You're partially correct. G/S was originally released on GBC/SGB hybrid carts, allowing compatibility with the older GBs, limited color on the SGB, and full color on the GBC. You're right about Crystal being GBC-only, but G/S was never produced on GBC-only carts. And the GBC could be considered its own console, considering the amount of exclusive titles it had (compared to the DSi).

Oh, and that reminds me, you might as well expect Gray to be DSi-exclusive.
i didn't know there was such a thing as hybrid carts, since most of my older pre-GBC GB games have limited color when played on GBC.
when i said G/S were released on GBC carts, that was a bad choice of words. i should have said they were released in GBC boxes, and advertised as GBC games, even though they were on the same glittery brown/gray GB-shaped carts, only after crystal version was released.

Well this marks the ds's near death.
Because one game isn't getting localized?
Many, many other DS games don't get localized, this doesn't mean the end of the DS.

EDIT: Well done for linking to your own post.
They'll get as much money for the game if they was to release it for the DS. Why?
Backwards compatibility.

Can't you fix that with a button press? Start + Select or something like that

being a previous ds lite owner then trade-up to a dsi payed 75.00 out of pocket.. last week traded in dsi and 7 wii games with the tier promo and my gamestop card..... total out of pocket for 3ds was 26.35 .......so i had to get ssfIV.... and i still have my acekard that is now working on my 3ds... I am going to go out on a limb here and say that every person who bashes the 3ds OBVIOUSLY has not tried it yet.... cause you can play your shity ds games and it will emulate ALL previouse versions of its former self..... if you are holding out it should only be for the 3dsXL otherwise you are living in the past....cassette . vhs. ect. have fun(as he walks off holding amazing new System in hand laughing at ignorant child ds lolololol have fun peace)......have fun ima go do some crazy 3d shit now

I voted for dying. I got the 3DS and it's out there now so it's going to die, it can't be helped. The system has had I think a 5 year run or so and that's pretty good. I'm finding you can get quite a few quality missed DS buys now from $5-15 used at retail/in the wild too which is fantastic.

I picked up Orcs & Elves for $5 yesterday. I sold it for a profit some years ago and wanted another pass at it and I forgot how fun it could be.

Sorry to hear you got burned so badly Demonstryde by those ass monkeys at gamestop as that value is a scam. 3 weeks before the 3DS since I used my DSi so gently and never removed the other contents of the box I sold it like new to a college dude for $115.

I did that and then I hit Toys R Us on launch day as they had a buy 1 get one 50% off sale on DS games so I got 4 games at the price of 3.

Since I have been selling off old games and flea market pickups in the end none of it cost me a dime.

Enjoy the system as it really is fantastic.

In terms of getting new releases? Yeah it's dead.

In terms of still being a valid system to buy and play? It's alive and well. It has tons, and tons of games.

Honestly even an NES/SNES/etc isn't dead. They don't get new games, but the epic ones they have keep them alive and well.

Well shops all around the world are reporting that they have loads of 3DS still in stock. The current line-up of games seems to be generally taken as disappointing. There seems to be a general air of apathy, both between people who bought one and people who people who haven't and aren't planning to (there's even an article on Destructoid about people who are already bored with it).

For those reasons, I don't really see it as troubling the lifespan of the DS too much. It has such a huge install base - nearly as big as the PS2's - and is presumably far easier to develop for. It reminds me of the early days of the PS3 when it sold like crap and the PS2 had better games.

They have a lot in town because it's a known fact Nintendo shipped and over stock of systems and games to retailers. Learning from the crap over Wii and DS shortages they held back to pump a large mass of stuff to the stores. The 3DS is currently selling faster (so they say) than any of their previous hand helds in the same time frame at least in the US. Considering Nintendo has been historically the only one not to manipulate figures when talking about sales (sales sold vs ms/sony with units 'shipped' faking being sold) I'm inclined at this point to believe them until some third party data collection company says otherwise.

They're damned if they do or don't. Bitch when there's a shortage, bitch it's a flop when there's stock on the shelf.

Yes, then the screen becomes normal looking, but it's very small. It's like the black bars are enlarged and they are on all sides of the screen. In short, it's even worse.

Many stores are saying it's not selling - major stores too. The UK launch held in London only had 200 people turn up; that's in a city of about 9 million people.

Gameboy upgrades to gameboy color to gameboy advance.
Ds is a different gen. It upgrades to dsi and 3ds.

In my opinion, its still the same DS with improved hardware, a 3d screen, an analog
slider, improved wireless and online. Looking at the games, oh! Remakes with awesome graphics!
(Well except MGS and RE). Its not a new generation because its only improving on the flaws of
the current/previous.

Aside from 3d, what else can make the 3ds a next gen console??

dont forget about the homebrew scene that keeps the ds alive, for more future programming while the 3ds doesn't, and has updates that block cfw, homebrew and flashcarts.
