They are the same your chip is just missing F which is just DVDRW support(who cares?). RST is RE and SX is S.

EDIT : I was wrong i looked it up more closely and SX is S now I dont know where to Connect CX still looking

Is there any way to test the chip is working without a game ?

I wouldn't think so... if you are trying to play a burned game, it would only be tested with a bunred game, right?

a quick question for the PS2 pros here. I have a PS2 SCPH-79001 and I was wondering if this cheapo chip is the right one to get:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.44852

and if there is a diagram for it somewhere...

All the modchip on dealextreme will work. But be aware that it take A LOT OF SOLDERING SKILLS to install this in a slim ps2. As for the diagrams check out the links above from filetrip and skapps all those modchip are very similar one to another.

Does it say matrix, or some logo when starting up? and does holding Triangle + circle then turning on display a settings menu?

no just boots direct to the sony screen
iirc the r,v,u,t,q,m,n,o,p,w are the "bios" points, when they are installed correctly, it should show modbo, or matrix logo before the sony screen and/or be able to access the settings menu. you may also need to double the ground and power wire if your wires are small. The a,b,g,h,i,s wires are for the disc drive protection.

I removed the chip... but left the wiring to the main board attached and she fired up perfectly fine ??? possibly a dud chip ? ill have another crack at it tomorrow as its geting late now.

I can solder directly to the bios chip legs for points RVTQU rather than those little pads and it shouldnt cause any problems ?

Is point S or SX absolutely necessary ? is there an alt point ? none of the diagrams are very clear so i soldered it to the bottom edge of the top fuse/resistor.

I think i a going to have to find more accurate diagrams

This diagram has less pins connected , the Y in a different pad only the I is soldered to the reverse of the board etc

I know. I am in a digital electronics course and have been soldering since I was 10.

It'll be a fun project for me. Thanks for the heads up though.

It is possible to have a defective/dud chip. I had a quite a bit of bad modbos and a couple of dms.

should be no problems obviously. Make sure the trace goes to the actual leg tho.

S is not necessary, S wire is for PS1 games.

so... what chip do you have again?
