The only reason to ever pre-order something from Gamestop is if it's a niche release and there are literally no other stores in the area that carry videogames and for some reason you can't order games online.

It boggles my mind that Gamestop, which only does one thing, sell videogames, can often not have enough of a AAA title on launch day, only fulfilling pre-orders, and you can go to a big box store and see a hundred copies on the shelf. Stop bugging me about getting a card, getting a magazine, pre-ordering stuff I don't want.

While we are on the Gamestop rant, why in the world do you agree to accept games without instructional manuals or cases (which are most likely stolen). I could understand if you'd sell the stripped copies at a substantial discount, but no, they are the exact same price as the completed copies.

I've only ever bought 2 consoles at launch; an original Gameboy at Japanese launch (I paid around $250 for that in 1989 - that's $450 in today's money) and a DSi XL - just 'cause I could and I knew it was tried and tested technology. Be wary of a brand new console, I'm not saying by any means that there will be problems with the 3DS, but ask any early adopter of the NES, PSX, Dreamcast, PS2, XBOX 360, PS3 about the problems that can come with buying a brand new console. I have the advantage of having been a gamer basically since Atari VCS was the newest greatest thing and so I know that consoles generally get better (and cheaper) a year or more into their manufacturing run - the 360 is a good example - I could have bought a slim 360 for $129 at Walmart yesterday - the RROD plagued first gen machine was what, $400? There's lots of current gen games still to look forward to - Kingdom Hearts and Okami DS to name but two. You don't want to find yourself in a position like early N64 adopters who saw the console's price cut by 25% after 6 months - patience can be very rewarding.

I have a GameStop right down the street, but I'm not pre-ordering it until after the Conference on the 19th (Or whenever it is).

I'm definitely getting it, but I just don't want to put a $50 deposit down if for some reason it makes me change my mind.

Also, when you pre-ordered it, did they ask what color you wanted?

Edit:

it will be 269.99. but nintendo has not decided if it will include a game cartridge or extra 3DSiWare. it could be 299.99 with a game cartridge. they will include some shitty dsiware with the 269.99 package, but it will be crap like those brain age games, but they will be shitty games that show off a little bit of 3d. they havent decided what they want to do yet so thats why no price is set. they plan to set a price by feb 12th.
they just dont know if they are going to offer 3ds with a game cartridge yet. but the basic system will be $269. and they want to try to include a game with the system and sAve customers $10 by buying the system with the came card included. but they dont know of they can do that yet because of manufacturing costs.

also theres going to be a game where u can shoot your own 3d videos and it has a lot of memory in the game card for storing your videos that you record. and u can edit them in the 3ds game and save them with crazy effects. it will be like a 3d mario paint with video sort of, but mario wont be in it. mii's might be. ii dont know much else about that, but its supposed to be cool. they originally wanted to include it with the system, but the game is still in production and they wanted to be done with it by now, and they also thought it was too advanced for younger kids.

i wasnt really supposed to tell anyone the price, but i dont think the mods here will get mad cuz they want to know that stuff too

I normally don't believe rumors like this, but $269.99 sounds extremely accurate.

I agree...my local gamestop got in trouble for selling Ultimate Ninja Storm or something that was pirated from Mexico...but this was the first game that would not work on PS3 units...

my friend bought the mexico version and it worked fine with freezes every now and then....yet the American game was not compatible with the PS3...conspiracy?? yes.

what i'm trying to say is...yes they do sell pirated crap

oh....the pre-order price is $300 fucking dollars...a friend of mine bought one...

IMO?...I don't think so....it's just a fad..

a few months after it's released..all the major retailers will have them in stock...

THAT IS IF :

Nintendo doesn't purposely limit supplies to retailers creating more hype and "gotta have hysteria" like they did with the Wii....

This is Nintendo's next big gold mine...so expect "hype" and "shortages".

One other thing - people excited about playing Ocarina of Time at launch should bear in mind that it was a supposed to be a launch game for N64 too.

Fake hype? Not really. this is what happened: 3/4 of the UK WIIs were destoried in a shipping acciedent. This caused nintendo to ship Wiis originally ordered for North America to get shipped to the UK instead, causing a massive US shortage of over 5k units.

I'm sure all kinds of members will be happy to pint out what a dumb-as-shit statment that is, but I'll just say this:

North America = NTSC
UK = PAL

I'm actually kinda excited for this, but eh, I've seen how it goes, you preorder, they don't get as many as they needed, you wait, while stores have them. Anyways - good luck..I will probably wait to get it after the 2nd iteration comes out (cause unless it flops, there will be one...you know this).

I'm gonna buy it at launch simply because I want to be absolutely READY for when epic games like Professor Layton x Ace Attorney, Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, and KH 3D come out. I don't wanna wait until Christmas ;(

Plus I have like $90 in GameStop gift cards I have nothing better to spend on.

well if u think about it, its 5 dollars to preorder a video game which goes from 30-60 dollars. And there asking for 50 dollars? thats alot for a console im gunna go with its somewhere between,$250-400$
That's not exactly sound logic, but depending on who you talk to at GameStop, you can put down $25. That's the minimum at all locations here in Canada.

didn't they say that there will be 2 colors?
i also heard somewhere that the red is the one that won't be available at launch
