Just a quick question. If I wish to use my external hard drive to load WBFS and cISO games as well as using it as what an external hard drive is used for, should I select using both FAT32 and NTFS partition? I currently don't have my external hard drive formatted right now so there's no partition in it atm.

Btw, my external hard drive requires two USB connection because it's a Vantec drive enclosure. Would that pose a problem?

You can create a FAT32 partition about 1 GB for the USB Loader and the covers.
And a second partition NTFS for the games.
You can use Wii Backup Manager for putting games on your hard drive.

You only have to use one USB connection, it should work.
The second USB connection is only for older computers with USB 1.0

So I can have a 3rd partition for my normal everyday external hard drive uses then correct?

I tried testing on my computers and it requires two USB connections or it won't read the drive correctly. Had I known this, I would've bought a proper external hard drive and not get my Vantec drive enclosure.

FYI, FAT32 can be used for everything except storing single files larger than 4 gigs (limit doesn't apply to Wii games as they can be split in parts). So unless u use the hard drive to save incredibly large video files, you should be fine with a single FAT32 partition. I find its easier to manage my files this way, you don't have to worry about running out of space on your Wii partition or your personal use partition.

Also, re your hard drive... not all drives\enclosures are compatible, did u check out the compatability list? If its not on the list, the only way to know for sure if it will work is to test it out. You can try using a standard mini usb cable to connect it to the Wii (instead of using the cable it came with and only plugging in one USB) and see if that makes a difference (you can even test that on your PC). Alternatively, you can just plug both usb cables into the Wii, make sure the thicker cable is plugged into port0 (the bottom port near the edge) and the thinner cord (used for additional power) is plugged into port1 (top port).

Good luck!

But NTFS is more stable isn't it? And NTFS should be the "proper" partition type to use normally isn't it? I'll give it a try this weekend with the FAT32 partition like you suggested, then see if I keep it or change it so it has both a FAT32 and NTFS partition

I didn't even know about one cable being thicker than the other till you mentioned it just now lol.

ModMii for Windows
Version 4.5.0 Released!

by XFlak

Download ModMii Installer Here

French release to follow

See first post for more info.

4.5.0 Changelog
  • Added Smash Stack exploit for PAL and Korean Wii's.
    Thanks to everyone who contributed to this exploit, especially giantpune.
  • JAP users can now also choose to use the Return of the JODI exploit
    as it has been recently re-released to work properly.
  • ModMii's HackMii Solutions now instruct users to install IOS30-IOS36
    in addition to IOS58 in order to prevent the HackMii Installer from
    freezing under certain conditions.
  • d2x cIOSs have been updated to v3 and now also support base IOS58.
  • Added d2x beta cIOS support.
    Constructing beta d2x cIOSs will be a lot easier going forward.
  • Added a means for ModMii to partially update its download database without
    requiring an entirely new version of ModMii to be released.
  • Simple IOS Patcher updated to v1.12 and other minor changes.

Also note that I updated the ModMii Installer to v2.3 for both the English and French versions.
It should now find the desktop location under all scenarios.

Hi there.

I just used the latest version of ModMii (this amazing piece of software - or script for different pieces of software - AMAZING anyway) to download the files to use on a virgin 3.3E Wii.

This Guide was generated using the following parameters:

* Wii is currently a virgin (un-modified)
* Current firmware is 3.XE
* Desired firmware is 4.1E

* Download Photo Channel
* Download Internet Channel
* Download Weather Channel
* Download News Channel
* Download Mii Channel
* Download Shopping Channel (and IOS56)

* Download Extra Brick Protection
* Update active IOSs

I still have a couple of quick questions:
1. I got files cIOS249[56]-v21d2x3.wad and cIOS250[57]-v21d2x3.wad to be installed as cIOS, but I was wondering if these are beta versions or not. Are they?

2. In step 4, when all the WADs in the wad folder are selected to be installed, I wonder if for example my system menu update to 4.1 will be the first to be installed... Or the order by which these WADs are installed don't matter? Or does MMM know which order of installation to use? I never used batch installation of WADs, that's why I'm wondering...

3. In step 5, what version of Priiloader is installed and what hacks.ini file is copied over the SD card?
I've had some freezes on another Wii before when Priiloader was upgraded last time because of hacks.ini file, so now I'm always a bit concerned when it comes this.

4. In step 6, what is the purpose/advantage of re-installing HBC to run over IOS58 (in case it isn't already)?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

No, they are not.
That's the d2x v3 final, today I'll update the official d2x topic?.
That's why I asked, because I first checked the topic and there was no mention to v3...

Thanks a lot.

As davebaol already said, they're not beta. Dave and I coordinated the release of d2x v3 final to coincide with this ModMii update

All that matters is the the system menu IOS (IOS60 in your case) is installed before the system menu. And MMM installs the WADs in alphabetical order, so all the IOSs install before the System menu because "I" comes before "S" (In the 4.4.2 update I had ModMii rename all the system menu wads so they started with "S" instead of a number for specifically this reason)

3. In step 5, what version of Priiloader is installed and what hacks.ini file is copied over the SD card?
I've had some freezes on another Wii before when Priiloader was upgraded last time because of hacks.ini file, so now I'm always a bit concerned when it comes this.

v0.4 is installed, its the last stable version of priiloader that uses the older and much much safer installer. The hacks.ini file is a universal one (ie. it includes all the available hacks for all the system menu versions), it was first made by da_letter_a and then later modified by myself. It's been used/tested extensively so u have nothing to worry about

4. In step 6, what is the purpose/advantage of re-installing HBC to run over IOS58 (in case it isn't already)?

The HBC will benefit from USB2 speeds if it is running on IOS58. Note that even if you're HBC isn't using IOS58, u will still have USB2 speeds via cIOSs when running games off a USB hard drive. Also note that many apps with "no_ios_reload" in its meta.xml are built assuming your HBC is running off of IOS58... that's not to say it won't work off of other IOSs, but those apps will likely behave more like their authors intended when running off of IOS58.

I hope this helps!

@sergster1,
you're very welcome! Your post actually make me laugh, for a second there I didn't get what u were referring to, then I remembered my signature, lol!

Modmii works great but I ran into a snag with the usb loader portion"

"*cIOS249 rev18 or higher required to use Hard Drives Formatted as FAT32 "

I cannot seem to find this after running through the wizard. I do have my 1TB wd elements drive as fat32 and it is on the compatibility list.
before I found modmii I used another giude on the configurable usb loader site and end up innstalling cios249 rev17, not sure where to look in modmii to update this or even install it :/

Did I miss a step ?

Thanks for the great program!
