Impossible to pick just one, so here's a short list of games that make me want to chew my own testicles off for something better to do. I'll leave out the most glaringly obvious ones like ET, Zero Wing, etc.

- Sonic 2006. As a Sonic fan from his golden beginnings on the Mega Drive, playing this felt like I was being raped by a sentient cactus. Everything about it was just one long and hard kick in the happy sack. The glitches, the god-awful level design, the story that ends with a cheap cop-out 'it never really happened' move making the entire torturous process even more pointless, and don't even get me started on the romance between Elise and Sonic. All I wanted was for just one scene where Amy Rose gets jealous and pounds Elise into a paste with a bloodied PikoPiko hammer.

- Final Fantasy XII/XIII. Ooh, controversy. Let me explain. I loved everything up to X, even II which was kinda off the mark a little with the wierd levelling system. But then 12 hit. And...I stopped caring. It was so full of politics and bullshit, the characters weren't in any way relatable and only Balthier deserves another chance in my humble opinion. And as for the gameplay, god damn it was dull. The fighting just felt boring to me. The system has since been improved upon with games like Dragon Age Origins but back then it was just plain cack. The summons were getting their asses handed to them by bats. That's just not acceptable. In any way. Get Bahamut on the scene, he'll set things right. Show up, Mega Flare, fuck off again. Why was that in need of any alteration?

As for 13, while it showed potential, it's simply not a game if you ask me. It's a movie with incredibly boring and overly complex menus. I never even finished it. I got all the way to the final chapter and just couldn't bring myself to care any more. So I watched the ending on Youtube and left it at that. It was dull, linear, the battles were crap because I had no input on them and they lacked that 'flashy' aspect from previous titles, I like seeing crap explode everywhere, huge firestorms, nuclear explosions on demand via the Ultima materia, etc. The characters were distinctly blah, and quite frankly I'm astonished they released the game in such piss poor condition. What maniac in the beta team thought it was finished? Find him and punch him in the tits. The story's both impenetrable and boring, so bad that we need a fucking glossary on standby. Any chance you could explain things properly in game instead of giving us homework?

- Bomberman Act Zero. HOW THE FUCK CAN ANYONE MESS UP BOMBERMAN?! It's a formula that didn't change for like, 20 years with good reason. It was perfect already. Leave it the fuck alone. Make it all cut-and-paste cyborg hero #9,000,000,005 with no charm or style and then go about fucking up the gameplay to match. Yeah, that sounds like such a good idea on paper. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

- Starfox Assault. While I admit that the Arwing missions are some of the best in the series, anyone want to explain why there's only like...3 of them? You do realise Fox McCloud is a fucking pilot, right? Why does he spend so long not flying? It's pants-on-head retarded. It'd be like the next Rocky film only having Rocky go into the ring once, he spends the rest of the two hours doing a jigsaw puzzle. Or Rambo taking a break from the carnage to go volunteer at a petting zoo. STICK TO WHAT YOU DO BEST.

I have plenty more, but I wanna go watch a movie now so I'll come back later with more rage.

I have not played XIII yet, but I too enjoyed Final Fantasy up to X-2.
XII, I thought at first, was unique (from the other FFs), but I soon found everything to be just terrible from audio quality to story to just plain boring.

Threads like this are doomed for flamewars.

I'll post some biggest disappointments.

1: Red Dead Redemption.
Pre-ordered it, picked it up day one, played the crap out of it, got bored in a week. The story was boring, stale and not particularly original. Every character in the game was one dimensional. Music was alright I guess. Decent variety of weapons. But NOTHING to do. Everything was boring after you'd done it once or twice. Play some poker? fun for a few rounds. Dice game? fun for a few rounds. Duels? not even fun once. It was GTA with horses instead of cars, and it was boring as hell. Also was too easy.
I picked it up expecting absolute greatness, and was hugely disappointed.

2: Star Ocean: TLH. Graphics were pretty. Story was forgettable, combat was a Tales-rip off and completely boring and terrible feeling if you've ever played a Tales game. Music was alright but nothing jumped out at me. It was another game I pre-ordered and expected a lot from, and was then crushed.

...er I forgot other disappointments.
So some hates

1: Any sonic games. Sorry, but they're all ridiculously easy and boring as hell. I've never enjoyed them except sonic spinball.

2: Tenchu Z. That was the worst fucking xbox360 game ever. If I hadn't rented it, i'd have nailed the disc to a board and lit it on fire.

3: World of Warcraft. It basically lead to the mass ruination of the MMO genre. Too many MMOs now follow the casual trash trend, and thus waves of crap are released all the time. It's a complete pain in the ass.
WoW wasn't the first casual MMO, but it is the most popular one...and it spreads its casualizations like a fucking disease.

Final Fantasy X is the only one that come to my mind. I couldn't stand the voice acting, it's terrible! Played it for like 10 minutes.

C&C tiberian sun. Without a frickin' doubt. I looked forward to it ever since finishing the original C&C. Red alert was fun, but I missed that compelling sci-fi element.

Tiberian sun was a disappointment all around. Random plot twists (erm...aliens? totally invisible bases?), bad acting (was I supposed to identify to those main characters? it was all like I did all the work so some B-actors could get all the credit for it) and worst of all: totally screwed up units. I finished the last GDI mission with nothing but a mammoth tank and a (stolen) repairing vehicle. the NOD side wasn't much better with their unit that could shoot halfway through the map. The AI never was a strong point in C&C games, but with all that, it showed all the better (with low and medium, you had no opposition...with hard, you have no opposition until he suddenly steamrolls you in a second).
The only interesting level was that one where you had to fight your troops through an invisible base with just one vehicle that had to be deployed in order to see the enemy. But that was it. It was the first (and thus far only) time I sold a PC game to a second hand store. When I realised they offered so little (about 1/4th of the purchasing price...about a week earlier) was because they probably assumed I had copied it, I felt insulted. I wouldn't have played it if it was free.

Rival Turf (snes). Back then, 2 friends, my brother and me had to share our pocket money to buy and maintain a super nes. We liked beat 'm ups, so it was only natural that we would buy final fight (or a clone thereof) at some point. But...let's just say this wasn't the best decision. The one fighter had only one or two fighting moves to beat up one or two random enemies in one or two random locations. You moved as if through mud, had barely any lives and IIRC not even a co-op multiplayer. Sigh...just the thought of it...I bet nobody of us would be willing to admit he was the one to suggest it'd be a good game to begin with.

That's all I can think of. There have been other bad games, but those were either not up my alley (final fantasy series) or ridden by bugs (I think I died more to falling through the level in hidden & dangerous than by actual enemies). Nothing really worth mentioning, I think.

What? I loved RDR. It quickly took a spot in my regular online games after I played the 20+ hour single player. I thought the characters were great, music was breathtaking, and it felt very polished. A lot of the minigames were throwaways but the rest of the game was very emotional, deep, and fun. Plus the Free Roam online mode was a lot of fun.

I wouldn't say it's my "least favorite game" but No More Heroes 2. It's not bad, but it was such a disappointing sequel to an amazing game. When they said you started at #51, I thought there'd be 50 FUCKING BOSSES. There's like maybe a few more than the first because of some bullshit rank skipping. And the minigames, while decently nice odes to retro games, were so numbingly boring after playing them time after time after time. It was like in the first game; why do the labor jobs when you can repeat the same assassination mission a couple of times and get tons of moolah? I also just didn't like what they did to Travis, I enjoyed it more in the first game when he was fighting just because he was an enormous bad ass and wanted to A) get bragging rights and B) bang Sylvia. Not some emotional revenge trip. Plus the graphics, while nicer than the first, led to a lot of chugging which felt really unpolished. It felt like they were going to make an epic, expansive game but were forced to cut out half the content and ship it out in January.

Prince of Persia '09 was pretty mediocre too. They made the combat mega boring and the emphasis of platforming would've worked if it was as good as it was in the Sands of Time series.

I don't get all this hating on XII/XIII! They were both good games (even if XIII wasnt the best), they were just different from what people are used to. And you hate them for trying new things? I don't. XII was my favorite, because the gameplay was so fresh, and the open world was fantastic. Sure Vaan was an annoying twat and Penelo annoyed the crap outta me, doesn't make it a bad game. the other characters/story/music made it all better. Maybe Nobuo had some great (bloody hell they were good) songs in the earlier games, but Hitoshi was new, and I liked his style a lot TBH.

XIII's menu system really wasnt that hard at all, it just had quite a few elements to it. I had a hang of it after a short period of time. The story isnt fantastic, but it wasnt terrible. But the scenery was FANTASTIC, and I fell in love with that battle system, even if only one character could be controlled in a battle. The paradigm system was brilliant

Sure, the earlier games are great, but they are just great in different ways. Don't inflict your opinions upon others. I'm playing through XII for a second time at the moment, and i still love it.

I'm not hating on the game for being different from the others- rather I think it was a good effort by SE to try something fresh.
It's just that... the open world, I found, made the gameplay too slow.
And the Gambit system? I know you aren't forced to use it, but it made the game way too easy.

I guess the style too. The environments seemed so "old-fashioned".. just wasn't used to it I guess.

People play the newer FF's so they can 'relive the experience with past FF's' with new story lines and crap like that.
It's just that the transition phase between FFX and FFXII was too fast.

Then allow me, a life-long Final Fantasy fan, to explain exactly why I thought they were both absolute turd on a stick.

FFXII

- Story was completely uninteresting. Too much focus on politics and I never felt like I had any impact on the world as a whole, I was merely surviving it. I get enough of that feeling in reality.
- Summons were utterly useless, often getting killed within seconds of spawning. What's that all about?
- Characters were entirely forgettable. Balthier had a few good character traits and deserves a better game, but the others were so bad I just didn't care what happened to them.
- Open world was a nice idea, but it felt like an MMO trying to be single player. Trying to have one's cake and eat it, in my opinion. You're either one thing or the other.
- Pacing was poor, the action seemed to just start getting going then grind to a halt to go questing for new licenses because the enemies in the next area suddenly gain the ability to chew my face off without warning. See previous comment regarding summons being useless.
- Using the flashy special moves drains your entire MP guage, leaving you unable to effectively heal. That's just stupid. There's a good reason why the Limit Break has always had its own guage.

FFXIII
- Once again the story had no sense of scale. I was merely surviving the world, not altering it in any way. It was so convoluted and confusing that you need to break game flow to read through the bloody cliffnotes every now and then. You're supposed to weave the info into the narrative, not make us do extra research. Piss poor story telling on every level.
- Characters outright saying 'I am now a totally different person following this sudden out-of-the-blue epiphany' which to me is the mark of bad design. Lightning's sudden change was just painful to watch.
- Characters which wouldn't have been missed if entirely absent. Seriously, what in the grand scheme of things do a lot of the characters add to the overall plot? Hope, Sahz, etc. Lightning and Snow are questing to save Sarah, I guess. Vanille and Fang are looking for some kind of personal redemption after their last Focus, fair enough. So...why were the other two there? What would have been different about the story if they'd been cut? Nothing, as far as I can tell. They have their brief moments and other than that they're utter wastes. Hope's quest for revenge comes to nothing, and Sazh's quest for his son added basically nothing to the overall story.
- I've seen 2D platformers less linear than this. That's just awful. And don't start about the plains on Gran Pulse later in the game. You get a bunch of 'kill this' missions in a field, nothing more. No freedom there, just chores. It just seems open compared to the corridor-o-thon of the rest of the game, it's still nothing compared to the freedom from previous games.
- Battles didn't have me on the edge of my seat at all because I felt like I only had a minimal impact on the results. There's no sense of danger, or the empowerment that gets you beyond that danger because you can't progress very far in the Crystarium until you pass checkpoints. The best abilities in the game arrive far too late to be of any real use. I felt like I was just sitting back and watching someone else have all the fun.
- Whose side was I on the whole time? Am I the good guys or the bad guys? I've finished the game (finally decided to finish it last night instead of starting Killzone 3) and I still don't know what the fuck happened.

OK, so they may not be the worst games of all time, but they do make my list of the biggest disappointments of all time. They remind me of the first Final Fantasy movie, Spirits Within. It's an ok film when you judge it on its own merits, by no means great but at least adequate, but when you put the Final Fantasy label on it you expect better. That sums up 12 and 13 quite nicely for me.

As for FF14, give me a fuckin' break. I played FF11, it was great, although I did tire of it eventually. How could they ever release a game in such piss-poor condition? It's beyond awful.

If you thought travelling the world was slow (even though you had the orange crystals, chocobos, airports and the Strahl), you should play the IZJS version which allows you to press a button and make everything go twice as fast. So long, arduous tedious foot travelling!

- Story was completely uninteresting. Too much focus on politics and I never felt like I had any impact on the world as a whole, I was merely surviving it. I get enough of that feeling in reality.Matsuno's stories are like that. Deal wiith it. See FFT and TO.
- Summons were utterly useless, often getting killed within seconds of spawning. What's that all about? They've never been too useful anyway. Except for maybe VIII where summoning them was like using a human shield and X. Not even in IX where they're more important to the plot than in any other FF game were they useful.
- Characters were entirely forgettable. Balthier had a few good character traits and deserves a better game, but the others were so bad I just didn't care what happened to them.Did you really not care about what happened to Fran? - Characters outright saying 'I am now a totally different person following this sudden out-of-the-blue epiphany' which to me is the mark of bad design. Lightning's sudden change was just painful to watch.FFVII's Cloud, VIII's Squall and X's Yuna had this too. It seems to be a common thing in games with CA by Nomura.
- Characters which wouldn't have been missed if entirely absent. Seriously, what in the grand scheme of things do a lot of the characters add to the overall plot? Hope's quest for revenge comes to nothing, and Sazh's quest for his son added basically nothing to the overall story.Sazh had his to son to save, what's more powerful than that? And Hope wanted to beat Snow up.
- I've seen 2D platformers less linear than this. That's just awful. And don't start about the plains on Gran Pulse later in the game. You get a bunch of 'kill this' missions in a field, nothing more. No freedom there, just chores. It just seems open compared to the corridor-o-thon of the rest of the game, it's still nothing compared to the freedom from previous games.Freedom? They had none! Well, save for XI and X-2. They're all linear, only XIII hides it less so.
I felt like I was just sitting back and watching someone else have all the fun.If you didn't change paradigms often then you'd have died. Is that not enough impact for you? I mean the AI doesn't switch paradigms by itself.
- Whose side was I on the whole time? Am I the good guys or the bad guys? I've finished the game (finally decided to finish it last night instead of starting Killzone 3) and I still don't know what the fuck happened. The good guys. Is that not clear? Orphan was harvesting souls to be reunited with the Maker. That's pretty fucked up.

Also, regarding your comment regarding flashiness in XIII's battles. What. The. Hell.
They were the flashiest of them all!
And as for my own least favorite game(s), all FPSs. Save for the ones made by Valve and SE.

I'm not one to hate a game, and can usually find at least 1 good quality out of a game... BUT... I absolutely HATE Superman 64. That game is just not fun to play at all, and the graphics are very bland for the Nintendo 64. Its a prime example on how the Nintendo seal of quality doesn't mean too much.

When did Ninty's seal of quality everr mean anything? There was rivers of shit on the NES, if it makes them money than they'll approve just about anything.

Bubsy 3D on the playstation. Horrible game which wasn't finished and was utterly broken.

I'm playing through XII for a second time at the moment, and i still love it.

also, LOL XIV

/rant

I really think that youre not looking at it right (besides XIV of course, which was a complete and utter cock-up) Both XIII and XII's stories were quite easy to understand. I haven't even finished XIII, and i still think its a good game. X, XII and all the favourites still surpass XIII, but it is still a good game

This thread is supposed to be about LEAST FAVOURITE games isn't it? If so, those games could hardly be your least favourites. Maybe they could have been your most disappointing, but that doesn't make them bad games. I think you should reconsider your priorities here.

Are you saying there is less bad stuff on the Wii? XD
