I have what i believe to be a virgin wii. When attempting to perform the smash hack. It does not complete. I went to erase the system memory and it just hangs. doesn't ever complete? Is there anything i can do to get this unit to mod? It is on 4.3u if that helps. oh and going to the internet settings locks the unit up.

Have you tried Formatting the wii?

It just locks up when you enter the internet settings? does it give an error or anything?

I did the memory erase/format that when it acts like it doing something but never finishes. as for the internet, no error messages at all. The system still plays games from disk? so I dunno what to do next. (I hear someone now saying sell it on ebay and buy a new one.)

I had this same problems with a 4.1U Wii. I tried a bunch of different things, but in the end what fixed it was loading up my New Super Mario Bros. disc (it has the 4.1 update). The disc channel prompted me to update, which I did and all issues were resolved. Good luck!!

I didn't think I could update either since the Wii I was trying to mod was on 4.1U and the highest update I had access to was also 4.1U from the New Super Mario Bros disc. But as a last resort I tried it and to my surprise it prompted me to update and once I did all the issues disappeared. I thought the Wii I was trying mod was a virgin as well, but once I had all the issues sorted out I used MMM to check the IOSes and cIOS 249/250 were installed along with bootmii IOS. So, apparently someone else had tried to mod it at some point and screwed something up in the process. I don't exactly know what was wrong, but I do know that whatever it was the 4.1U update detected and corrected it even though the Wii was already on 4.1U.
