Gaming how do i password protect my folders?

im in vista and i want to password protect a folder. but i dont want to hide it just password protect it? any help

Hmm, I'm not sure about folders, but You could zip it and put a password on it

u need to use a 3rd party program, it isn't supported in windows natively

what works for me, for most things, is just hiding the folder. Now it's pretty easy for ppl to find a hidden folder, which is why I also mark it as a system folder, so that even if someone has their settings set to view hidden folders, they will not be able to see it. Of course if they also choose to view "protected operating system files" they will still be able to see your folder, but that option isn't recommended and I've never once seen anyone other than myself use it.

so now the code, its real easy, open up a cmd window and type

Code:

attrib +s +h +r "new folder"

where "s" marks it as a system file, "h" as a hidden file and "r" as read only
and "new folder" is the name (or path) of the folder you want to hide

to unhide the folder, use the same code except change all the plus signs (+) to minus signs (-)
or, to view the folder without unhiding it, open up any windows explorer window, go to tools-->options-->"view" tab--> uncheck "hide protected operating system files" and also select "Show hidden files and folders"

It is mainly for disk encryption, but it can also create a folder as a virtual encrypted disk.

Don't forget your password, it is virtually uncrackable unless you are the NSA.

Anyways, As others posters have said, try putting it into a .rar and then give it a password that way?

It depends who you want to protect it from:

If you want to protect it from another user on the PC who doesn't have access to an administrator password:
1) Right-click the folder
2) Click 'Properties'
3) Click on the 'Security' tab
4) Click 'Edit...'
5) Click on the account you want to protect the folder from
6) Under 'Permissions for tick every 'Deny' check box - NOTE: It does not matter if you cannot check the 'Special Permissions' box
7) Click 'Apply'
8) If a Windows Security windows pops up, click 'Yes'
9) Click OK, then OK again

Now if they want to access the folder from the account you applied the settings to they will have to type in an administrator's password. This technique also works on your own account.

If you want to protect it from anyone else you will need some 3rd party software, or, like others have said, zipping it up might work but i cannot test that right now.
