My psp has excellent games and it's an excellent console. The thing the DS has an over abundance of is shovelware. I'm sure the next psp will be quite excellent and most likely blow the doors off the 3ds in the power department. Right now I'm playing metal gear peace walker on my psp and it's probably the best game I've ever played on a handheld. I have both consoles so I just call it like I see it.

Yeah but it would be a pretty risky move if the next psp is set to rival the 3DS. Answer me this.

What can rival 3D?

Yea I agree the next psp will have more power then then 3DS but Nintendo has been proving for years that its not about power...its about how you use what you do have....its not all about making the most beautiful, polygon pushing, Graphics intensive game on the market....its about gameplay....In that respect there are some good games on the psp (monster hunter, peace walker, to name a few) but their seem to be a lot more on Ds.... Or at least thats how I see it...

QUOTE(Fear Zoa @ Dec 30 2010, 06:22 AM) As much as I hate to say it at this point I would say Sony is the weakest link...and its not even about their products which are on par with Microsoft, it their marketing...its a joke and they seem to be making one day decision after another......And yes I believe Nintendo is the strongest link as far as video games go...you can hate on their games....you can say they are too childish but you can'y deny their success

I probably sound like a fanboy but I own a ps1,2,3, xbox 360, Nintendo 64, gamecube, wii, psp, and every handheld nintendo has made since the gameboy pocket....I love all the companies equally

Lol retro consoles?. But to be honest. Sony games only go SO far. Even the xBox 360 is starting to get better graphics than Sony.
They should just stick to televisions and home appliances. [/fanboy]
Gotta love the classics....

Would that be possible with the latest psp? I don't think so.

even Augmented Reality is supplied by the 3DS

The thing that's most important on gaming for me is the game... If the game is a great one with great gameplay value, whether it's on DS or PSP, I'll definitely play it!

exactly
AR isnt that exclusive or anything

Ok forget AR but what about video chat? or some other feature. I'm not totally AGAISNT Sony since my house has 80% of their products. But I'm just saying for creative criticism Sony gotta stay in the game.

As the topic says Sony have been pummelled in the handheld market and now nintendo's direct competitor is Apple I think Sony should sling their hook and get out of the handheld business as they have done an epic fail with the PSP
This sounds like Nintendo Fanboyism. The PSP is a great console, and what killed it in my opinion was piracy. I will have to agree with you though. If Sony cannot innovate with their new console, they should not even bother. Nintendo has been in the handheld business for so long, I was surprised when Sony took the chunk of the market that they did.

Apple isn't a competitor in the handheld gaming market. They make smart phones, and nice music devices with the added perk of DLC made by game developers, and regular people.
What initially killed the PSP was bad design. Their marketing would have us believe we could play all the stuff that we were already playing on PS2 (and now PS3) on the handheld. Except that leaves out one crucial bit of functionality... namely, that analog nub is garbage, and there's only one of them. I could have easily forgiven the lack of shoulder buttons/triggers, if there was a second 'stick/nub' to work with. Because of that oversight, the controls were always borked in many of the games that did get ported.

Piracy didn't kill the PSP. Piracy was one of the few things that made it interesting. Homebrew would have easily saved it, if not for Sony's arrogance in trying to block that out.

Did you also conveniently forget the dead pixel problems with the original PSP's? Or the craptastic battery life? Even OPM admitted the battery in it could barely handle playing through a full movie on UMD. you basically HAD to pirate in order to get any appreciable battery life out of the damn thing.

What's funny is that controls-wise, my only gripe with the original PSP was the analog stick feeling cheap and not that accurate. Yet it's like they took that one quirk and made EVERYTHING ELSE that much worse with the PSP Go. Along with taking away your ability to pay anything less than MSRP for games. Or playing about a good half of the library to begin with. Tell me again why anyone wanted a PSP Go...? I'm having a damn hard time figuring out the point.

all the psps had issues with a huge failure on pspgo, but as some ppl said b4: the psp is a good system
psp"2" might be a good system too, i mean sony still knows quality, they are just not the best and they are friggin arrogant, attacking every single company they can see, even its fanboys are the most flaming nerds i've ever seen, so yeah, i hope sony's game industry dies and leave fair competition to others
and even considering media they screwed us up with the blu-rays. if it wasn't for their idioticy and paying other companies to use blu-rays, we would now use the much better hd-dvd

"3DS will spell the end of portable gaming for Sony"

ummmm didn't the ds do this years ago? The psp had potential, but sony just ruined it as usual, and the system didn't even have any must buy games.

The real reason I say the 3DS will kill the PSP2 is simply because Sony is throwing in one too many features. At this point it seems like Sony is putting features into it just for the sake of saying they have the features. Not to mention he 3DS is backwards compatible with DS and DSi games and the PSP2 is not backwards compatible yet again they threw the UMD to the wind.

Nintendo fanboys are so anoying. They are both great consoles. If you had played a PSP you cant say it sucks, thats just blind on your part. As if these companies will ever care about brand loyalty.

I enjoyed DS games quite a bit, ever since launch and I've owned 3 now.
I got the PSP maybe a year after launch, and I've had 2.
Both Great systems and I would buy them all over again in a heartbeat.

PSP had some GREAT games, you just had to look. And know what you like to play instead of nintendo holding your hand in the selection process.

I wouldn't compare the two systems too closely tho. The PSP's hardware was much better than the PSP and supported games with much more detail (graphics wise) than the DS could pull off.
No I'm not saying graphics on DS suck. SOME games are quite beautiful. BUT Most games on DS are either still 2D or 2.5D the few real 3D games on DS don't look anything like 3D PSP games.

I'd say the main problem with the PSP wasn't the piracy, but rather the developers for the system. Most games that were made for the system, the devs tried to make their games all in 3D but with the lack of a 2nd analog "nub" you weren't given control over the camera's in game very often, and when you were the controls were terrible.

If the devs could follow some excellent examples like God of War for 3rd person games, or Syphon Filter for 3rd person shooters then I'm guessing most games wouldn't have been so bad...

The DS didn't really focus on graphics, so Devs put more detail and depth into the games GAMEPLAY wise. Longer games usually. Some of them top notch. Some.... Trash.

But honestly if you have the money, buy both.

Piracy on the PSP is hard?
You get a $6 battery (the cost of an original R4 on ShopTemp) put some files on your MS, put them both in the PSP, flash it, and download the games. Granted MSDuos and MSPRODuos do cost quite a bit and the games are a lot larger, but really, that doesn't complicate anything.

Oh, and for people with a TA088v3 motherboard they can use ChickHEN or w/e as long as they're on or below FW 5.03.

EDIT: Okay, now I sound like an a**. I'm just saying, piracy on the PSP is not difficult, I do enjoy both systems, I have 3 DS's (lol, no pun intended) and 2 PSP's and several dozens of games for both (none are pirated o_o)
