This is fascinating: I just downloaded a new update PUP from sony and tested it on my non-hacked 3.55 system. It shows up as 3.55 and asks me if I want to update! (It should say "no need to update, already have current firmware). Suspiciously, I checked the MD5 against a 3.55 PUP I downloaded a few days ago --they don't match! Sony is being really

here methinks!

Edit: Nevermind, I accidentally compared the wrong file on my desktop (it's a mess!) Sorry. It's still 3.55 OFW, but I can't figure why my PS3 would still let me update to the same firmware.

I was on 3.55 kmeaw

Ran wipe history
Deleted all homebrew
Reinstalled 3.55 OFW from recovery menu
Formatted the hard drive
Reset settings to default

I'm sure not all of these things were necessary, but better safe than sorry

Now I'm installing the 3.56 update
We'll see how this goes...

My roommate also modded his PS3, so we decided to use mine for online games and his for homebrew.

My bro updated our PS3 while I was gone

. Oh well, at least I still have my 3.20? (The one right before the removal of Other OS) PS3. Just gotta buy an HDD for it and it'll be good

EDIT: My PS3 was on kmeaw's CFW and my bro updated it straight to 3.56 without reverting the system back or anything (He didn't even know I installed CFW on it). My console did not brick.

Does the DNS hack work outside of the US? Eh, they'll probably be a fix soon so we can update without losing the CFW. I hope.

I'm scared to update even though i'm on 3.55 OFW. Should i update? I don't play that much online, occasionally play some Uncharted 2 but i mostly end up rage quitting 'cause i suck. Btw i have a AU 160gb slim. Should i update?

If you're on OFW, why are you scared? Go ahead and update.
