So the Wii has access to the ethernet port in GC mode? is there anyway to have it intercept dvd calls through the ethernet port? then you might be able to use your hdd via ethernet? Just an Idea. You can get adapter here http://www.dhgate.com/1000pcs-lot-usb-a-fe...ae635f5b5f.html[/url]

It definetly wouldn't be as cool as just having it run USB off HDD with everything else, but maybe it could lead the way to run a virtual mem1 or arm or whatever your cant access virtually, perhaps on a USB Flash drive or sd card hooked up to Ethernet port. or even fool the GCmode into thinking it is reading the Ethernet port but it is really reading usb?

Feel free to flame my novice ideas.

Nice, but its a little bit expensive for me because i only need 1 and not 1000 ;-)

What ethernet port are you talking about, the wii doesn't have one...

yeah I'm an Rtard I thought my GC had one just figured the wii did never really looked. but if GC did have Lan then maybe theres a way to Make the old GC hardware lan driver read USB, I'm grasping at straws.

Probably, SD-Boot and its variants with PPC-only code is the only way to get GC games to load off non-DVD source.
On Wii it can be expanded by some preloader, which will copy selected GC ISO in wii mode from USB to SD-Gecko and then run SD-Boot to play game. Not sure how long time will be required for USB->SD-Gecko copy, but at least it will work and only 2GB SD card will be required.

besides that Wii have no ethernet port, this adapter is nothing but just direct wiring between ethernet and USB connectors. There is no any conversion circuit inside

The upcoming Homebrew HDD adapter will let you connect a HDD with a memcard slot and launch GC ISOs with an modified SD-Boot 0.3 or with the upcoming SD-Boot 1.0 since emukidid said, he will include support for the HDD adapter in the next SD-Boot version.

Yes he does.

(this concludes my work on DIOS-MIOS)

Also look at crediars last comment here: http://code.google.com/p/dios-mios/wiki/Ga...mpatibilityList

Ok he said that, but i think only because he cant solve the problem yet. But i think he will continue if the problem is solved and there are not other unsolvable problems. But dont know.

DIOS-MIOS is officially DEAD.

QUOTE
i just saw, that no installed mios is required any longer for dios mios, so did you write kind of your own version?

< crediar > dios mios is dead :O

but the latest version does not need a mios anymore?
right

so your statement about GC USB Loading was the official end of DIOS MIOS?

< crediar > yes

HDD adapter should cost much higher than SD-Gecko. SD-Gecko is just wires between memcard slot and SD card. No any electronic component used. That's why SD-Gecko is very cheap.
But HDD adapter (it's not clear if it will be IDE, SATA or just USB Host) is definitely will have chips inside. I think, it will be at least $30.

Although it will improve GC compatibility due to pure PPC code used, it won't support audio-streaming as well.
And by the way, it will use patches to access HDD/SD... I saw SD-Boot site and looks like compatibility of current SD-Boot is pretty bad.
May be SD-Boot 1.0 will bring much better compatibility... Always "will do", not "doing now"...

Today devs like to give many promises and wonderful advertisements...

Well the HDD adapter will be cheaper, plug and play and unlike WODE you have not to open your Wii (which is btw, the main reason I wont get WODE).

Crediar's way of patching the dvd functions in DIOS-MIOS is much more complicated than i thought. But if SD-Boots code for this is similar to the one used in NeoGamma, then it should be easy to get NeoGamma's compatiblity on SD-Boot. Heck, if i had sd gecko code, i might be even able to do that myself.

The problem is that sd gecko is really slow, don't know if there will be compatiblity issues because of this. I guess the 2 Baten Kaitos games are out of question.

The speed of SDgecko depends on the reading speed of the SD Card and the max data flow speed of the memory card slot. Anyone knows the max data flow speed of the memory card slot?

What about not turning mem2 into aram but instead patching any code that uses aram access to use mem2 directly instead?

Speed depends on many factors. With specialized SD card controller, speed would be close to SD card's supported speed. But as far as i know, SD-Gecko use "software emulator" of SD card controller. It means u have to set 1/0 on signals through port's write/read. This is very very slow.

I somehow knew this would happen, haha. Anyway whatever maybe we'll see something in the future or whatever. GC games are cool and all but I'm lucky enough to be able to play as many wii games and NES, SNES, etc as I want so I think I can live. Haha

It's been a long thirty pages...I'm a bit confused. Let me see if I can summarize...

DIOS-MIOS has indeed been released, but in a state where it can hardly any retail games. It's also apparently been released open-source, with crediar discontinuing his work, deeming it as impossible due to MEM2 issues.

There has been a glimmer of light, however, in the form of another loader, an SD loader, being developed.

Is this correct?

@K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.

Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.
