HD, others say sub-HD (CVG and VG247)
- Controller allows streaming of full games to the device from the console "like a mini TV" (Jim Reilly's Twitter)
- Superior motion controls, better than Move (EDGE)
- First and third party Project Café games to be shown at E3. Not confirmed if there's any playable games (Jim Reilly's Twitter)
- Supports high definition resolution (Game Informer)
- On par with or more powerful than Xbox 360 and PS3 (CVG)
- Custom IBM Tri-core PowerPC CPU, ATI R700 family GPU shader version 4.1, at least 512Mb of RAM (CVG)
- Backwards compatible with both Wii and Gamecube games, along with all peripherals for said systems (CVG)
- Possibly uses Blu-ray discs as the primary media for games (VG247)
- An older comment by Satoru Iwata hints at possibly adding 3D support for future consoles, but not yet rumored by any sources for Project Café (EDGE)

So there are the current rumors stated for Nintendo's alleged "Project Café". We shall soon see whether these rumors and the system itself even exist. This post will be updated as new rumors become available. Just remember to take everything as unconfirmed speculation until an official press release is made by Nintendo.[/p]

Thanks to Terminator02 and Slyakin for the news!

I'm sorry for the double post here, but i wanted to add a personal note here-

I was unsure whether i should create this thread. There exists (at least) two others which i linked above. Also, the formatting is different from normal due to the sheer amount of information and various sources. I wanted to give a more organized and compiled topic of information on the new system instead of having a bunch of new topics posting rumors. Of course, this is also adding to that count, but i was trying to consolidate the news into one single news post.

Will continue to update this topic when new info becomes available, and feel free to add more info and sources. I will add your info to the topic if it's from a generally legit source (not some random guy posting on a forum).

If however, staff and most users feel this topic is useless and you don't want it around, i'll lock or delete it. Thanks to everyone who has posted news so far for this, i tried to give you proper credit and link to your threads as well. Hope you don't mind.

I like this one, all of the information and their sources are compiled into links. Even though these are rumors, it's good to hear. Thank you.

I think this should become the main topic and be updated as new information is released and anyway I think the rumors about the controller are false.. It should have an octo-core CPU and 4GB RAM

This has my approval, if that counts.
Thanks man. I am NOT trying to create this to discount or diss the other threads (i owe them a lot). This is ONLY here for organization and front page attention since the rumors have become pretty major and rampant. I like being organized, so i wanted to create a single thread on the front page with ALL the rumors (or as much as i can find that seem from somewhat reputable sources).

I'll do my best to keep it updated. I'm still somewhat busy until around May or June, but i'll post here whenever i can and whenever new info arises and i happen to be here. If for whatever reason other staff need to edit my topic, close it, or whatever, feel free to do so if absolutely necessary. Not trying to cause any trouble.

Satoru Iwata also mentioned that the Wii's successor might be 3D-compatible, but concluded that the adoption rates of 3D televisions should increase to at least 30% first.

Thanks, i've added it. I recall hearing that myself, not a bad hint either, given the popularity of the 3DS now. Seems possible enough. Though you would think the rumors would have mentioned it due to it being rather major. I'm going to post it, but stress that it hasn't been specifically linked to Project Café.

Someone on IGN made a mockup of what the controller will look like given the present rumors on how it will be-

WTF the 3DS doesn't support HD but the Wii 2 controller does?
Wow, this console is gonna be epic.
I wonder why theres a front-facing camera? (I guess for skype...) And, whats its resolution?

It's actually quite unlikely that the touch screen on the controller is HD. Several other sources are conflicting this statement. No clue about the camera resolution. Probably pretty high though since the system is said to support HD.

Well, Nintendo threw everyone a curve ball when they introduced movement-based games. Maybe they have something totally different than what we are thinking up their sleeves.

Virtual reality? More realistically, face-covering glasses you wear that alter the reality around you?

Am I the only one who thinks this is all so far fetched and ridiculous that it's unlikely that more than 1% of it is even remotely true?
A lot of these just seem like ideas somebody thought up for as a joke that got out of control.

Edit:
Think about this; a touchscreen, on a giant ass controller that is just a culmination of every modern controller to date, that supposedly interacts with a system that is just supposedly a culmination of a bunch of different current gen console specs. I just can't take any of this even slightly seriously.

I like the idea of a single topic, it will prevent new topic creation for every new rumors.
Hopefully we will stick with only 3 open topic for the moment.

About the controller :
- has a motion sensor?
- can transfer data?
- Has touchscreen?
- Has a 3D screen ?

let me guess .... a 3DS as a controller ?
rofl.gif

Though, Infra Red is not a good idea to transfer data, it's like going back few years ago. bluetooth would have been a better solution.

The controller gives off the thought that maybe for some games you will be able to use your 3DS as a controller, other than that cant wait to see how this turns out. I remember when everybody was going nuts over motion controls and how it was going to work for the wii, i'm sure nintendo knows what its doing.

of course it's "on par" or better than all current gen consoles, it's next gen.

a screen controller kinda conflicts with motion controls, I don't see you tossing your lcd screens around the room
