Hi!

I posted some suggestion for Configurator here but had no answer so here it is again:

Jabe said:
Is it possible to add to functionnality to search automatically for config.txt, themes files, and covers folders based on ../ upfolder.

Let me explain why…

When I launch CfgLoaderConfigurator.exe from SD:\usb-loader it already does this automatically.

But because of all translation files I store CfgLoaderConfigurator.exe inside some subfolder called CfgLoaderConfiguratorv64Fr.

And because I'm doing this, when I'm launching it, if I use cover wizard it doesn't find cover folders, and so on for config.txt files, etc.

I don't know if my problem seems clear, let me know if not.

So my CfgLoaderConfigurator.exe is stored inside SD:\usb-loader\CfgLoaderConfiguratorv64Fr folder instead of just SD:\usb-loader\ .

Can you make it "cd .." (check directory)
You know go back from one directory and check if there is any config.txt, any covers and themes folders?
I've been considering adding a settable persistent base directory that it will reload on startup every time using a registry entry to store it across versions, but haven't gotten around to it. In the meantime, you could use the directory names 'languages' or 'cdbs' instead of 'CfgLoaderConfiguratorv64Fr' for your selected language, and then keep the Configurator in the usb-loader directory. I can see that it won't be a perfect solution, though, so I will get around to remembering the base path soon.

That's maybe not the perfect solution but it fixed my problem: thanks for the tip

I've chosen to store translations files inside "cdbs" and not "languages" in order to keep orwel's Configurator translation separate from my CFG Loader translation.

Then I put CfgLoaderConfigurator.exe, ConfiguratorHelp.chm, Ionic.Zip.Reduced.dll, and Readme-Configurator.txt files back to SD:\usb-loader folder.

So now because translations files are stored inside "cdbs" folder I don't have too many files inside SD:\usb-loader folder anymore.

That's exactly what I was looking for!

Is there a way to disable the games cycling left or right when you move the wiimote side to side? We have young kids who have a hard time aiming at a game and it usually takes them a couple tries to get the right one. I just want the games to cycle using the directional pad. Is there a setting in the config to do this?

Thanks.

I may be misunderstanding the question but can't he just change his default to grid view?

Sorry to bother, but when I download custom themes for this program, they come with files that have an extension ".them". (Not a typo. It's not .theme, but just .them). What are these for? Are they important for activating the theme in the program?

Do you mean for Configurable USB Loader (aka Cfg)? There are no themes for the Configurator and the Configurator does not support theme downloads for Cfg as of yet.

Cfg also doesn't use any files called .them, so I don't know what you have found there.

I was actually confused. Turns out I downloaded themes for "USB Loader GX." Ok, so now I downloaded themes from Configurable USB Loader. And those work alright, but I have a new problem.

How do I get the games to display all across in 3D boxes? Right now it has two rows of 2D boxes: three at the top and two at the bottom. I tried to edit the config in configurable USB loader to not use rows, and to display as 3D, but the changes didn't take. So I edited the config manually in notepad and then confirmed it in the configurator, and the changes DID take. But they didn't show up on the USB Loader program itself in the Wii. It's still displaying as two rows of 2D boxes.

This is what I'm trying to make it do. And I got this theme from here. It's in the Configurable USB Loader section.

The option you want is gui_style, and you should be editing the version in settings.cfg as it has priority. You can do that with the configurator, or use D-pad down in Cfg to select the style you want, then go to the global settings page by pushing 1 twice and then push 2. The latter method gets Cfg to write the current options in use to settings.cfg for you.

Ok. Which button do I press to make the changes to my settings save? Because I changed the settings, then hit "Generate settings.cfg", then wrote over the existing one. Then plugged it in...

And it's still displaying the wrong way.

So I opened settings back up on my computer... and the changes never saved. I see "Read existing settings", "Generate settings" (tried this one, didn't do the trick), "Forget names", "Add all named", "Add game/ID", "Add .txt game list", and "Add games folder". And then there's all the buttons at the bottom. But those all appear to pertain to config and theme files. So, which button on the global settings page do I press to make these changes save?

Hmm.. Generate settings.cfg should do the trick. Are you sure you are setting gui_style to coverflow3D and have it checked at the side? Perhaps try saving to another location not on your SD, then copying the file there manually. If you figure out what it is, let me know and I might be able to do something to make it work next time.

Ok. I'm not sure what went wrong the first time, but the changes appeared to take this time. I checked it in notepad and the settings wrote. Now I'm going to stick this back in my Wii and check it out again.

Also, is "coverflow3d" and a lack of rows, indeed the combination required to make the above referenced effect happen?

Update: Ok. Stuck it in the Wii. Loaded up. Still the same damn thing. Stuck it back in the computer, the settings had changed back.

How on earth did it do that? It's like my Wii's a troll or something. Ok, so since I confirmed that the settings saved this time, this can only mean that the Wii rewrites the settings back again. How do I get it to stop that?

I have no clue what on the Wii would be changing the contents of your card. Cfg will only write out the settings.cfg file when you access the global settings page and then choose to save the settings. Does your card have a write protection lock? If so, flip it and see if that changes anything. Also, are you sure you are editing the correct file? The one that needs to be edited will be inside the base directory, which you can find the location of on the global settings page of Cfg (push 1 twice to get there).

Yup, it's the base directory. And actually, I'm not using an SD card for USB Loader. I have USB Loader in my USB drive. And I'm fairly certain there's no write protection. I've used this thing to transfer files since 2007 about.

Is there a way to change the cover flow options from within the Wii menu? I didn't notice an option for it there.

Well, as I said before, go to the GUI in Cfg, push D-pad down several times until the view type you like shows up, then go to the global settings page and use the 2 button to save them. This should make Cfg save your settings.

Good news everyone! You are reading the rest of this text in Professor Farnsworth's voice now!

Also, I just went and loaded the settings up in the Configurator, deleted the settings file completely, changed the settings as I pleased, and then generated a new file. That seemed to do the trick. Finally my covers flow like I want them to. Hip hip hooray!

Sorry for the double-post, but I was afraid nobody would notice this if I just put it in an edit.

How do I get the gameslist to update with the files I add in the Cover Wizard? It doesn't change no matter what I do. For some reason it just remains stationary now.

I did experiment with replacing the entire folder and program, but it refused to generate a new games list when it had none to work with. And I did try moving everything off my HD and doing it from the desktop instead. Still, the changes didn't take. I also checked to make sure that the files weren't Read-only. I tried starting from scratch on my desktop with a new usb-loader folder. But that didn't work either.

Lastly... I tried adding these games to the gameslist manually, by typing the code in for them, following the EXACT formula the other games use on the list. Yet somehow, magically, your program STILL doesn't see those games on the list! How is this possible!? There's no science that can explain why this isn't working. I think we've found positive proof of a ghost in the machine.

Luckily, the games seem to display alright in the Wii itself. But the Covers Wizard doesn't remember them and neither does the gameslist.

The gamelist file is generated by Cfg when you save the global settings. The Configurator currently does not edit this file, but now that you have mentioned this problem, I can see that it might be useful.

I'm not sure why your manual additions didn't work. They should have.
