Hacking Xenoblade menu translation

visit the link HisshouBuraiKen posted if you want to know if/when something is updated...the links i put are just updating the files so people who followed my tutorial are using the most up to date translation.but things are posted first at googledocs...the update above is just a fix to a problem Seam pointed out.....


A breakdown of whats inside ev/realtime = event files

adx files are the audio for cutscenes and the first one vs01000000.adx is the intro audio.every file following are in order of thier appearance(sound) with the last file being the biggest (its the ending obviously).

The intro video is vs17240100_c01.sfd

All files that are video or audio start with vs (video sound?) so it leads me to believe if there is text that goes with that video it wont have the vs but will have 17240100 or 01000000 so if we can find a file with that naming convention we may find the first cut scene text.ill admit i just barely used my first hex editor a few days ago so im learning all this from scratch but thats how im searching through/inside files.

also the first japanese characters on screen are 遙か昔 so im also searching for these specific characters

i havent found the story yet but i believe im close....this is worth a new post....looking through main.dol i found a lot of interesting things.....first thing i noticed was theres words already in english such as Collepedia,relate etc......

the most important find though was this text = txt_subtit01
search for this hex 74 78 74 5F 73 75 62 74 69 74 30 31

subtit could mean subtitle....anyway i dont think main.dol houses these files but rather points to them so tomorrow i will search for these subtit files.
main.dol also seems to house the codecs for the video and audio as i saw softdec mentioned and some sort of player.....lots of stuff...i didnt even finish...i got tired.....

well i might have found the cut scene text for the beginning.....i found 1 instance of vs17240100(intro) in script.pkb....it starts with vs like the intro video but it ends with .txt and its near the bottom of script.pkb...right now i cant extract it....

the only file with vs17240100.txt but i cant pull it out yet

I have a problem, I extracted everything from static.arc whit zeforte's programs, but each time the folder xls goes blank while the other two seem fine.
Then I replaced the xls folder with your beta1, I tried to compile with the appropriate program but the size of static.arc became 606 Kb.
Can someone help me solve this because I always get the error and I can't understand why this happens

@xfede - the only reason i ever got the blank folders was i was missing java....maybe you are missing it..i used the newest version which i think was 1.6
it seems to me you never got the bdats....you should get 3 folders

bdat
xls

if bdat or xls is empty i can only guess java its like a 16mb file i think.
i can make another video just showing that but i just woke up..ill make one

ya i added it above...ill add anything else ive learned in this post here in a few hours.i was waiting for people to leave comments cause i didnt want to have like 5 posts in a row...lol....wow theres 16 people viewing this.thats the most ive ever seen.by the way if you cant see my files its because your not registered..its quite easy to get an account,no different from going to a doctor and having to give him your information....so sign up.

zeforte has made it easy for all of us to test with his tool unlike other groups who never release what they have and keep stuff hidden as if they are legends.you have to wait ages for thier work to be finished and there is something outright dirty about that.here we make everything public cause we are like everyone else.the way i look at it there are people with the tools but not the effort or time and then theres people with the effort and time but dont have the tools.....zeforte and falo were both guys with the tools just not the time.....we are the ones who have the time and can put effort,we just dont have the tools as he was right.hackers/programmers are few and far between.

really if someone wants to use his tool to translate things themseleves in the comfort of thier home they could do so wether to learn or even impress a friend.thats cool.but seeing we have already started and will most likely finish before anyone else you should not make your work public unless its some bug you found that you fixed or you translated some stuff and want to contribute....but overall we got the translation side covered i believe...

its just the hacking/coding side we will need help in but i already started a list of coders/programmers...a sort of scouting report if you will and i will start messaging these people for help but not yet...theres still stuff that hasnt been translated with the menus but a lot is in english now...and no one has found the story yet....i sent a message to linkzero asking how to repack common.pkb and awaiting reply


these are just my thoughts that ive never seen a group make things so public like we have here.tools for translating are never released and if they are its probably a game thats not very popular and/or its incomplete like some script that lets you unpack the text but shows no way how to put it back in.

Please, don't post clean files extracted from the game. let the users extract them themselves using wiiscrubber or any other tools.
If they can't use the tools correctly, explain how to do it (like installing java 1.6, and pointing to the tutorials you made).
You can post translated .xls though

thanks cyan for pointing that out.i wasnt aware we couldnt do that...i removed them..that is the way i wish everyone was...someone else would have just removed my post...

limit - there's no sense in waiting for every last thing we have so far to be translated first, that's just wasting time. It's all gonna get done anyway so if you know people who can help extract more text it will only make things go faster. Plus it would tell me even quicker if the space limits can be overcome or if there's nothing that can be done, so I'll know whether or not I'll have to go back and revise everything anyway.

And yeah I wouldn't post ANY game files, clean or patched. It's illegal and also the #1 way to get Nintendo on your ass. XLS files, instructions to use wiiscrubber, and zeforte's tools are fine though. Speaking of which, did the new pctalk file work all right? It seemed to be fine for me, plus I had some fun making the bubbles angry and Shulk saying "Next time do your own fucking dirty work!"

I have a save file near the end now with quests available and a quest almost complete so I can test pretty much everything except story stuff, that will require playthroughs but I'm sure once we start getting things translated we'll have PLENTY of volunteers

I'll be on vacation the next two weeks but get out there and get a team of kickass hackers together, and hopefully there'll be a bunch of story text waiting for me when I get back!

Hi everyone. I've been following your project for a while and, of course, great work xD
I'm italian guy and i have worked with linkzero for the italian patch of xenoblade. The fact is, one week ago linkzero has closed all of his sites and projects and just went missing without saying a word. Our italian translation group seriously thinks that is more likely an hacker attack ( it's not the first time...) because link seems very excited about the fact he has found the way to repack the whole story. And it seems very strange that the day after the announce, he REALLY disappears (sites, msn, facebook, just everything). I know link was working with you too. If anyone contacts him, or has any info about where is he and what the h**l is doing, please let me know.

I dont know how linkzeror2 dissappeared since i checked his profile and he was last seen today which means he logged in....

check his profile...i thought he didnt find the story yet?i know he said he can repack common.pkb....i sent him a message about that and to get back to me....

I dunno what to say... yeah you're right, he checked in yesterday, i've also send him a pm here and in every other forum where he is registred, but i ve never receveid an answer. Hope that he will answer now.
However, i think he kinda abandoned the project, and that would be a real shame (without saying he didn't act properly good, he just throw away all the good work that we "italian group" have done for the translation). Anyway, i'm real sorry for the off-topic, and at least we expect a good eng traslation from u guys ^^

i saw on the italian page it seemed like he said he had the files but lets take it one step at a time like he just wants to work on the menu so if he has the story and knows how to repack it then it means im searching for nothing.....he used our tools,translations,information etc so we helped him get his italian patch moving...in fairness if he has knowledge he should help us just as we helped him...if he gave up on the project leave what info he found so we can move forward....even his italian patch will be finished since he has devoted workers....


im messaging various forums,boards,coders etc.....

the help we need is
-space issues (words being cut off...maybe theres a way to expand the text box itself?)
-finding the story (linkzero may have found it but he aint replying)
-a program/script to unpack and repack map.pkb and common.pkb (again linkzero said he can repack common but not map)
where ever the story is held would be included in this section
