Hi folks, long time lurker here with a problem I just can't figure out.

I've got a brand new Red Wii here and I'm trying to get it all modded for my little brother for Christmas. I've done a lot of soft-modding before but until now I've never had to set up a softmod for purely USB loading (since the red Wii won't read DVD-Rs).

My problem is that I cannot get Rock Band games to boot using the USB CFG loader and any combination of CIOS222/223. All regular games play fine using IOS249 (which is the latest Waninkoko's provided by ModMii).

Here's what I've done sofar:

Started with a virgin red Wii, softmodded it using ModMii 1.4.4 with the Smash Bros exploit.
Installed everything ModMii told me to in the guide including Waninkoko's latest 249.
Setup USB CFG loader and have it working with a USB hard drive and have loaded several games on it.

At this point is when I discovered that the Rock Band games (RB2, Beatles) won't work the instruments just using IOS249. Before when I've done softmods the solution was to use Hermes v4 and install a merged IOS37 and 38 to slot 222 or 223 (or whatever) and then I'd use SoftChip to load the game and it would work great. Well with this new red Wii Softchip is out since the new Wiis won't read DVD-Rs - hence you must use a USB loader.

SO... I've tried using Hermes v4, v5, and v5.1 to make a dizzying array of attempts to put a CIOS into slot 222 or 223 that will let the CFG USB loader run the game - but each and every time when you try to run the game it just sticks after it shows me the Base IOS. I've verified that there is no problem with the hermes installer, when I make a custom 222 or 223 they are getting built properly and put into their slot (222 or 223) properly. It's just like there is something with the CFG loader stopping it from working...

Am I doing something wrong? What does the mload and yal options mean when choosing CIOS222/223 in the CFG loader options?

I believe RB2 uses IOS37, and Beatles uses IOS56. If you didn't use those as the base IOS when you installed the cIOSs, it may be the cause of the instruments not working.

Also, if you're using Hermes' cIOS you may want to check out uLoader, which was also developed by Hermes and can utilize an emulated NAND if you plan on getting a lot of DLC in the future. You'll have to convert the game to .ciso (not to be confused with cIOS), but it's easy with WiiBackupManager, which I'm assuming you're familiar with

Did you get the version of CFG made for cIOS222? I'm not sure if that just changes the default cIOS used or what, but it's worth a shot?

I can't even find a version of Hermes that allows the use of IOS56 as a base. I've tried v4, v5, and v5.1 which is the newest as far as I know...

Yup, quite familliar with WiiBackupManager... uLoader may be an option if all else fails. I'm not schooled in the whole emulated NAND thing... sounds cool though.

Yup, at this point I've tried using the mload-222 version, and I've even tried adding manual ios arguments to the CFG USB loader's meta.xml - if I try and use anything other than IOS249 to start the loader it just freezes at the big blue 'CFG"' splash screen with the DVD slot light all lit up.

I wonder if Nintento put some other gremlin in the new red Wii to make our lives even more miserable...

Oh my god, I feel like such a retard...

Turns out everything works just fine using the IOS249 that ModMii sets up (which is Waninkoko's v20 I think)... So why couldn't I get the instruments to work? I was using the wrong damned dongle...

Apparently just because the RB2 dongle has a bass and guitar symbol on it doesn't mean it will work with just any guitar... (We have two guitars) I went and fetched the other dongle and plugged it in and bammo... working with CFG Loader and I didn't even have to tell it to use another IOS like 222/223 - it works with Waninkoko's v20 apparently!
