I'm trying to update my mum's iPhone 4 which is running at 4.1. I've been trying to restore it because my mum doesn't want it to be jailbroken. I know jailbreaking is a necessity but she just doesn't want it (when she was on a trip her iPhone crashed so she visited the nearest Apple Store and they found out it was jailbroken). When I try to restore it, this message pops up:

The iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build.

I'm not that knowledgeable with things beyong Cydia. I checked the saved SHSH blobs and they are: 4.1, 4.2.1 and 4.2b3. Am I missing something? I've also got an iPhone myself but I'm waiting for an untethered 4.3 jailbreak. I've also got the same saved SHSH blobs. Does this mean I won't be able to update to 4.3 soon? The only difference is that my iPhone is running on firmware 4.2.1.

Would appreciate all the help. Thanks!

If you're updating to the current firmware (which you are, 4.3) don't use Tiny Umbrella, just update normally through iTunes. Use Tiny Umbrella if you want to restore to 4.1.

That's the problem; it doesn't work. The message written in bold in my original post always comes up when I attempt to do so.

Look up a guide for booting into DFU mode and restoring it through iTunes.

And next time leave your mother's iPhone the hell alone. She should ground you for screwing with her stuff.

I'm 19. Why would she ground me for something she allowed me to do? Heck, why would I be grounded?

Find a custom firmware and try to update it through there then import it through iTunes. Or try a different jailbreak? But the DFU should work.

What jailbreak did you use anyway?

Can you guide me about CFW? I don't know much about it. Oh and I used the limera1n jailbreak.

Did you edit host files?

Since when using TinyUmbrella you have to change the host files for it to work.
And if you don't change it back it will cause problems.

I have no clue about host files either. I'm a complete noob with this. I only used TinyUmbrella for saving SHSH blobs and to kick it out of recovery. No knowledge beyond that.

QUOTE(Dter ic @ Mar 20 2011, 04:48 PM) download 4.2.1 restore to that then update to 4.3
I'll give that a go later. Gonna go get a haircut first.

^ the host files is modified automatically with newer versions of Tiny Umbrella. So if you want to downgrade, open it, press start TSS server, open iTunes, right click restore and chose the 4.2.1 ispw that you must download before. After that, try updating normally to 4.3.

Is Limerain a tethered jailbreak? I know blackrain is. Hmm.. If all things fail, try re-jailbreaking using Spirit and then restoring.

As for CFWs, they're all over the net. I forgot which one I'd recommend using lol.

Sry for the late reply. :[
