Modmii works great but I ran into a snag with the usb loader portion"

"*cIOS249 rev18 or higher required to use Hard Drives Formatted as FAT32 "

I cannot seem to find this after running through the wizard. I do have my 1TB wd elements drive as fat32 and it is on the compatibility list.
before I found modmii I used another giude on the configurable usb loader site and end up innstalling cios249 rev17, not sure where to look in modmii to update this or even install it :/

Did I miss a step ?

Thanks for the great program!

@thewz,

You should have installed them during the install WADs step.

Your unique list of wads to install are as follows:
...snip...
* cIOS249[56]-v21d2x3
* cIOS250[57]-v21d2x3

Cheers

249, 222 and 14 others failed to install so I went through you guide again and reinstalled ios236 Using IOS236 Installer from the beginning. I didnt take the first time for some reason. Now everything seem to work and all wad's installed. USB loader loaded and copied my epic mickey to the drive!

Thanks again!

@thewz,
it's all good, installing cIOSs used to be such a relatively time consuming process, now the cIOS install instructions is just adding a WAD to the list of WADs to install, so I can see how it could easily be accidentally overlooked

@ketufe,
I don't think any of the text displayed has changed since v4.4.9, so I can update all the code without having to translate anything, but if anything comes up I'll send u a PM! Thx!

I am going to be modding a brand new 4.3 Wii very soon. I will be using Smash Stack to install bootmii as IOS. I have some questions about things written on the guide that ModMii wrote up for me.

-The guide reads "Don’t ever accept a new Nintendo update without first googling to see if it’s safe. The last update (to 4.3) was released in late June 2010 and is NOT safe to accept." But that is the firmware the Wii came with. (Or will come with, since I don't have it yet.) What do I do? Should I worry?

-It reads "If using a Forwarder Channel, just save the boot.elf/dol from the app you want to load (ie. SD:\apps\hackmii_installer\boot.elf or SD:\apps\MMM\boot.dol) to the location used by your SPECIFIC Forwarder Channel (ie. SD:\apps\usbloader\boot.dol). Then start the channel and the Hackmii Installer will load allowing you to reinstall the HBC. Note, if your forwarder channel only loads dol's and not elf's, launch MMM's boot.dol, then use its "App Manager" to load the Hackmii Installer." What is a forwarder channel and how do I know if I'm using one or not?

-I noticed the part about the possibility of needing to reinstall the HBC if certain conditions are met. The step to doing so is listed after other steps about installing a bunch of other things. If I need to reinstall it, shouldn't I do that BEFORE I proceed to use it for a bunch of things in the guide?

-What are WADs for? I have a rather long list of them since I selected all of the extra features options. And these feature options look like things that should come with the Wii already. (Ex "Shopping" or "News".) Why do I need to install them again?

-When it talks about Wii Backup Manager, it mentions this step: "To copy ORIGINAL Wii Disc's, insert the disc into your Wii and... - Launch Configurable USB-Loader, and hit the plus sign '+'." Do I do that from my computer with the USB Hard Drive, or do I do that from my Wii?

-Same question for this step: To Configure/Customize your USB-Loader, use the Configurator for Configurable USB-Loader found here: *snip*(file address on computer)". Do I run the Configurator from my computer, or from the Wii?

-If I want to completely undo everything and return my Wii to factory settings, how would I go about that?

-If my Wii bricks, how do I use the NAND to fix it?

Thank you, goodnight.

P.S.: Also, before using ModMii to help me out, this is the process I came up with. Can someone describe the differences between the way ModMii taught me to do things and the way I worked on myself? I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

the "never accept official updates" is the news that can be released, cuz u can lost something or lose softmod

@HBC
if your wii is 4.3 it alread have the ios58

@wads
wads are the files to make channels (since virtual console until media players...)

@unistall softmod
u have no reason to undo, and if u wanna just google it (not remember now how to do but is not hard)

@brick
u cant restore with bootmii as ios, just with boot2 or priiloader (with bootmii u can restore in any situation until i know)

@last question
this is from far the easiest softmod way and secure

I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I only understood like, half of that. Not because of the complex terminology, but because of the grammar. Or rather, the lack thereof. Though I appreciate that you're trying to help. Really, I do.

Now I'm going to reiterate the questions that still have no answer. Not because I'm trying to be rude or anything, but because now that my previous post has been addressed, it will unlikely be noticed by anyone again. It's just forum physics.

Also, what exactly do you mean "You can't restore with Bootmii as IOS"? If that's the case, why do they still recommend I make a NAND backup? And how am I supposed to undo a bricking if I can't restore? There is no way in Hell I'm going to attempt to softmod a $200 piece of equipment without a safety net. I can only pick ONE console tomorrow, and I won't be able to get another one again for a while. Could I use priiloader to restore it? Tell me there's SOME way to restore it!

I haven't updated my Wii's softmods in forever so I'm going to redownload this.

Question though.. I have a problem with my USB HDD. The loader refuses to load if my SD Card is inside my Wii. Is there a possible setting that I screwed up last time?

I'm about to update my girlfriend's 3.3E with this tool, but I have a few questions:

- why does the tool's wizzard say 4.1 is recommended and not 4.2?
- I already installed IOS58 (through some installer i found on wiibrew.org). Do I have to leave this IOS out or something when using ModMii?
- will the Miis (stored in the wii remote?) still be available if I download the channels? (I think my girlfriend will be pissed off if her Miis are gone, so I'm trying to be extra carefull with this).

Oh, and thanks for all this software, and the other interesting stuff on this site

Most USB loaders first look on the SD card for the config files, if the USB loader finds some files or folders, it tries to start from SD first. Probably this is your problem, advise is to check the SD for those files/folders and delete them on the SD card.

@Zesu-chan,
WADs are files that can be installed to the Wii, they can install system menu's (what u see when u turn on the Wii), IOSs (like different 'drivers' required to run anything), cIOSs (custom IOSs), channels, etc. If u went nuts downloaded untested wads from the net, its possible they can brick u, but all the WADs in ModMii are safe if used properly, so read the instructions. I'm not sure what channels u r referring to, but u can use ModMii to update your internet channel or shopping channel etc., if u don't need to update them, then don't tell ModMii to download them

If u have bootmii @ boot2, u can access the bootmii menu immediately when the Wii is powered on, so u will be able to recover from almost any kind of brick. If u have bootmii @ IOS installed only, u can only access bootmii via the homebrew channel, so that's not much protection by itself, but if u also install priiloader, u can access priiloader before loading the system menu, and then be able to launch bootmii @ IOS and do a nand restore or w/e to recover. Basically, bootmii @ IOS is only helpful if u have priiloader also installed. And that doesn't offer as much protection as bootmii @ boot2 because u can still accidentally "uninstall" priiloader leaving u with no means of accessing bootmii if something on ur system menu gets corrupted. But regardless of what kind of bootmii u have installed, if u have a nand backup than some1 with an infectus and a brain can recover any wii as long as u have a nand backup. DeadlyFoez is awesome at infectus repairs. Anyways, basically if u follow ModMii's instructions to the letter and don't do anything stupid, u will be safe, and probably won't even need to make use of brick protection. Seriously, if u do everything right, u may not even need to EVER do a nand restore.

@Bulloch,
-4.2 is the same as 4.1 except with more anti-piracy protection, the same applies to 4.3. U can do w/e u want, u can be on any system menu with a modded console, but there is no benefit of 4.3/4.2 over 4.1
-just do w/e ModMii says, even if u install IOS58 twice, there's nothing wrong with doing that, but it makes sure u don't skip installing something by accident
-u won't lose any Mii's

LMAO! Let's see if I can make a single batch file larger than 1MB! lol!
