Hello all.

I have my PAL Wii connected with the Nintendo AV Cable (RVL-009) and SCART adapter (SNSP-015) to a SCART connector in a Sony TV (4:3 old one - KV-32FX68E).

Everything is OK, except for the fact that the Wii doesn't tell the TV to select automatically the input channel to which the Wii is physically attached.

I can do this with my DVD Home Theater system, also connected to another SCART connector in the same TV. As soon as I turn on the Home Theater, the TV switches automatically to the input channel corresponding to the physical connection.

Doesn't the Wii support this, or can this be the cable?

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

The supplied cable doesn't have pin 8 switching on the SCART (since it's a composite video cable with an unintelligent physical adaptor). To get that you need the fully wired SCART cable.

No console can do that.

Do what? Wii here connected to TV via "proper" RGB SCART cable (ie. not cobbled together composite cable plus adaptor) does exactly what the OP wants (provided his TV supports it - which it would appear to do based on his home theatre experience)

And how would you connect it to the Wii?
There has to be a signal sent to the tv to change channels.
The Wii does'nt send the info...
Proof in video please!

Can anyone suggest a RGB SCART cable for the Wii console?

or a component cable

Does that mean that the original component cable without the SCART adaptor plugged directly into the TV can do what I want?
Maybe the original nintendo component cable, but I don't think so, because the wii doesn't send the signal to the TV. I have a speedlink component cable and it doesn't switch automatically. Oh, and older TV's don't have component plugs, so you can forget it.

Via RGB SCART.

Obviously.

Yes it does - the wii sends WSS via RGB SCART, and any decent TV will auto-switch.

No, you won't be able to use a component cable if you want it to auto-switch - RGB SCART is the only method that will.

As for the "no console can do it" comment - every console since the late 80s/early 90s has done auto switching via RGB SCART.

Fair enough, But hardly any console of that era had RGB outputs lol! Let alone were there TV 's equipped with RGB.
Also as for the picture Quality...you really need Component for Wii if you have Flat screen.

You use something like http://www.game.co.uk/Accessories/Wii/Cabl...19/?s=wii+scart - not rocket science....

Yes it does send the signal on pin 8.

What exactly would that prove? You could simulate it in the video by having someone press the AV button off-shot...

We are talking about Game consoles here. And scart was'nt a RGB signal.

The SCART/Peritel standard has had RGB since inception in about 1977... just cheap manufacturers didn't play ball. Anyway the case here is the Wii, the Wii has RGB on an RGB SCART cable and the display equipment will autoswitch to that input if it receives the signal on pin 8 (ie. should happen when directly attached, may not if it's attached via something else - but then the RGB wouldn't arrive either since RGB passthrough is not possible)

Eh? The SNES and the Mega Drive (you know, the two dominant consoles of the time) had RGB SCART output. Some of us have been playing import games for a very long time, and the only way to do that was via RGB SCART with a decent (sony or similar dual-standard) TV.

Most TV's sold in the UK since the early 90s have had RGB SCART. Even before then there were a lot of TVs sold that had it, they just weren't in the majority.

First of all, thanks to all of you for all the comments.

I think now I have everything clear: 3 types of cables to connect my Wii to the TV:

- Composite cable (the one that came with my Wii) - no auto-switch, worst quality;
- SCART RGB cable (Nintendo or like that one) - auto-switch via pin 8;
- Component cable - to be used for HD TVs for better quality, but no auto-switch.

I will now see if I can find an original Nintendo or similar RGB SCART cable. Anyone has suggestions, besides the one from Game.co.uk which is sold out?

Thanks and best regards.

You can try play.com just type in rgb wii.
2 options come up
the nintendo one(havent used it, But i had the gamecube version and it did auto switch)
i bought the joytech one and had no problems with it, and it also did auto swicthing (plus it had extra audio cables for a amp etc)

I use component cables now as i have a hdtv, but the pisture was nice and clear on my sd tv back in the day.
