Hardware 3DS can run the unreal engine, say ubisoft.

Umm... no.

Infinity Blade: $6
iPhone piracy: Rampant

Average (3)DS Game: $40
3DS piracy: Impossible, for now.

Pirates was not the correct answer, nor was piracy anything to do with my idea.

Companies perceive Nintendo systems nowadays to be "family friendly" systems. Which is why they're the butt of all the shovelware this generation. I haven't seen many companies drop a system because of piracy anyways.

And I wouldn't seen iPhone piracy as "rampant". I see plenty of people with jailbroken iPods but hardly any of them actually pirate games for it.

The $6 vs $40 argument is still valid. Much more profit per sale.
Plus they'll be begging to put hardcore games on it as soon as people see how great Resident Evil is. (I haven't played it myself, just assuming.)

Because everyone wants the mediocre multiplayer mode of the last two Resident Evil games shoehorned onto a handheld. Sounds like a fucking great idea.

Perhaps the whole "the games are cheaper" argument helps as well. But I'm saying that they wouldn't even bother developing an iOS game or taking the time to port UE3 to the system without thinking they'd make a profit from it.

I think it's a safe bet to say that the 3DS is incapable of handling everything that the latest Unreal Engine is capable of, but I also find Epic Games unwilling to trim down their engine so that the 3DS could handle it. Their statement of "the second Nintendo releases a piece of hardware that can run our engine well, we'll be on it like water on fish" just sounds to me that they don't want to be the ones making the changes. They want others around them to do it. For all we know, their engine isn't as optimized as it could be, so rather than optimizing it, they have others throw out more powerful hardware to make up the difference.

Capcom trimmed down their MT Framework to get it running on the 3DS, and while you could argue that the MT Framework isn't as powerful as the Unreal Engine, at least Capcom spent the effort to trim their engine anyways so it would work.

He could have meant Revelations. Infact, I'm quite sure he did, considering Revelations has the better graphics.
And, we still don't know much about Mercenaries, such as all the characters, weapons, upgrade system, levels. It's actually possible to make a full game out of the Mercenaries minigame, you know.

There's more than one Resident Evil game coming out for the 3DS? Wtf?

I've never played a Resident Evil game for more than 20 minutes (that 20 minutes was spent being terrible at RE5), so I'm just assuming it's gonna be good because everyone seems to want it. I'm sure not gonna buy it.

If RE5 was the only RE game you've played, then I suggest you try out some of it's predecessors. The Revelations game is meant be faithful to it's roots by how the game involves you, if I understood it correctly.

It doesn't really matter, Resident Evil is a shit multiplayer game. I mean the co-op in Resident Evil 5 wasn't terrible but it basically was shoved down your throat. You needed another person to actually enjoy the game since the AI is as dumb as a lump of bricks. But it doesn't matter how much weapons or characters are in the Mercenaries, it's just a bad idea.

And for Resident Evil 5's sake, it was only really bad because of the co-op. As I said before, it was shoved down your throat and you either had to play with the mediocre AI or a friend, so basically with a friend. Plus the game is like 5 hours long, while I spent at least over 20+ hours beating RE4.

I don't know if the 3DS is as "powerful" (nice relative term -_-' somehow reminds me of comparing a x GHz Intel to an AMD cpu) as the Wii, but it seems to have at least more graphic "features" like e.g. normal-mapping. I'm pretty sure it also has more than twice the memory (64MB against 24MB if not mistaken).

Anyways, the small screen and alot smaller pixels (I love small pixels, 1920x@22" instead of 24" anyday) make it look a lot better in any case ... for most of us any way, some like big pixels -> DS XL.

Personally I don't care much if some bloatware engine can run on a handheld. What is the added value? More console-like games? Personally I like the DS mostly for those rare gems that "couldn't" be released on consoles anymore ... like "good old" RPG's and "2D-style" platformers. More the map than graphics, I love those Castlevania's and Metroids and "New Mario Bros" just looks awesome. Can't wait for such game being turned into 3D (graphics, not much into the view yet). I thought Metroid: Other M was really awesome playwise (leveldesign could obviously be a lot better/more interesting).

-my 2 cents ...
This..
I don't see the point of playing unreal engine 3 powered third person shooters on 3DS. There are plenty on X360/PS3 and PC.
I actually had wished 3DS would not be powerful. I for one prefer 2d Professor Layton not 3d models. (see mark of miracle)

I liked Resident Evil 5.
Then again, I only played it when my friend would come over for LAN.
I can agree that Resident Evil 5 could never hold a candle to Resident Evil 4 (and especially the earlier Resident Evils), but still, it was fun.

But, about Mercenaries, it really does depend on how much they plan to add to the game. Resident Evil 5's Mercenaries was great fun with a friend, but it lacked depth. If they add lots of depth to it, it could be an excellent multiplayer game.

Elements such as experience, weapon unlocking, character customization, perks, etc would be great.

However, I can understand that the console Mercenaries is underwhelming as it is.

Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil Mercenaries 3DS

Back ontopic, I think the 3DS is more than capable of running the Unreal engine. However, it's obviously going to be modified and somewhat downscaled. There's no point in running an engine that was completely intended for larger screens and PC/Console systems.

Weapon unlocking and a skills system have been confirmed. There will also be missions besides the standard "kill as much shit as you can within the time limit".

Mercenaries 3D will be more than just the minigame from RE 4 and 5
