OK, I'm kinda freaking out now.

My nephew and I both got a DSi XL for Christmas, the first thing we check out is the Nintendo Online Shop "I'm stupid!" witch we had to update the DSi XL operating system for.
I'm not a compleat dummy I did some research and found that the AceKard 2i works on the latest DSi Firmware 1.4.1U..
smile.gif

Now both DSi XL are at 1.4.1U.
I thought I'll do some more reading on this AceKard 2i after I bought 2 of them from PetEgg and found that you need to update the AceKard 2i to work on a 1.4.1U DSi.
Then I see you need a DSi or Light with 1.4U or under to do the update!!!!!!!!!WTF!!!!!
I have nether!!!!!!!!!

So, I guess I need to know,., can I use a plain old NDS "not a light or a DSi" to do the AceKard 2i update??
What are the chances the AceKard 2i will be 1.4.1U ready???

Thanks to all the reply.
I'm so bummed right now....

Chances it will be ready for 1.4.1 are highly unlikely, most shops require you to pay extra for that service.

You can use any DS to update your card except from DSi's updated to 1.4+, and that includes DS Phat and DS Lite.

Chances of the Acekard 2i being 1.4.1 ready? Slim to none.
But you can use ANY DS/DSLite/DSi 1.3 or lower to flash the Acekard 2i.

All you have to do is download the update file from Acekard.com and copy ONE of the "DSl" or "DSi" version to your MicroSD/HC and run it, preferably through AKAIO.
There is no real difference between the two, the DSi version flashes the card it is run from and can be used on the DS/DSLite/DSi while the DSl version asks you to swap cards. The DSl version can also be used to 'unbrick' a card, but can only be run from a DS/DS lite.

Is there any chance of bricking the DS or AceKard when updating?
Well the answer is "yes", there is ALWAYS a chance to brick something when you're updating firmware, but there really isn't any reason to be scared.
I've updated my AceKard2i probably 20 times without issue (usually to check for the messages to help walk people through it), the DS' firmware itself with FlashMe as well as literally hundreds of PC BIOS updates on my computers, my families computers and school computers in Highschool and haven't had one bad flash that wasn't related to old/dead hardware.

The only real precautions to take would be to:
1). Fully charge and then plug the DS into the AC power just in case the battery dies.
2). Walk away! Remove the temptation and impatience of watching it update.

As for the step-by-step guide, there is one in the n00b guide by tk_saturn (scroll down to Step 11), but the instructions are simple.
Just run the NDS file and follow the steps. I think it just involves pressing a certain key combination (like press Y then A) so you don't accidentally run it, but beyond that it's cake.

Oh, and dose the DS Phat have system updates? If so how can I find out what my DS Phat is?
Thanks!!!!!

The DS phat/lite don't have any system updates, that's why you can use any of them.

The best card now is the Supercard DSTwo, but it's like twice the price.

Incoming copy-paste...

cardchart.gif

  • DS / DS Lite
The card will work on an original (fat) DS or a DS Lite.
  • DSi / DSi XL
The card will work on a DSi or DSi XL as well.
  • Game Updates
Firmware updates are what let cards play newer games, these are the life-blood of the card.
  • SDHC
SDHC refers to SD cards larger than 2GB (gigabytes). If there's no SDHC support, you can only use SD cards up to 2GB.
  • WiFi Update
The Acekard 2i can update it's cheats (and get minor bug fixes) over WiFi without having to connect to a computer.
  • Clean Mode
The DSTwo has special features to ignore AP in most games, letting you play them without having to wait for a firmware update first.
  • RTS
The Real-Time Save (Save State) function lets you save and reload your game progress at any moment you wish.
  • In-Game Guide
You can pull up text files and images in-game, in order to check a walkthrough or map you downloaded at any time during a game.
  • Slow Motion
The card lets you slow down the game speed as you wish.
  • In-Game Cheats
The card lets you create and modify cheats while the game is running.
  • Special Homebrew
The card has multiple pieces of special homebrew, such as it's own GBA and SNES emulators, as well as text/PDF reader and video player.
  • Battery Life
Unfortunately the DSTwo's extra CPU and RAM (which give it the special features) eat into the battery life a bit.

I got my AceKard 2i a few days ago and now I have a few quick questions if you have time..?

1st long wait!! about 2 or 3 weeks to get it mailed, but it was 1.4.1U ready. ":) I didn't have to do the ak2ifw_141 update so that was cool:)". PetEgg is ok with me!!4/5.
My AceKard 2i is running on 1.4.1U with AKAIO.1.8.5 system menu..

Now I have a few quick questions..?

1. Can I watch Videos with the AceKard?

2. Can I play GBA games on the AceKard..?
2b. I just got a DSI XL, I'm missing the GBA game slot..!!!

Thanks for your time every one!
I love my AceKard tho, that DS Two looks hella cool too.

THANKS!

1. Can I watch Videos with the AceKard? You can use Moonshell2 to play DPG movies.
Moonshell2 comes with a converter to convert most video files to DPG, and there are some guides out there for fine-tuning the settings.
I watched a movie and I think an episode of a subtitled anime without problems.

2. Can I play GBA games on the AceKard..?No. You need a Slot-2 device like the EZFlash 3-in-1 to play GBA games... but the DSi doesn't have a Slot-2

Nintendo removed compatibility with GBA games with the DSi.
