I modded my Wii a really long time ago, and don;t remember exactly what I did, but I remember checking a box that made my console unable to do system updates. How can I undo this so I can update it and install the Netflix application?

Also, If I update my console, will my Wii get bricked? I have been out of the modding scene for quite a while, so if someone can tell me how I can find out what firmware and IOS I am running, I could tell you guys for further help.

You guys are always very helpful, and I appreciate it.

You probably have preloader (or priiloader) installed.
So turn on your wii and keep holding the reset button. One of the options there should have the "block online updates" set as enabled. So just disable it..

Don't update through nintendo, you will update to 4.3, which removes bannerbomb, among other things.
About the blocking updates, you probably have pre/priiloader installed on you wii. Turn the wii on while holding reset, see if the preloader menu comes up, if it does, than just go in to the hacks and allow updates

Note:If all you want to do is use the shop channel, use modmii to download the latest version of the shop channel, and install it on your wii. It will now work with whatever system menu you have

If you still want to update your wii, I would reccomend using modmii to update to 4.2 and rehack it. Unless of course you don't want your wii hacked anymore, in which case you can just update through nintendo

Also, to check what "firmware" (System Menu) you are on go in to the wii settings, and in the top right it should say _._U (the blanks obviously being the numbers indicating the version, and the U indicating the wiis region)

Wow! So many responses already! Back when I modded my Wii, I had to wait like 24 hours for a response.. I wasn't even planning on checking back till tomorrow morning, but I thought what the hell..

Well you guys were exactly right. It was PriiLoader blocking the updates.

My Wii's firmware is 4.2U. All I want is the new Netflix app. How can I get this without altering my mod/firmware? I have it running very smoothly now, and don't particularly want to have to re-mod it.

Can anyone offer any advice?

EDIT: Like person66 said, I think I should just use ModMii to update my Shop Channel without doing a whole system update.. How can I do this? I modded my Wii a long time ago with the Twilight Princess hack

It looks much simpler than the old methods. I just don't know what I need.

Ahh... that. Seen that on commercials sometimes.

Though I have no need for it. Besides my parents already have a Yellow Box that they use to watch Chinese television. It eats up the 120gb thing per month thing so quickly (even my web surfing never reaches that high!)! X_X

So yeah no need for it sadly. Anyway, have fun when you finally get Netflix!

You can either use modmii (i think), or WiiSCU to update just the shop channel

EDIT: there is also DOP-Shop, which is an app you run on your wii which updates the shop channel (requires internet connection)

The link to download ModMii is broken.. I watched the video tutorial, and it looks as if you HAVE to change the firmware.. All I want to do it update my shop channel so I can install the Netflix app, and leave everything else the way it is.

What would be the best way to do this?

I downloaded WiiSCU from another source, and booted it up in the HBC. The previous one I tried gave me the option of what version of the Shop Channel to install (.19, .20 all the way up to .25), whereas the new download I tried only gave the option of Yes or No. I selected Yes and let it install (it actually looked like it was installing), but after it finished, I started up the Shop Channel and it said it needed to be updated.

Wtf is wrong with these apps not working?

If you want to acess the shop channel you need to to Install the updated IOS 56 from NUS or DOP Shop .

For the latest Shop Channel (v20), you need to update your IOS56 to the latest version, which you can obtain using ModMii. Install the IOS56 WAD with a WAD installer, and you'll be able to run the Shop Channel.
